And a very good morning from London too, to you and all your listeners...worldwide!
6:08am
Joe:
Hey, Marco, welcome to you and the world! Glad you dig this track, Sue!
6:08am
Sue:
I'm in Seattle for now, but I will be relocating to London shortly. But I'll still be tuning in! As soon as I figure out the time difference :{
6:09am
Joe:
Be sure to say hello to Marco in the UK!
6:11am
Marco:
Whenever you want, Sue!
Show starts at 11 AM in the UK.
6:18am
Sue:
Thank you Marco! That's awesome of you
6:30am
Marco:
Classic Long Ryders track! Great choice, Joe!
Sid Griffin lives here in London and often plays solo or with his current combo, the Coalporters.
6:39am
Joe:
Sid Griffin also helps out with those great reissues of Gram Parsons and such, doesn't he?
6:43am
Marco:
Indeed he does. He also contributes reviews to "Mojo" magazine and is frequently questioned on all Byrds-related matters. I did bump into him in 2005 in the foyer of the theatre where Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen were playing.
6:46am
Joe:
That's cool! Nice guy?
6:49am
Marco:
Yes, very approachable and willing to share his vast knowledge. That's the way it should be!
6:52am
Joe:
That's great to hear. It's so nice when people you admire from afar turn out to be really friendly in person. I had that experience recently with Robyn Hitchcock.
6:59am
Marco:
Robyn is the single best British musician, bar none! Love his latest lp ("Goodnight Oslo"). He will be playing London at the beginning of September but I will be in my native Italy then and will miss him this time. Did catch him in 2008 though, with Peter Buck on stage!
I met Mick Jones of the Clash last month and he is one of the nicest, most down to earth people you could possibly want to meet.
7:07am
Joe:
I agree that Robyn is great. Nice to hear that Mick Jones is a good bloke, too! Joe Strummer was here at FMU a couple of years before his death and everyone who was here agrees that he was also a real gent.
7:10am
Marco:
Am sure he was. Wish I could shake his hand too.
7:12am
Joe:
Yeah, he was one I hated to see go.
7:24am
Marco:
Joe, I have noticed there is an exhibition at MOMA that focuses on late seventies NY punk (that I absolutely love). Am planning to come over to catch it before it ends in November. Have you seen it? Would you recommend it? Thanks!
7:27am
Joe:
No, Marco, I haven't gotten there on "free" night yet. Regular admission is something like 15 dollars now (more in pounds sterling, I'd imagine), so I need to get there on "pay as you wish" night!
7:44am
dale:
wow! haven't heard lats all chant since I put my 45s away. right up there with popcorn and keem-o-sabe!!
7:46am
dale:
let's all chant is up there with popcorn and keem-o-sabe !
7:46am
Joe:
Damn! Wish I had one of those records with me!
7:46am
dale:
sorry for the double post - first one never showed up (til now!!!)
7:50am
dale:
did the electric indian do anything other than the 45 (i don't recall the b-side)....i live up by Jimmy Sturr, but have yet to force myself to one of his gigs.
7:51am
Joe:
Damn! I wish I had one of those records with me! (See, we both did it!)
7:51am
Joe:
You've gotta do it! It's a trip.
7:57am
dale:
reading up through the comments, i won the vial of joe strummer backwash beer that hova gave out that day (i think it was hova). problem is I can't find it now. i wanted to clone him and raise him so i don't have to rely on social security when i'm old.
7:59am
Joe:
So YOU were the lucky backwash recipient! I think there are still a few vials floating around somewhere. There's still hope! Well, unless you're in a Jim Carroll song...
8:18am
Marco:
Sad to hear that Willy De Ville has left us. Thanks for playing the Mink De Ville and Jim Carroll tracks.
8:19am
Joe:
Yes, it's a drag. So young, too. But at least he left behind a lot of great music we can listen to until WE go.
8:22am
Marco:
And let's hope we can keep on listening to music even after, whatever comes next!
8:25am
Lisa the Bearded Lady:
Another fab show, Joe. I was going to write in and request some Mink DeVille, but of course, you were a step ahead of me.
8:26am
Joe:
Aw, thanks, Lisa! You a rock star!
8:27am
Lisa:
I know you are, but what am I?
8:28am
Joe:
Shucks! :)
8:38am
Lisa:
Jeez, this is apparently a theme show -- Make Lisa Cry. First Mott the Hoople and now one of my favorite JR songs. Waaaah
8:39am
Joe:
I'm not going to talk to you about macrobiotic cooking!
8:40am
Joe:
Am I better than the wall? I hope so.
8:44am
Lisniffle:
You are better than talking to the wall about macrobiotic cooking.
8:45am
Joe:
Ha! I don't want to talk to you about your pet cats.
8:50am
Lisa:
Fine! They don't want me to talk to you anymore, anyway.
Have a great rest of your Saturday, Joe.
8:54am
Joe:
Thanks, Lisa, you too!!
