Who are some of your favorite conductors, WR?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
WR:

First, my taste and knowledge is extremely dated. Have not kept up since I initially explored the European composer tradition in the early to mid 70s. Second, certain conductors for certain works. Third, I am tired and am not thinking clearly. So any answer I might make now would very likely be different on a different day and time.

Chord-less quartet is basically the only way I can imagine jingle bells being done in an interesting way. I have to listen to a lot of covers of it at work and it’s just not very rhythmically or harmonically interesting. Beats Rudolph though!

i've tried to imagine not liking the beatles and i cannot. the way i see it, anyone who enjoys rhythm & blues (*real* r&b, not the crap that's called that now), OR any somewhat less primitive rock & roll, OR progressive rock...would have to at least *like* the beatles.
if you like melody, harmony and rhythm - and somewhat more sophisticated arrangements, then you'd like the beatles. all this especially if you tend toward passionate, and technically flawless singing.
...this is how it seems to me.
...and i've met many people who dislike the beatles because they were essentially *told* to. usually teenage boys during the british invasion, angry about the attention suddenly diverted to englishmen.
... and those jealous because suddenly the simplistic and juvenile beach boys whom they adored were nudge out by the brits.
i get that.
but i've never been given any rational reason to dislike the beatles by anyone who otherwise likes very good music.
