Last night I had a dream that I got bitten by a spider on my chest and when I woke up I had a big red welt on my chest right where I dreamt it bit me. Fast forward 2 hours and it's completely gone so it seems like I dreamt so hard I manifested a spider bite??

WR, it's a real mess, to put it mildly.
we has no power for 10 days, just got my internet back (17+ days), no water, and no real idea when water will be back. lots of destruction, loss of life, it's just a big mess right now

thanks Jan. the raccoon painted dumpster enclosure, unfortunately, has been washed away and now there's just a big pile of rubble there. the building it was next to is gonna have to be torn down.

thanks PK, the clean up and recovery is going to take a very, very long time

Sorry to hear. It has dropped off from the national headlines and I've not looked for local (there) media updates.

I made a donation via this Bandcamp benefit comp.
cardinalsatthewindow.bandcamp.com...

They wrote that 100% of proceeds are to be split evenly between Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, Rural Organizing and Resilience (ROAR), and BeLoved Asheville

I hope those organizations are effective at getting aid to those in need.

The infrastructure recovery (water systems and then roads) will be a long haul, though, hopefully not too long for the water systems.

The trauma to families and communities are not easy either. I have family and friends in New Orleans and got a taste of that from Katrina.

The trauma is real, as is the devastation, destruction, death. it's very bizarre for me, because i was/am only somewhat inconvenienced by service interruptions, yet less than a mile from my house is total chaos.
this is about a mile from my house:

Jan, i was wrong about the raccoon dumpster thing! i am amazed, but i looked in one of the pics i took a couple hours ago, and it looks to be intact, even though it was under probably 15 feet of water!

My poor friend in Asheville was at the Goner Fest when the floods hit, he's lucky because his apartment is still there, the cat was fine but it took a week to get home because of all the roads that were washed out. Then he was without power and water and having to use a litter box like a human cat

thanks Krys.

here are pics that i took (except for 2). they are mostly in the river arts district, and along riverside drive heading north out of town. these were taken days, and now over two weeks post storm, so a lot of clean up has already occurred. it's incredible the amount of destruction. it's also very sobering to know that there are towns not far from here that are in exponentially worse condition than this, as the river arts district was not heavily populated, mostly artist studios, tourist oriented restaurants/bars/studios, a greenway, and other businesses.
