Most likely a set leading down to the pier or water's edge. My neighbor across the way had two floating piers on his bulkhead. Next door neighbor had a high water mark about a foot from the top of his deck box, the bottom of which is typically 2-3 ft above the mean high tide. boats were lifted off their lifts. Crazy for the winter since our tides are normally a foot+ lower.

ha, absolutely! My cousin was one of those who had his boat float off his lift -- fortunately a neighbor corralled it for him. I'm seeing a shrink-wrapped jet ski by the reeds across the way, not sure if someone anchored it there or if it's lost.

Oh man, every time I hear about low German I flashback to my first high school German teacher, who quite derisively declared that he could clearly tell I was brought up by Low German speakers. My parents, my dad especially class proud, urk, set up a meeting with him, including him. I think he got to say hello, and then it was two very angry German Canadians tearing him up for not even knowing the difference, and how could he even teach German not knowing the difference. Later my mom explained my dad was classist, and that was not a good way to be.

↳ Song: "Noyabr v okno" by "Adaptatsiya"
In a big country with an empty bag
Sneaking in at night, hiding during the day.
By woods and ravines, by roundabout ways,
Bald in the land - towards the Sunny days.
The river will not become shallow, the coal will not burn down.
Some gave birth to children, others went to the East,
Some were broken and bent, others were whipped.
The sky laughed excitedly - we became people.
And I'm ashamed of the shit that's coming
And if that's the price I'm not paying that tribute
November the window the autumn is knocking paranoia
You try to leave a trail in the wet sand.
Today it is not easy to sing, and tomorrow it will be ... so.
Bury all the victories, dig up the shaky fear,
Spread your wings frayed, make a ghostly stroke.
And encrypted tightly go out into the yard,
I will see your deeds and experience shame.

"For three decades, Nursultan Nazarbayev was seemingly everywhere in Kazakhstan, the country he ruled with an autocrat’s clenched fist. The capital’s airport was named after him, as were the city’s best university, a group of elite high schools throughout the country, well-endowed foundations and wide boulevards.
Now, the man who was everywhere, and who controlled everything, has all but vanished after violent protests this month that spread like wildfire and marked the country’s greatest political upheaval since it became independent after the collapse of the Soviet Union."
