Favoriting January 18, 2023: Yukihiro Takahashi (1952-2023)
Yukihiro Takahashi was best known in the United States for his work in Yellow Magic Orchestra and his subsequent solo career. But the prolific drummer and vocalist was involved in some two dozen outfits over the years, including sixties group sounds unit The Fingers and older brother Nobuyuki’s early seventies soft-rock band Buzz. This show will sample from all five-and-a-half decades of the late, great artist’s career.

I miss Fios -- I had it in New Joisey when I lived there. Expensive but reliable. Of course Verizon made an agreement w/NYC that they'd bring it to everyone in the city and got something out of that agreement, and then they screwed the city over and completely failed to fulfill their promise, and were never punished. Gah!

Interesting. In my youth, there were still a number of places in NJ where one could get Sicilian pizza. I used to like that, because it is 90% bread and wasn't as oily as most NY/NJ pizza is.

My favorite pizza in the world by several miles is a joint in unincorporated LA County near the OC County line, Pizzamani. Uncommonly thick, doughy crust and s-w-e-e-t sauce, but straight out of the oven it is a marvel to behold and consume.

Coela, was Cosimos in town when you were here? That's our favorite local pizza (the Grandma Pizza, which is a bit thicker crust, but not as much as a Sicilian slice, fresh mozzarella, sweet tomato sauce, basil). They also make a great pasta fagiole soup. If I'm not getting local pizza, Pat and Joe's on Staten Island make a great pie (thin crust, but it's really, really good).

We have in town a cooperative, Cheeseboard, renowned for its huge selection of cheeses (duh). They also serve one vegetarian pizza per day. It commands a line out the door. I'm mildly resistant to Berkeley snootiness. (This place is across the street from Chez Panisse.) But I gotta say that it's a damn fine pizza. California cuisine at its best.

I'd probably like chitlins. But then I consumed a huge platter of Rocky Mountain oysters once. Not that I'd ever order them again.

doc, it was called Sinapi's or something like that until last summer when the name changed to Mel's.
the slices are big (a 6-slice pie i guess) and more expensive but appropriate for the size. i forget the street it's on but it's a bit north of the new traffic circle, across from a large book store that's been vacant for at least 3-4 years.

yeah my sister's one dog constantly raids the garbage, eats any non-glossy paper (so, instruction manuals, paper money, boxes...), scans the floors constantly for dots and spots she hasn't seen before. will eat any paper tissue or paper towel, even if it has hardened construction cement on it. used sanitary pads, obviously a treat.
i tried, years ago to deter her with cayenne powder. it worked for a long time but now she'll eat that. she'll eat hot sauce, lemon, celery, olives, coffee if it has oatmilk in it.
i'm actually surprised she's lived this long.
