I'm thinking about Golson's fingerprint as a composer. It's like they're set just beyond American songbook, like you could almost sing them, but not quite. They still have that flavor, but they're a level removed, not the juice, but its distillate.

Just read that Golson met Tadd Dameron in his first major gig with Bull Moose Jackson.

Thanks for a great show, Doug! Gotta run errands. BTW, Zipperdawg and I watched eight film adaptations of "Call of the Wild." No great ones, but the best was the 1997 Canadian version with Rutger Hauer. The recent one with Harrison Ford was a CGI horror, the worst of the lot. Zipperdawg liked "Old Yeller" but hated the ending.

Of course, "Out of the Past" is the name of a deeply atmospheric noir film from 1947.

HEY BIG NEWS EVERYONE:

I am now a steelworker! Well, I'm a member of the USW. Staff employees of the University of Pittsburgh just successfully voted to unionize!

I can't wait until I get one of those cool USW windbreakers!
