Hi Sam and Horsers! Gonna hang til Morpheus calls. Jeez I wish I didn't have to get up at 5:30

Hi Sam and wranglers!
Ride that... Maverick(?) into the sunset
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Sam Segal:

Howdy, Zipper! 5:30 is pretty brutal, especially this time of the year, with the darkness at that hour and all.

Hello Sam and Equestrians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm

Hey, Chresti! Thanks for trotting on these cobblestones with us.

Happy Wednesday Evening, Doc!

Ye olde cobblestones! Are they still there?

Im a 6 o clock riser (assuming my pooch doesn't wake us earlier), has also cut into my real time horsin' around.

6:35 am riser on Thursday mornings myself.

On work days I get up @4:30
Last two weeks have been a rainy break because no tennis in ponds on the courts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm

4:30! My goodness. What time do you usually go to bed, Chresti?
  10:20pm

Good evening!

I tend to get up about three hours after Sam and chresti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
zzz:

hey SS and folks!
yeah these early
wake up times in DST are tough. one of the reasons permanent DST is a terrible idea. winter mornings will be absolutely brutal with like 8:30 sunrises
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Zipperhead7:

↳ chresti @10:12
Man, 4:30 is harsh. I'd feel like a coal miner, irrespective of job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Sam Segal:

Greetings, you lucky mid-morning riser, rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Sam Segal:

↳ zzz @10:21
Oh man...I hadn't even thought of that, zzz. Is there any chance they'll abandon this permanent DST idea? I haven't been following it closely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
zzz:

perma standard is the way to go— they have it backwards! idk. it passed in senate in a totally sneaky way but my understanding is that in house of reps they just don’t really care to deal with this issue now so probably bathe status quo will remain for the time being
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
chresti:

↳ Zipperhead7 @10:21
I leave early to avoid heavy traffic and taking 1 1/2 hr to get there. At 6 with less traffic it takes about 30-40 minutes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Zipperhead7:

↳ chresti @10:27
Yeah, that's why Ms. Zip leaves at 5:30 to drive 45 miles to the Bronx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

↳ Zipperhead7 @10:29
funny. this is what ms. zzz does leaving from the bronx at 6am to get to brooklyn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm

Man, you're both making my 50-60 minute subway commute from Brooklyn to Harlem look good by comparison.

  10:40pm
Dean:

I win. Back in the '80s I drove from the eastern edge of LA County to Culver City every day. I avoided the freeway, because even then it was unbearable. My commute averaged an hour both ways. In the evening I'd head up Sepulveda Blvd. to Loyola Marymount University to sit in the library to read until traffic cooled down. This was going on 40 years ago. Traffic is orders of magnitude worse there these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
zzz:

mines not as bad with a relatively shorter bus to train ride from bx to washington heights.

oh btw Sam you should check the frow show/jesse jarnow archive from last night for a truly demented avant/noise version of The Lizards (!!?!)

from 99-00, i commuted from Gainesville to downtown Jacksonville. My boss let me come in an hour late each day so my commute would only be 90 minutes (I'd stay an hour late).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

My commute from Central Joisey to Staten Island runs 45 minutes to an hour (depending on traffic) (when there's not traffic, it's a 32 minute drive, say Saturday morning)

Meanwhile … here in semi rural Vermont :
- the option to drop-out / turn-on / tune-in to WFMU and avoid dealing with any commuting situations whatsoever.

We had quite the influx of humanity after the first year of the pandemic.
Out of the blue … all of a sudden, we had to wait 3-4 weeks for a Subaru car appointment ! (Usually get an appointment a week out).
Dealership couldn’t believe the influx of new out of state plates they were servicing !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

Did the Everly Brothers break through?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

Hahaha no, that Everly Brothers sample is part of this song.

Went out with the missus for our anniversary today, saw a Broadway show, Parade, was really good (intense, depressing, but engrossing). Nothing like singing while lynching!
  11:04pm

The site of Jarrett's recording is his home studio. He's tinkering, exploring, inventing... Can't wait to hear the recorder, if there is one on this track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm

Happy anniversary, Doc! I hope there weren't any neo-Nazis protesting out in front of theater for this performance.

haha still hearing the “singing” along

It was peaceful, many alte-kocker (old fart) Jewish folks around (not exclusively, though).
  11:08pm

Jarrett has worked with Michaela Petri, a virtuoso recorder player, as accompanist on harpsichord, and his recitals of Baroque keyboard music, which he plays on piano but could have been harpsichord, are ravishing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm

looks like sam is giving us our elderly supplements, or a jarrett all set....

/can't find the door this time, can someone shoo me out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
doctorjazz:

Not quite sure what a clavicord is...it sounds a bit like a harpsichords (but not quite).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Sam Segal:

I believe the clavichord is smaller than a harpsichord. Jarrett is actually playing two clavichords at once on that album.
  11:14pm
ERIK / VermonT:

@SS : Well, it’s not simple to figure / determine.
I believe it’s a mix. It’s suggested Many seemed to be utilizing their “secondary vacation homes” as full time. But I still see way more Mass/NY/CT license plates than before. Also I believe businesses have adjusted.
Yet, even in the very popular Dartmouth region, we are still coping with so many that dropped out of retail, service industries, and ‘the great resignation’.
So many stores have truncated hours or functioning with skeleton crews. Many still hanging on to working remotely.
Meanwhile… some of us take solace & revel in all aspects of WFMU.
  11:15pm

For a superior introduction to the varieties of Baroque keyboard instruments, not to mention to transcendent music and music-making, check out Benjamin Alard's series of the complete JS Bach keyboard works on Harmonia Mundi.
