Artist | Track | Album | Label | Year | Comments | Approx. start time |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Violin: Yehudi Menuhin Piano: Artur Balsam | Rimsky-Korsakov arr. Hartmann): Flight of the Bumble-bee | Vintage Menhuin, The Early Recordings | Orion | 1932 | 0:00:00 (Pop-up) | |
Asim Gorashi, oud and vocal | Traditional Sudanese: “ Assurai” | none | Video - Australian Broadcasting Corporation | 2014 | Music around the world #210: Sudan. The land of the whirling dervishes, and you can find good examples of that music on YouTube. But this guy Asim Gorashi, a Sufi from Sudan who whistles and plays the oud, just too good not to post as the representation from this culturally diverse country. The oud is not from Sudan but was borrowed decades ago as the main stringed instrument here. | 0:11:01 (Pop-up) |
Ismail Ali Hasan | Traditional Egyptian: “Dhikr” (“Remembrance”) | Music In The World Of Islam - vol. 1 The Human Voice | Tangent Records | 1976 | Music around the world #64: Egypt. While this country's culture has preserved their ancient music, almost all of it is fused with modern influences including rock & roll. But there is sufi music, and even that sometimes to me is ruined by modern influence. Here is a recording devoid of fusion. As pure as I could find to the ancient style. Pretty cool. | 0:18:10 (Pop-up) |
Unknown artist from Libya | Unknown Song | Unknown | none | From a Libyan playlist Music around the world #124: Libya. What does music do when expressing the sense of culture in people who live in one of the most politically chaotic, violent, manipulated and trashed places in this world? It expresses all the beauty, pain, love, sorrow and faith of its human muses. Culture through art is stronger than corrupt power. | 0:22:29 (Pop-up) | |
Hedi Jouini (Tunisia) | Tah Tel Yassmina | Le Chant Éternel (compilation) | N.B. Productions | ? | Music around the world #226: Tunisia. The ancient style of music is called malouf, which arrived in the 15th century with the migration of Andalusians into northern Africa. By the 20th century this style had become influenced by many cultures coming together in Tunisia. Today, Egyptian pop has taken over most people's interest, but the Tunisian government supports the preservation of malouf. Here is one of the great malouf musicians, Hedi Jouini. | 0:28:00 (Pop-up) |
Dahmane El Harrachi (Algeria) | Khabbi Serrek | 10 Années De Chansons » Volume 1 | Pathe Marconi France | ? | Music around the world #4: Algeria. Going around the world countries alphabetically which may be arbitrary since I believe in cultural diversity through music and don't believe in political boundaries. But it is a place to start. Of course most countries have more than one culture and more than one music. Anyone who wants to suggest a better musical example is very welcome. | 0:33:17 (Pop-up) |
Berber street musicians of Morocco | Traditional Moroccan Berber tunes | none | private video | 2010 | music around the world #148: Morocco. Great video of some Berbers. | 0:39:03 (Pop-up) |
Chwaibat (Western Sahara) | Traditional Saharawi: "Desert Song" | none | Chwaibat (Western Sahara) | Music around the world #243: Western Sahara. This country's sovereignty is disputed by Morocco which claims territorial ownership, but the local Saharawi tribes claim independence. The United Nations is divided in what they recognize as the truth. What a bunch of silliness all designed to exploit the natural resources of this beautiful place. Here is music of the Saharawi people. | 0:42:10 (Pop-up) | |
Khalifa Ould Eide & Dimi Mint Abba | Waidalal Waidalal (traditional Mauritanian Moorish) | Moorish Music from Mauritania | World Circuit | 1990 | Music around the world #138: Mauritania. Another exploited and poor country in Africa in which slavery is still practiced but where music really happens and expresses soul. There is a lot of Moorish influence here. The stringed instrument is called a tidinit. The language is Arabic or some dialect of it. | 0:48:49 (Pop-up) |
sibiri samake | Traditional Song of Mali | none | Sibiri Samaké (Mali) | Music around the world #134: Mali. Here is Sibiri Samake, great group devoted to the promotion of traditional music. | 0:55:05 (Pop-up) | |
Dan Lippel, guitar / composer | Utopian Prelude | Adjacence | New Focus Recordings | 2024 | 1:06:31 (Pop-up) | |
Peter Sellers | The Beatles: Help | Single | Parlophone | 1965 | 1:09:28 (Pop-up) | |
Oscar Pizzo, piano | Salvatore Sciarrino: Piano Sonata IV | Sciarrino: Live At Ars Musica 2000 | Cypres | 2000 | 1:12:11 (Pop-up) | |
Sviatoslav Richter, piano | Rachmaninoff: Prélude, Op. 23, No. 2 in B-Flat Major | Sviatoslav Richter Archives, Vol. 10: Carnegie Hall 1960 (Live) | Doremi | 1960 | 1:22:04 (Pop-up) | |
The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Herbert von Karajan | Johann Strauss II: The Blue Danube (reprise) | 2001: A Space Odyssey Soundtrack | MGM Records | 1968 | 1:24:38 (Pop-up) | |
Nic Raine, City Of Prague Philharmonic | Bernard Hermann: Psycho Suite | Les plus grands thèmes du cinéma, Vol. 2 | Silva France | 1996 | 1:32:40 (Pop-up) | |
U.S. Army Band & Chorus | Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture | video | live video | 2016 | 1:34:47 (Pop-up) | |
Melodica Men | Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture | none | Melodica Men | 2018 | 1:39:30 (Pop-up) | |
John Morris, MGM Orchestra | Mel Brooks: Springtime for Hitler | The Producers (film version) | MGM Records | 1967 | 1:42:07 (Pop-up) | |
Eartha Kitt | I Want to Be Evil | television performance | unpublished | 1962 | 1:45:14 (Pop-up) | |
Melanie (Safka) | What Have They Done To My Song, Ma | Candles In The Rain | Sony Music Entertainment Inc. | 1970 |

he was never the same after that but there were many variables; for instants, having just retired a few months earlier, so losing his entire social life. it didn't have to be that way. ultimately his undoing was his own choice, although by stupidity.
