This one is pretty crackly, but the sound is not bad, otherwise. I did a little to help improve things, but you sort of have to get used to the crackling on this one.

You might have noticed up at the top of the show that our announcer said this was a "Mystery Playhouse" broadcast. An Armed Forces Network show, "Mystery Playhouse" re-ran shows for American Servicemen, between 1944 and 1946. For some of these shows that have a lot of missing episodes, these Armed Forces shows are ways that we have copies of these stories in the modern era.

I'm not familiar with all of the "League of Extraordinary Men" stories, but if the 1920's version of that group didn't have to actually contend with the riot that this "broadcast" is covering, then that is a missed opportunity.

The 1898 Martian Invasion "really happened” in that universe, so there was probably no fictionalization of it by either Wells or Welles. In fact, I doubt either of those men existed in that universe.
Harry Lime did however. According to “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier”, he survived his apparent death in the Vienna sewers to join the Ministry of Love (from Orwell’s “1984”) then became James Bond’s boss, “M”.

I didn't know there was a Dirk Gentley radio play, but I did hear the audiobook read by Simon Jones (who played Arthur Dent in the "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" radio and TV series).
