I never liked asparagus as a kid. Didn't find out until many years later that I loved it when it was roasted or cooked in parchment paper. Yum!

My parents pronounced it: as-pa-RA-goose.

The clarinet players were very cool, too. I don't recall anything about the flute players. I was briefly placed in a some sort of singing program, but I couldn't really carry a tune, so I moved on to band.
