Eternity's Children should've been bigger. Perhaps they would've had high charting hits?

Erica, I love "Wait & See" by them too.

WLSClark:

Erica, Starbuck was good in 70's with Bruce as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Funky16Corners:

I think with a lot of this stuff, it was just a case of a very crowded market with limited slots on the radio. So much great music that is also very obscure
  🥁 3:18pm
WLSClark:

This is a nice version that Curt also tried with Sagittarius, of course.
  3:18pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm

@WLSClark - I looked it up. I was surprised to see that Another Time went Top 40, and even Top 10 in a bunch of regional markets!

Funky (is that Larry?), yeah we got the promo DJ copy and it went top 10 on MY personal chart then too, I think. I was so lucky to get all those DJ 45s as they came out then.

Sure would be nice if these political phone calls wouldn't keep calling all the time. I dont answer, but it's a real pain.
  🥁 3:46pm
WLSClark:

Henry, and Columbia had so much talent that people could bounce off of like Melcher, Johnston, Curt and many others.
  🥁 3:46pm
WLSClark:

Take my hand is just a GREAT song and one of my fave bands is Montanas who just tear it up with this song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Funky16Corners:

Considering who was hanging around some of these records couldn't help but be good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Ooh! I've never heard the Montanas version!
  🥁 3:48pm
WLSClark:

Larry, you HAVE to listen to their verson--really cool abrupt ending too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Funky16Corners:

I'll look for it. I have a couple of Montanas 45s, but not that one. It's cool that they were getting all of that West Coast material (like That's When Happiness Began)
  🥁 3:49pm
WLSClark:

I just saw Bruce Arnold, the TERRIFIC voice and writer behind Orpheus has died. What a sound they had.
  🥁 3:50pm
WLSClark:

Harry, they did Moby Grape "Omaha" and "Hey Grandma" on BBC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm

Oh that's awful. I love Orpheus!

IT's wild to me that this is a Jonathan Moore 45 but the main voice on both sides is Curt's
Avatar 3:55pm

Sounded more Australian than British, that's for sure.

WLSClark:

Harry, me too!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Funky16Corners:

@Danny - Something Young made one other 45 under the name Summer Snow
  🥁 4:05pm
WLSClark:

There's a video of the Collage guesting on Bandstand that is kinda funny. Dick asks the group about how they formed and it was a bit as if they just picked up people on the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Little Danny:

thanks larry :)

Hi Larry, drummer streamers. Have spent a few minutes reading the comments. Looks like y'all enjoying this Boettcher episode of Testify.
  🥁 4:08pm
WLSClark:

Hi WR!!
  🥁 4:11pm
WLSClark:

Curt sure threw a lot of band names at the wall to see what stuck, I guess. As he says, "The truth is Not real"!!
  🥁 4:14pm
WLSClark:

I like Yes to You on Columbia, but not sure if Curt did that 45 or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
Funky16Corners:

@Clark - It's the flipside of this record. Up next
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Little Danny:

gorgeous sound, as does this side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Funky16Corners:

Don't know anything about Jacobson or Tansley...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Mike Sin:

So much '60s music has been codified retroactively by compilers and historians... I feel the "Sunshine Pop" subgenre was created just to sum up Boettcher!
  🥁 4:24pm
WLSClark:

Mike, haha. Could be! Never heard the term until 90's I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Candy-O!
  🥁 4:27pm
WLSClark:

Hi Candy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Funky16Corners:

@Mike - I agree that the classification is a post hoc one, like Northern Soul, but like that sound, it definitely existed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Candy-O'67:

Hey Clark!
  🥁 4:28pm
WLSClark:

Sunshine Pop sounds like that, but Norther Soul and Beach Music terms I still have no idea really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Little Danny:

my fave boettcher production :)
Avatar 4:29pm
Erica:

Here's a groovy number.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Mike Sin:

@Larry -- I agree, but most of the terms codifying subgenres can be traced to a certain sound. "Freakbeat," for example, includes, say, Shel Talmy, but it's not a distinct direct line right to him. With "Sunshine Pop" I feel it's almost an archer's arrow right to Boettcher! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Andrew in Toronto:

Great tunes!
Thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Andrew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Funky16Corners:

@Mike - The thing is (for me, anyway) is that I wouldn't say that Boettcher was influential except in a very small circle of musicians. The Mamas and Papas were a bigger overall influence on what we came to call Sunshine Pop. There were pockets of the sound all over the map. It tends toward the "square" end of things, but that's one of the things that adds to its charm. It's a lot of unhip people attempting to sound hip.
  🥁 4:39pm
WLSClark:

Larry, good point. I love the Montanas, but feel like most only like "Thats When happiness Begins" and dont care for their other great stuff.
