This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hello Flash. Hope your time off was pleasant and productive.

And since this is an explorers room, I'm going to hype a music expedition to Morocco that I am planning to take next fall. It is organized by the same person who has been doing music expeditions to Cuba, I went on two of them.

The Morocco trip is going to try to give us a taste of the large variety of traditions that are still extant.

Anyone interested and I will forward an email with info to you.

You played all these on Explorers Room or you listened to them this year? I am surprised if you played this Junior Murvin that no one clicky starred it before tonight. So great!

i admit i didn't *get* toasting at first. i tried, too. bought a Prince Far I album; then an I Roy album...
i had LKJ albums and Mutabaruka albums but that was different.
then, c.1984(?) a friend gave me a 2nd generation cassette called "space skank" - not a straight up "mixtape" because the creator, whomever it was, had blended things together - and quite expertly.
...so on comes "words of my mouth/Lion a de winner". i'm blasting it in my car -for that bassline!
and Perry comes on with ferocious animal sounds!
i'm instantly converted, instantly open to U Roy and "dreader locks", etc. just like that.
