Jody! Many thanks to you as producer/manager/svengali of the Lady AMANDA's records. I'm a huge fan.

@DCE: "Jody" is the same one referred to as "Joseph" in Amanda recordings.
  3:25pm
Jody:

Thank YOU Matt! We were pretty misunderstood kids... ;)
  3:27pm
Parq:

Jody and Amanda sat down with OPI a year ago for an extended chat. Very entertaining. Amanda's quite the babe now, too.
  3:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

Misunderstood kids unite!

I still remember so much from "The Amanda Chronicles" last summer. Any plans for you and Amanda to return to WFMU for a listener Q&A?
  3:30pm
gremlins after midnight:

jody & amanda sound like very normal kids to us
  3:31pm
Jody:

None yet. Amanda works 50+ hours a week back home so it's hard for her to visit me up here in NY. I'd love to tho.
  3:32pm
Marmalade Kitty:

does anybody know the name of the amusing rap/hiphop track I'm thinking of? It's a cross between Amanda-Bummer andEddie cochran-something else!
  3:33pm
Jody:

hey... let me call her at work and see if she can listen for a few minutes and sign on to chat haha
  3:33pm
High Tech:

@Jody -- It could be done as a threeway conference call at her convenience, then played on the show after being edited to within an inch of its life.
  3:34pm
jan:

By playing Joe Cuba- all of the preceding is forgiven.
  3:35pm
Bad Ronald:

  3:50pm
Parq:

Amanda-la! So nice of you to take time out of your work so that we have this swell excuse to ignore our own. You are among friends and admirers, as you surely realize.
  3:51pm
Parq:

Have you been achieving fame and acclaim in other forums besides FMU?
  3:52pm
AMANDA:

THANKS GUYS! PLEASE SEND COOOOKIES MY WAY....there is a shortage her..BUMMERS!
  3:53pm
Irwin:

Nestor wants to duet with you, Amanda-san.
  3:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

So glad to finally chat with you, Amanda! One longstanding question I've had for you and Jody since your interview is Sade's "Smooth Operator"--you said you loved the song and that it was one of your first recordings. Have you found that tape, to compare your early "Mimi" to later recordings? Is it in the shipment Jody already sent to Irwin?
  3:54pm
ScottC:

must get Amanda Music - need Amanda Music please give some Amanda music
  3:54pm
AMANDA:

No fame except through irwin and wfmu. which has been very unexpected and humorous!
  3:54pm
nestor:

would be a dream come true...
could we do a banana smoothie duet?
WE ARE KINDRED COOKIES! XOXO
  3:55pm
Bad Ronald:

Concrete f-in Nipples!!!
  3:55pm
Parq:

Do your friends at work know you're a rock star?
  3:56pm
ScottC:

I'll even do the CD package for FREE - swag too!
  3:56pm
AMANDA:

LOVES SADE! Jody bought me front row tickets one year for my berfday! It changed my life. But I havent found any more early mimi recordings. It may be in Irwins last shipment maybe. Fingers are crossed!
  3:57pm
Jody:

Matt, Amanda's first cassette was called "Amanda" and contained 5 recordings. 4 covers, including "Smooth Operator," and one original called "Amanda's Song," which was basically me and Amanda (in pre-cookie voice) screaming "Amanda" over and over. I need to send Irwin that tape to digitize. It's pretty grating. I don't know.... early stuff. haha
  3:58pm
AMANDA:

Banana Smoothies sounds DELICIOUS! thats the best idea, nestor.
  3:58pm
Bad Ronald:

Banana tacos!!!
  3:58pm
Jody:

That tape was from 1985 btw, Matt.
  3:59pm
nestor:

put the lid on!
q-did you ever find yourself with a terrible sore throat post-recording session with Jody? lol! also...what kind of recording device did you guys use?
my hope is that you talked like that at school.....
  3:59pm
AMANDA:

BANANAS FOSTER!!!!!!
  3:59pm
don:

amanda! fashion from limbo only for a bimbo don't you limbo if you aren't properly dressed!
  3:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thank you guys! Grating or no, I must know the truth! If it can't be played with any fidelity, perhaps Irwin could leave on that tape, just blaring the studio and airwaves as Ken & Andy come on!
  3:59pm
nestor:

love bananas foster!
  4:01pm
Jody:

