This is killer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
tim:

I’ve heard 2 different theories about how the Polka beat came into Mexican music. One is the ‘oompah’ rhythm that German immigrants brought with them to Mexico in the late 1800s. The other is the cross cultural pollination of sounds and instruments that occurred among musicians during early Worlds Fairs.
Avatar 10:44pm
Kris Holmes:

↳ tim @10:43
Definitely truth to the former, not sure about the latter
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

↳ tim @10:43
Lots of German immigrants in TX, too, in the Hil Country area. So, I thought that's where Tejano was born
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
tim:

↳ Candy-O'67 @10:46
Right! That makes a lot of sense with Tejano which is at least started regionally.

Your jazz 45s are a kick! Have been enjoying while cleaning up in the kitchen so didn't comment at the tunes were playing. That Chet Baker vocal, I think it was "But Not for Me", finally gets me to see why his singing got a lot of attention.
Avatar 11:59pm
