Hi TDK60\\//
  10:10pm
Pie:

Have you ever had an experience where you experience an emotionally draining event and then a random thing pops in your head and you have MAYBE heard this idea (or in my case name a person) like a once (if that) but have no concrete clue about who or what the idea or person is and then your forget and can’t seem to remember and that idea becomes like the beacon for emotional stability?

My compromise to this “hive mind” conundrum is to focus like a sea sponge on stuff like learning the intro to this show.

Ps - hey (a colloquial horse must have been here) Paul Whiteman is still the king of Jazz.

I'm contemplating what Sam might mean by "seeing" us.

Is it anything like the old adage, seen but not heard.

Dean?

Yes...?

Dean, continue your multi-sensory immersion! Don't mind us.

_Ike_:

I misread the beginning of Pie's comment as, "Have you ever experienced an emotionally draining pie?" for a second there, and I was like, "No, pie is always emotionally fulfilling." Then I realized... no, wait. That's not what it says.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Sam Segal:

WR, I "see" you in that I recognize the unique beauty of your spirit...that's all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Sam Segal:

@Ike, I could see it being emotionally draining to bake a pie.
  10:19pm
Dean:

This, I mean: https://www.discogs.com/master/1582076-Chopin-Pavel-Kolesnikov-Mazurkas

I'm also making dinner, which distracts me from WFMU and Chopin.

Plus, come to think of it, I had a really bad store-brand supermarket pie once and it was emotionally draining -- or at least deeply unfulfilling.

Good evening. Any idea what that Atari game might be?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Sam Segal:

What's for dinner, Dean? Hopefully not an emotionally draining pie.
  10:24pm
Dean:

My supermarket pie story: 3rd or 4th grade? My mom adds a desert to my lunch for school, a slice of cherry pie, shrink-wrapped with a sliver of cardboard supporting it. This was a rare occasion. My mom didn't usually give me dessert.

I bit in and savored the juicy cherries. Then I realized that I was eating paper. I'd consumed the cardboard, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Sam Segal:

Greetings, rw! I'll have to go up to 696 East 161st Street to see if they've still got the Atari console to find out.
  10:25pm
rw:

I'm heating up a turkey pot pie in the microwave right now. Might not be emotionally draining, but certainly won't help my soul.
  10:25pm

Dinner tonight: roast potatoes and a parsnip. A seared rib-eye steak. Salad or broccoli, depending on where we head.

DL in LA:

Hay there Horsers! That first tune of the set was by Norwegians, right? During it, I was like what is it about this sax solo that’s so unusual? I’ve heard enough Norwegians speak English that I realized there was something about the sax phrasing that was similar to how Norwegians speak. Wild.
  10:41pm
Pie:

I read an article about nuclear testing in space and it claimed this was how “carbon dating” was made possible..

Still can’t remember that guy - I’m thinking male, economical/political, and wrote a book. Both first and last name aren’t common - possibly European.

I really dig it too, zzz. This group Red Desert Orchestra features musicians from Europe and West Africa. Really cool fusion. Also, the technique from the alto soloist right now is just gorgeous, I think.

@doctorjazz - your meditation idea was right up the alley I should/hope I’ve been heading down.

why,Sam...because it's SHIT?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
coelacanth∅:

i think "soulless" can be added to that description
as well
  10:57pm

Sam touches on a good - transferable idea here - I used European loosely. He is definitely Americanized - maybe educated through some sort of metaphysical British isle.

Somehow I found out about him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
coelacanth∅:

i mentioned the awful saxophone playing that helps ruin Bruce Springsteen music on another comments board recently, but neglected to mention that i love *good* saxophone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm

Yeah, @coel, sometimes the groups I'm thinking of are trying so hard to hit these ecstatic "spiritual" highs that it all feels a bit contrived and soulless. But not Work Money Death!

The label name as appropriate, big on that echo and effects...
  11:04pm
Pie:

I thought the same thing @rw - and have had this happen multiple times - it’s amazing my survival gear has never been stolen - like the Bank parking lol, my apartment, etc - but the issue was the keys were in the ignition. During my turmoil on my way home today I was testing if my foot might have switched the manual lever. Didn’t seem too likely but most magical events when reconciled loose the wash that makes them often hard to speak about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
coelacanth∅:

i used to hang often in new agey situations with the corresponding hypocritical self-exalting pretend-spiritual people and heard PLENTY of spiritual mimicry.
  11:05pm

We are at such a loss for having reached the point where criticism of "who others might like" stifles our will to criticize that same person.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Sam Segal:

@doc, Scott Hirsch is also a sound designer for film, so he's got a great grasp on cool production techniques.
  11:07pm
Dean:

That doesn't quite read right...

I mean we're at a loss when we refrain from criticizing artists (etc.) because we fear consequences arising from those who "might like" those artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
doctorjazz:

Love the name of this group!
