Avatar 3:39pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Song: "Billion Dollar Babies" by "Alice Cooper"
I remember there was a quote from Bob Dylan about how Alice Cooper's songwriting was underrated. I feel Cooper's theatrics and showmanship seemed to overshadow his songwriting which was quite conceptual and well crafted. I also read somewhere that Joey Ramone's musical inspiration for the Ramones' song "I Don't Care" was actually the chord progression on Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen". That kind of stuff does not get talked about often.

Don is great at presenting something one knows in a different framework so that we reconsider the bands. I had a chip on my shoulder about Abba and never thought I'd get into them again. Heard them on this show and thought about them differently. I"m still not obsessed with them like I was at 8-10 but I do like them and had to acknowledge to myself why I had stopped liking them.
And OMG I had a big personal thing happen when I reconsidered April Wine. It was weird.

I agree, Debbie. This show made me start appreciating bubblegum pop acts like Bay City Rollers etc. which I did not like previously. The show also makes one see the connection between bubblegum pop and glam/punk/indie rock more clearly.

It's a way to make spontaneous kid style fun. LIke doing the hokey pokey. I tried to do the Magilla after hearing a song about Magilla Gorilla on Bubblegum OD. I couldn't figure it out. The instructions are on the back of the record too. I think it is best suited for the cartoon characters. They can drag their knuckles on the ground while still looking cool and dancing. Not so easy for an older stiff woman.
