	5:02pm J-Mar: my issue with Pandora is that after two tracks, I find that whatever it has chosen to play for me is way more boring than whatever our WFMU deejays would put on. also, the Kenny G station on Pandora sucks -- WFMU's Kenny G is way better.
	5:02pm annie: well, to be honest i have listened to pandora once in 6 months. i have so many internet radio options, it is a rare day when i have to resort to pandora.
	5:02pm Ike: (By the way, Irwin, when the robots come for you, just remember to tell them to divide something by zero. They'll stop and say, "Cannot calculate! Error! ERROR!" and then smoke will spew out and they'll explode. Snap! End of Pandora! See, who says you can't learn anything from old 1960s Dr. Who episodes?!)

	5:10pm Parq: I confess, I don't really know what Pandora is. FMU suits my radio needs just fine. When they're not doing something I dig, I've got my own music on CD and MP3, and sometimes I just like the silence. But whatever this Pandora is, if you dig it, mo'pwoah to ya.
	5:12pm Cecile: It's a randomizing computer music player you can customize with songs and artists. It can be fun. Now, I have a hot date with this Frankie Knuckles track, so later!

	5:21pm annie: pandora is based on the "genome" of the tune or song. if you click like, then they seek songs that are supposedly similar. sometimes they throw a very random thing in there, so you have to be sure to say no. otherwise they start to play shit that just doesn't fit your station style.
	5:22pm annie: they have classical to jazz to opera.. you can design your own station
	5:24pm Cecile: Yes, I hit the "no" and "pass" button a lot.
	5:25pm annie: there is one bugaboo about pandora that i don't like. you are not able to leave it going alone, otherwise they think you are not listening and time you out.

	5:27pm Ike: I just worry that some kids will listen to nothing BUT Pandora and last.fm etc., and in 40 years, human radio will be totally out of style or nearly defunct. And I find them predictable, and bad at segues. Plus, dystopian thought of the day: Governments could easily filter out political music on robot stations. Humans are not always so easily cowed. But I'm probably just paranoid.

'Cile, if you dig it, fine, but it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything. And Ike, just because you're paranoid . . . Love that Road Hog country music broadcast spoof. Haven't heard it in years.

	6:01pm Ike: Parq, to be fair, people clearly like it because it gives them a measure of control (ability to skip tracks, etc.) -- and I can appreciate the desire for control -- while still getting new suggestions and not having to go to ALL that HUGE trouble of discovering new music themselves. But I think that's a smidge lazy. And its suggestions are a SNORE to me.

	5:21pm annie: pandora is based on the "genome" of the tune or song. if you click like, then they seek songs that are supposedly similar. sometimes they throw a very random thing in there, so you have to be sure to say no. otherwise they start to play shit that just doesn't fit your station style.

	5:25pm annie: there is one bugaboo about pandora that i don't like. you are not able to leave it going alone, otherwise they think you are not listening and time you out.

But I'm probably just paranoid.

But I think that's a smidge lazy. And its suggestions are a SNORE to me.
