This little group is not too big, but there is a group up at Bard and other activity at SUNY New Paltz where the Gamelan Si Betty (formerly the late Lou Harrison's) is located. This is a Balinese Angklung stlye group, as opposed to the Sundanese one I was in before, which may start up again after being Covidized.

I also have a stash of not quite instant, but the Nescafe stuff from Greece for Greek frappes. My no-frills version is dump a few tablespoons of that into a jar, add ice, milk, and water, and shake shake SHAKE (the jar, not you, although feel free to dance while doing this). Not the same as the ones they make out near me with a proper shake blender but it's tummy-friendly and ultra-caffienated for the days that I need it...

i rarely consumed coffee for 1/2 my adult life. developed a taste for very strong irish tea with honey.
i always loved coffee, since i was ~8-9 years old. part of my reason for abstinence, aside from knowing that it's bad for you, especially your kidneys and urinary tract, was that i didn't want to consume dairy products, and after trying every non-dairy/non poison cream alternative i found none satisfying.
then i discovered oat milk.
now i drink the poison coffee almost daily.

i think that's the reason for the absurd results of studies that say alcoholic beverages are good for. they even said whiskey is good for you!
...and the truth is, in my opinion, that it can be; but not because there's ANYTHING in it that's good for your body, but because if you like whiskey (or getting a buzz in general) then it's something you enjoy -which is good for your mood which is good for your hormones.

conversely, depriving of something you really enjoy can be devastating to your immune system, as sadness, anger and depression are.

In general, studies of foods/drinks are notoriously difficult to do, simply because no one eats or drinks only one thing (which is not too say there can't be outside influences, like who's finding the study). If you're studying coffee, do people who find coffee tend to exercise more/less? Are they more/less likely to sleep enough/not enough? Do they tend to like beer/eggs? Is that true in general, or just your sample? It goes on and on...(so even honest studies can be all over the map)

Not in my/our time perhaps, but I anticipate the progress of science and nutrition research will arrive at detailed diet recommendations that are fully individualized for our genetics, metabolism, etc. For now, so many studies and effects remain blurred, hit and miss, too general to offer anything but sometimes slimly worthy substantiation.

Here's to hoping. Just got off a call with the genetic counselling team at MSKCC; they need to call me back because the MD I'm supposed to talk to got called out elsewhere. A tailored diet/supplements program that was actually proactive as opposed to reactive (as in X number sucks, eat/drink less A B and C).

I have no doubt. That doesn't mean weed is bad; it's just an indicator that now that doctors can FINALLY do research around it means that we're going to see more studies. Hard to believe it was ever up there along heroin and some other superbaddies. Me, my THC/CBD edibles are helping me cut back my drinking a lot.
