Was reading some accounts of Tommy Shannon who was Johnny's bass player and he was saying back in the day when Johnny was playing Texas bars he would always get in fights. Pretty amazing for a guy with such a slim build. Guess it's all in the mind !!

Saw Plant and Krauss at the first weekend of JazzFest a few days ago. Was interesting how he took Led Zep material and re-arranged it as rootsy. For ex., "Rock and Roll" as slowed down roots/country, not commercial AOR from the early 70s. "The Battle of Evermore," with the prominent mandolin, didn't require huge changes in arrangement to be rootsy.

I had the pleasure of spending a few fine hours at Junior's juke joint near Holly Springs, Mississippi. The man hisself was out of town, alas.

Highly recommend everyone set aside a block of time for Kimbrough. Be sure to account for any place you might fall and/or pass out.

It's not exactly Soup Dragons or Rolling Stones, as comparisons go...

It was totally worthwhile, and only one of six acts we saw that day (Friday). Yeah, he sounded good enough -- was pretty hard on himself and his voice back in the day, I reckon. But who of us is exactly what we were 40-50 years ago haha. -- He's known for hanging around the Fest with the rest of us punters and seeing other acts when he plays here.

dday:

In the late 70's When James Cotton, Muddy Waters &, Johnny Winter were touring they used to stop at a place called TG's East in Greenwood Lake,NY.

I was hanging with two friends who were both ten years my senior (me being in HS at the time).

Well the boys used to go to one of my friends place in Ringwood for some after show hours imbibement. Heady times for sure.

there's no comparison. 2 different things. the question wasn't "who do you like better?" or "who came first?" or "which one have you seen?" or which one is more likely to have been an avid bicyclist?" ...
