Can’t take it in as our cat is violently opposed to sharing her space, so for now we are just feeding it and trying to get it to trust us enough to get close. And the "re" part of "recipe" doesn't signify repetition; it means something along the lines of reversing an action or process (per OED). So, when one takes a leek for a recipe, one is effectively taking it back (from where it was temporarily stored?) to prepare it per the recipe instructions.
