The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm

↳ Dean @9:18
i once found a fully annotated copy of HB in a used bookstore. The owner had scrawled all kinds of horrible anti-semetic footnotes all through it. I sort of wanted to buy it for the kook factor but my wife was so horrified by the notion that I didn't. Plus, we were on a road trip, so didn't want to have a completely awkward ride.

Yeah, but those indicia of provenance are rare and invaluable, offense-factor aside.

↳ Rich in Washington @9:20
you'd think they would point out everything he wrote that turned out to be total BS, but then you'd run out of room in the first paragraph
  9:24pm
Dean:

Doing history is hard. It's not so easy simply to "point out everything" that's wrong.

Heh, I used to ride into LA most days on the bus with Terry Graham's ex-wife. He was drummer for Gun Club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Rich in Washington:

I can't believe I slept on this album until very recently. Dumb. It's super killer. I think I even prefer it to Fire Of Love, which is super inconsistent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
ultradamno:

I have to disagree. Fire Of Love is as perfect an album as Slash ever issued. Miami is good, but nowhere as close.

Androu B.:

Hi Rich! Wow, we're losing so many great talents now in such little time! Madame Turner's, however, was somewhat in the mail. Just saw recent foootage of her on one of the news channels (CNN) which sadly showed she didn't age well in recent years. But, regardless, her spirit never flailed. Long live the Acid Queen!
  9:28pm
Dean:

I doubt I'll ever hear a perfect album, but Tragicomedia's recital of excerpts from the Anna Magdalena Notebook comes mighty close.

My main gripe with FoL is purely the poor sound quality and mixing, but maybe it's the CD reissue I have. Some of the drums sound stupidly compressed to me. Not all songs, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
Rich in Washington:

I think a lot of stuff that got 'remastered' for CD in those earlish days suffered that fate, though. The Cramps stuff on IRS really got fucked up compared to my vinyl issues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm
ultradamno:

↳ Rich in Washington @9:30
I may have a CD of it, but the vinyl is what I mostly know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm

There was this stupid remastering thing with punk stuff to CD to make the drums really WOMP! It can make it totally suck.

Las Vegas Story and Mother Juno are really good too....Congo kind of needs to be there for me.

- I just re-watched Tommy abt 9 months ago. You are in for such retro treat ! Envious.
Hopefully on a largish flatscreen ?! Now there’s a movie that begs for a cinema experience. Not only great Tina Turner, ya gets *** Ann freakin Margaret *** with chocolate !

I haven't even visited my parents 30 times, and I grew up in that house... (since age 18, 28 times)...

Yeah, the combo of Ann writing in beans and chocolate and the sinister beauty of Tina sorta did funny things to my prepubescent mind when I first saw it on network TV as a wee lad.

I also need to see Russell's The Devils again. I think I have a bootleg of the European cut somewhere.

Erik/VermonT:

Indeed … ALL of ken Russell’s work (especially early-ish beg for largest screen’s possible!
Aaaahhh , seeing The Devils was so damn eye-opening & popping as a kid.

A (short) list of classic rock operas & other rock-related movies I'd personally like to see released to IMAX theaters (besides Tommy):

More
200 Motels
Quadrophenia
Pink Floyd's The Wall
Breaking Glass (Hazel O'Connor)
Times Square
URGH! A Music War

Times Square = ha ! Very under seen film. I’m guessing Y’all must’ve been born in the mid 60s ? Gotta look up breaking glass (don’t know it ?)
Would so love to see Quadrophenia on big screeen !

I think I still have Urgh! on VHS. I only have it because the on-demand DVD that the rights owner was selling had certain songs cut out for some reason, namely Splodgenessabounds cover of a Rolf Harris song.
