I always think about the time that the New Slits were playing Great Scott across the street from me but I had to go to work early the next morning for job training. I struggled with it but decided the adult thing to do would be to get a full rest. So I skipped it. It was the last time Ari Up came to Boston, she was diagnosed with cancer the next year and passed away in 2010. I think about that all the time.

I totally relate to buying tix for artists with a sense of urgency. I've known far too many people who have passed or gotten sick in the last few years and as a reaction I ended up buying too many tickets at once. The oldest musicians I have tix for are The Bevis Frond and Jonathan Richman. I've seen Jonathan a bunch of times, but never seen The Bevis Frond. First U.S. tour in over 20 years.

I went sick (under duress) to see Cowboy Junkies anniversary concert of Trinity Sessions at Trinity Church, and my fever was high enough that I have no memory of anything but standing in line to get in, and going to the car after it was over. I kick myself for going, should have given the ticket away.

I had tix for Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter at Carnegie Hall earlier this year and got a common cold. Non stop runny nose and a little cough, but that was enough to keep me home. I had actual tix, so I couldn't even transfer them online.

You guys are right about getting to see performers while they are still around. For instance I do not regret seeing Television back in 2005/London (Meltdown festival curated by Patti Smith) even if the show itself was not exactly a flawless performance.... Someone said if you saw Television on two different occasions you saw two different bands. True - I saw the Monday show and it was not probably their best ever as it were. I did not see the Tuesday one but I have heard the bootleg and it is simply majestic. Their new songs were just lovely - what a shame they were never properly recorded. (A fourth Television album was never finished, no vocals were recorded, let alone was it ever mixed of course)
