Yesterday on YouTube, I watched the Beatles' second appearance on the old Ed Sullivan variety show from, I think, August of 1965. They did two sets of 3 songs each, looking and sounding pretty spiff. No lip-syncing or back-up musicians. Other guests included Soupy Sales, comedians Allen and Rossi, a magician and surprisingly, British chanteuse, Cilla Black. She had a couple of hits on the US charts back then, but both of her numbers on this show were standards.

In your estimation, how do the Rascals stack up against the Beau Brummels, a band I greatly admired? Or the Lovin' Spoonful? All three of these bands had a super-strong lead vocalist, but were the other players as skilled?

	7:18am dday: @squints: partial to The Rascals as I have family connections to one of them. Hometown Garfield,NJ (Bergen County). I just read both Felix's & Gene's books. Both interesting. If you view the Mickey's Monkey/Love light vid from Ed Sullivan that's wild. The show ended 3 minutes early & Ed had them come out & vamp for time. They are the only band to ever be in that position & they killed it. I don't usually do "nostalgia" tours but I will be seeing Gene & Felix in NJ in Nov. simply because when I was really into them, I was too young (7 or 8) to go to their shows.

The record industry had been trying to decide which of several different methods of stereo reproduction to adopt. Sidney, prematurely released pressings from a few test masters cut for him by Westrex that were meant for evaluation. There was no equipment to play them on but it forced other record companies to follow his lead and equipment to play them with was soon available. It provided bragging rights for many years

One cabinet had a turntable & tuner, with a 18" speaker below them & the other cabinet the size of a Leslie had only a big 18" speaker in it.

Yesterday on YouTube, I watched the Beatles' second appearance on the old Ed Sullivan variety show from, I think, August of 1965. They did two sets of 3 songs each, looking and sounding pretty spiff. No lip-syncing or back-up musicians. Other guests included Soupy Sales, comedians Allen and Rossi, a magician and surprisingly, British chanteuse, Cilla Black. She had a couple of hits on the US charts back then, but both of her numbers on this show were standards.

If you view the Mickey's Monkey/Love light vid from Ed Sullivan that's wild. The show ended 3 minutes early & Ed had them come out & vamp for time. They are the only band to ever be in that position & they killed it. I don't usually do "nostalgia" tours but I will be seeing Gene & Felix in NJ in Nov. simply because when I was really into them, I was too young (7 or 8) to go to their shows.

The record industry had been trying to decide which of several different methods of stereo reproduction to adopt. Sidney, prematurely released pressings from a few test masters cut for him by Westrex that were meant for evaluation. There was no equipment to play them on but it forced other record companies to follow his lead and equipment to play them with was soon available. It provided bragging rights for many years
