Wow, fascinating, and yet the wiki, yes I know they're imperfect says:
The gospel and gospel blues musician Washington Phillips (1880–1954) has been said to have played a dolceola on his recordings, but his instrument was in fact called a "dulceola", and was a home-made fingered fretless zither.[1]

That must be why I thought it was an extinct instrument. The liner notes I read must have really exaggerated a bit - hahaha! If I remember right, the writer really played up the rarity and mystery of the Phillips' dulceola.

How does the distribution of money work for concerts at venues that have tiered pricing? Does the money beyond the basic ticket price go to meet the performer's guarantee? Is it gravy for the theater? Is it for gravy on the deli tray? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Recently, I paid $62 per ticket for YLT at the Fillmore that cost $87 (I think) per, including "service charge!” What service do they claim to provide? I had to download the Tktsheister app. One can only do that using the Gruegle brouser. No cash accepted for tickets, or at the venue. And, one must use a phone to enter. No paper tickets issued.

some sites i have to manually get around the firewall here to see. i was able to see the first paragraph (and memorize it) before the firewall, went, 'unt ah!', stopping me)

(i have permament wfmu workaround, so far).

I know this about your work, but the Smithsonian?! Too distracting to learn things, or not right thinking enough, or just cause? Weird, very weird.

i'm actually curious why it it's firewalled. i think it's probably from the auto-popups. will hit it when i get home.

i can either ask for permission to access sites, or do my own work arounds. i do the former for work stuff, for wfmu, i keep it close to the vest.

Thank you Olivia, excellent listening today, just like every week! Time for me to shuffle off the accu and onto the shuffleboard court. Okay, into dinner prep and cocktail hour. Cheers all, thanks for the company, it's been a treat.

“no printed ticket”...what a crock
Bethel Woods (on the original Woodstock site) went to that a year or so ago. So I buy tix online & they send a link.

I get to the venue 20 minutes from my house & the gate people can't access the link due to lousy phone signal.

So they send me to a long line at the box office where they...print a paper ticket.

Ridiculous

I'm so bummed that pwrmnstr and I missed Rosali at Union Pool when she was scheduled to play with Rose City Band, because Rose City band got covid.

At first she announced she'd be playing there anyway with a different band, but she ended up playing Music Hall of Williamsburg instead, and pwrmnstr and I sat at Union Pool until around 7:30pm and thought, "No one has wheeled a single amp in from the street. I don't think there's any show happening here tonight."

We barhopped all the way home to Kensington, meant we still had a wonderful and fun night, but also it was still a bummer.
