Tim no but I read about them and the girl who started it and we somehow got in touch! She is awesome! Gives me hope for the future!!! I do think adults could use a club like that too though- the problem is we are all so busy… I’m at least going to work on making one at my kids’ school. But I didn’t know Handy was so committed- I’m always looking for people who are passionate about pushing back against smart phones! (Meanwhile, I am using one… I guess the selfish motivation is I recognize the need for a support group for some of us to figure out how to extricate ourselves from these blasted things and the death grip they have on our lives!)

I'm right there with you, Rachel. I have a smart phone and try to do my best with keeping it simple. Recently I needed to get hearing aids. When the audiologist was making his recommendations about the kind I needed. He said it connects to a blue tooth app on my phone and went on and on about all the cool stuff blue tooth can do. After I bit I interrupted and said "I just want to hear other people talk again. I don't need all of that". The audiologist was "Oh sure. but with blue tooth you can....". Finally I interrupted again and basically said "Look, man, I'm not going to use blue tooth. I want to hear and not have it dependent on an app." Ai yai yai!!!

For me adding analog stuff helps- timers, radios, land lines, wristwatches, etc.- to replace anything to replace all the things we use the smart phones for with an old-school technology and have one less reason to pick them up. And yet I still get sucked in 😩 I tried a flip phone this year and it was kind of a disaster in terms of being in touch with people. Working on the 2.0 version for 2025… but it would be nice to be in touch with people doing the same battle to see what has been helpful for them; there seems to be very few of us!

i think mick's "problem" was that he thought too much of his input. he may have been right? the world may never know.

I love The Ideal Copy. If I'm not mistaken, the US tour for that was the first time I saw Wire. It was at the Cat Club in Manhattan and they made me feel like I was levitating. Incredible.

BTW, if you haven't read Stuart David's book, it's a very good chronicle of how a band gets together, written with a lot of charm, even if you don't care for Belle and Sebastian as a band. If you do like them like I do, then you will REALLY love it.

Most of this set reminds me of commuting to work in the 80’s before I owned a CD player. I had so many of these same albums on cassette and I would sit on the bus and Path and MTA and be content. Fantastic set.
