Favoriting June 26, 2024: Hi-Waisted Modernists #281 - Desert Solitude

On today's Hi-Waisted Modernists with DJ GeorgyGirl, I'm reading from Edward Abbey's "Desert Solitaire" (the artwork looked so pretty with the word solitude!) over library music from Ron Geesin. I'll be taking a short hiatus over the summer - set your diairies for Wednesday, September 4th when I'll be back and refreshed!

Mr Fab:

Looks quite essential!

It's still odd for me to hear the term "library music," since that's not what it's usually called in the entertainment industry. My wife works in post-production, and I often help her pick out music, but everyone calls it "production music." Or sometimes you hear the term "stock music," as in stock footage. yes, we use "production music libraries," but if I called it "library music," they might not know what I was talking about.
Lots of great stuff still being made! But on-line now, so alas, record buyers won't stumble across today's production sounds.

I don't think I've ever seen a desert like the picture: the big sand dunes, nothing growing. US deserts, at least in the Southwest, are pretty flat, and teeming with plant and animal life. The "trees" might be short, twisted alien-looking things, but there's a lot of them.

He tours the Netherlands often (he lives here) and tells his stories. He brings along some famous artefacts from his journes: a tiny vial in which a very tiny fish is stored. It was removed from his urethra when he was standing up to his bellybutton in the Amazon river, pissing. That type of fish swims in your urethra and sets itself stuck with tiny hooks. Ow!

Yeah. I kind of define Politics as where our Idealism collides with the Game of Power.
Generally @ 90°s - & @ full force.

Mr Fab:

I don't remember hearing stuff like this in 1970s soundtracks..

Sure would have been great to tune in to, say, "The Brady Bunch" or "The Love Boat" and hear this madness.

Another thing is that especially since 'Citizens United' (classic Orwellian doublespeak) - there are no limits on the Money that can be thrown @ Elections.
Consequently - Election Season has become ...All the damned Time.
