Cage took part in a Finnegans Wake reading group in Cologne in the 1950s in which also Ligeti too part, I am told. That was the heyday of Cologne as centre of the new music scene in western Europe. Still plenty of composers in Cologne, but centre of gravity has shifted to Berlin since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Cage took part in a Finnegans Wake reading group in Cologne in the 1950s in which also Ligeti too part, I am told. That was the heyday of Cologne as centre of the new music scene in western Europe. Still plenty of composers in Cologne, but centre of gravity has shifted to Berlin since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
