Yeah that block has been through a lot. Well before that structure, and the Gowanus / Prospect Expressways -- it used to be a coal yard, with assort coal yard-y structures

What sounds off, Coel?

thick layer of buzzy static coming and going

Was gonna say no, but then Bob went weird static-y and broken up for a moment, as did the start of this track.

...and Sam for a moment, too.
  10:11pm
headcleaner:

Rather more intriguing is the Triangle Three Sixteen Park on the northern side of the expressway - www.nycgovparks.org... ... which, according to the Sanborn map, used to be subdivided into private lots with various structures including a Wagon Shop and a Bakery -- and others now lost in the sands of time! Here's that Sanborn map: digitalcollections.nypl.org...

Yep, definitely some digital bzzzt bzzzt bzzzt coming and going...

i just listened to another stream for a a minute and it's fine.
the staticky, buzzy noise happened during both tracks you played Sam, not just Dylan.

I did just hear a minor scratchy come through on the stream. Confused as to the source of this issue, but I'm monitoring it.

sanborn maps were my bread and butter when I worked for the NYC DCP in the 2000s (although most of them were last revised in the late 90s by hand, sometimes over the older maps. But, even then they were scanned and geolocated).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Sam Segal:

↳ zzz @10:25
Glad the stream scratch didn't interrupt that one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
coelacanth∅:

does anyone here know of a good tea-free chai (which is an oxymoron, as much as "chai tea" is redundant, which it is)
?
...like maybe rooibos-based?
  10:35pm
headcleaner:

↳ coelacanth∅ @10:31
Well, Indian specialty stores (such as the best one in the known universe -- the Dual Specialty shop in the East Village) do sell the spice blends, which you can seep and strain however you like. However it will still be a double oxymoron because even without the tea leaves you're still making a "tea" out of the spice, are you not?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Sam Segal:

Think I figured out what was causing the issue. We should be scratch free...as long as me stating this doesn't jinx it.
  10:36pm
headcleaner:

↳ northguineahills @10:26
Yeah, Sanborn maps are catnip for map heads
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Sam Segal:

Okay, I guess that did jinx it. Oh well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm

Maybe the scratch will keep it down to a dull buzz. Thanks for bearing with me, folks.

true. and every time i say "herbal tea" i think how that's incorrect, as it is not tea!
but i've tried "herbal infusion" and invariably people say "what's that?", or " you mean like an extract?"

what about Kalystyan's on e 28th and Lex?
  10:50pm
headcleaner:

↳ Sam Segal @10:43
They do apparently - steps away from the Marcy Ave stop. BTW they've rebranded as Duals Natural (so as to have "natural" or "organic" in the name, like every other grocery store / bodega in recent years)
Avatar 10:50pm
Ike:

↳ coelacanth∅ @10:42
The really picky people call them "tisanes".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Sam Segal:

↳ headcleaner @10:50
Hahaha yes, they can never have enough "Naturals" and "Organics"! I've noticed that too.
  10:54pm
headcleaner:

Kalystyan's is great. I almost always pick something up when I'm passing by. I just tend to pass by Dual Specialty much more often. Plus they have very high coverage of stuff I use a lot, and I think their prices are probably better, also.

well, the really picky people might alternately call them herbal infusions, as neither term is more correct than the other.
and then the not really picky people might call them those names as well.

"aromatics" seems much too general, and vague. i guess that's a local slang -like here we lump items from 3 different categories into "nuts".
