The current version of The Second Avenue Deli gives you a small chocolate egg cream at the end of the meal, which was very good (but the deli food was not so good). It's a mater of getting proportions exactly right (seltzer, milk, fox U-Bet chocolate syrup)

well, if you look to some supposed authority like discogs it's a shitshow! it's an illogical mess.

...i, and likely everyone else here who has over a few hundred records, developed my system over time, crossing bridges when i got to them.
i can always find what i'm looking for.

apparently they're acetate, not shellac

isn't acetate more fragile, though? i only own 1 or 2 acetates

I don't know the difference. I'm afraid to own old 78s. I'm afraid I'll start wearing tweed suits and wear funny hats everywhere.

I always have little pads of paper near me. Everywhere. In my bag. At my desk. At the kitchen table. On the fridge. Every time I hear music I like, I write it down then look for it later.

This veers into library science which is an evolving practice. There are references and guides for the standards but back to the practical side: if it isn't a library, it's personal.

i think i mentioned a few weeks ago when you asked about this that i also have "genre"/style cross-reference. (paper & pen) if you start it now you can possibly stay on top of it.

when i had a personal library, i would use ISBN, then when I want to change things up, i would reorganize them, i'd change to library of congress....

i generally don't concern myself with "genres", but i occasionally found myself really wanting to hear a particular song, but not remembering the artist or song title. having that cross-reference would greatly assist me to narrow it down, on occasion.

After hearing so much late 70s to early 80s E,W&F … I was so impressed when I finally watched Melvin Van Peebles “Sweet Sweetbacks Badassss Song”(1971) their soundtrack music to that film is stunning and atypical. I guess they jumped outta the gate with 3 releases in 1971!? 1st Feb.1971, Sweetbacks April ‘71, & 2nd Nov ‘71. = Whew😅.

WR, I just arrived home from a trip in Southern California. Folks, if we fly into Santa Ana's John Wayne airport, please check out Excel audio/records, which is about a block from the airport. I only discovered it this morning, and I knew I'd have no time today to visit before our departure. But I did make it to Blind Dog Hi Fi, which is an amazing stereo and record store in Huntington Beach.

Alex from Media, you're referring to Elaine Svenonius' 2000 book from MIT Press?
