Barbara McNair  For Once in My Life   Favoriting From the Ed Sullivan TV Show (12/12/1965)  1965  Barbara recorded this song in October 1965, just months before this Ed Sullivan Show appearance. From: Wiki Barbara McNair's version of the song was recorded as early as October 1965,[7] and backed up by a symphony orchestra and produced by Frank Wilson. Some sources suggest that the song was originally written for McNair;[8] others that Gordy, hearing the song, insisted that she record it.[5] However, her version was not released until it appeared on her November 1966 album, Here I Am. It was also released as the B-side of her 1968 single, "Where Would I Be Without You".[9] In later years, McNair re-recorded the song with a faster tempo.

She was arrested because she accepted a delivery of drugs that her husband ordered. It destroyed her career. Her earnings were embezzled by the accountant behind est who juggled off-shore scam companies. McNair testified against the accountant and soon after her mobster husband was murdered. Quite a sad story. She worked the rest of her life trying to recoup her money and her career.

I highly recommend the movie Change of Habit starring Elvis Presley, Mary Tyler Moore, and Barbara McNair. It was Presley's last film and was nothing like his travelogue stuff. Nuns helping in the ghetto where Elvis is a doctor at a clinic.

I was just talking about how we often regret the poor choices of our youth. I regret not writing in my journal more regularly when I was young, and when I did, I never wrote anything that I would want to read now. What was I thinking? I should have done more reporting of what I did, who I met up with, where I went, stuff I bought and things like that. Stuff i really want to know, now.

Listener Robert:

I can't get over "Comme D'Habitude" now that I've heard it for the first time, because it's a riot now knowing "My Way" is on an entirely different subject and with an opposite mood. It wouldn't seem so stunning -- I know other examples where two different songs share a melody -- but for the fact that the music is so strident, accentuating the opposite emotions.