We used a little red boombox with stereo recording mics (one at each speaker), so when we wanted that wild bouncing back and forth between left and right, we'd tilt the boombox wildly from sound source to sound source. Amanda got the most sore throat after recording a 9-minute opus called "Monumental Whopper Turmoil Jam," which hasn't been played yet on this show I don't think.... sorry Amanda lol
  4:01pm
AMANDA:

Oh yeah. I sipped on warm tea with lemon and whiskey before recordings to ease my throat. Mariah Carey style. AND I talked more in COOKIE VOICE than my own..still do.
  4:02pm
Irwin:

Kids then. And now.
  4:02pm
Bad Ronald:

Banamanda!!!
  4:03pm
Jody:

Best use of Amanda's "Cookie" voice ever was when she sang Happy Birthday to our brother over the loud speakers at Family Skate Center. It was his 5th grade birthday. He was understandably horrified. LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZP564LE4_A
  4:03pm
AMANDA:

this is fashion: I look totally rockstar in a tye dyed unitard.
  4:03pm
nestor:

and now, I think many of us talk like you, too! I am doing it right now, baby, YEAH!
Jody! thanks for the recording information...
i had a cassette recorder that broke and somehow i was able to record over my own voice...got really super-creepy results! wish i could get a hold of those....
you guys are so swell.
  4:04pm
Jody:

Thank u nestor! Wait, is this Nestor from Sarasota?!?
  4:05pm
nestor:

no...:) from NYC (you have a nestor in sarasota?)
  4:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

I'm pleased at your extensive use of The Beatles White Album, one of my teen favorites myself! Did y'all think of your lyrics after listening to a particular song, or try to fit a song into already-written lyrics?
  4:06pm
Jody:

Yeah, an old friend of mine, but really nice to meet u nestor from NYC! I'm in nyc actually... oh! I made a Facebook page for Amanda if any of ya'll wanna join. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=50372071600&ref=ts
  4:09pm
Marmalade Kitty:

WHAT?
  4:10pm
nestor:

what will it take to get you to do a show....?
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Can't join until I get away from work (and they locked away YT again, bastards!) but I'll be sure to check out the FB page.
Yes, I can tell I've watched that video before, though! The one where Amanda is a "guest" on Jody's music show is also fantastic.
  4:11pm
Jody:

Liquor. LOL
  4:12pm
Liquor:

I'm quickuor!
  4:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

PLASTERED!! Please tell me Jody wrote the lyrics to this one, a 8/9 year old shouldn't think of this on their own!

Amanda -
"Plastered (feat. The Beatles, "Birthday")"
  4:12pm
AMANDA:

yes. yes and yes. AND cookies.
  4:12pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Jim Morrison before his balls dropped!
  4:12pm
Bad Ronald:

Liquor? Don't even know her!
  4:12pm
Parq:

Liquor reminds me, where did you used to sneak the whiskey for your throat balm?
  4:13pm
Candy:

But I'm dandy.
And I was in "American Griffiti" way back when.
  4:13pm
Jody:

Oh yeah, I wrote this one, with some ad libs from Meme. Amanda always one-upped me. "Me Swinging In Cookieland" and "Pickle People" were genius.
  4:14pm
Jody:

Hey Irwin, do u have the cover of "Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da" from that master tape?
  4:15pm
AMANDA:

Life goes on BRA! BRASS BIKINI! We should do a remix combining the two songs!!!
  4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

We can really go off on a lark and call it after an obscure metal, the "Yttrium Award" - or, better still, the "Whittrium Award".
  4:17pm
Jody:

Amanda once farted into a live mic in 1993 on WRVU, campus radio station for Vanderbilt UNiversity, Nashville, TN. 3 am. LOL.... remember that? Good times.
  4:17pm
Detroit Mac:

I cannot begin to express my thanks for Irwin and AMANDA.
  4:19pm
Joe Mulligan:

Amanda crush!
  4:19pm
nestor:

Jody & Amanda...you guys totally have to enter this contest...
I cannot think of a better way to wake up astronauts...LOL!

  4:19pm
Irwin:

re: Ob-La-Di -- haven't finished cleaning up the audio on that. (As if it needs refinement.)
  4:20pm
Joe Bacon:

I must yield to temptation and join the Amanda Facebook group. Now, if I could only get some Keebler Chocolate Fudge cookies...
  4:21pm
Joe Mulligan:

2 weeks ago at the Jersey shore there was a surfer woman in her 50s who dropped in on EVERY wave we took. we called her the Brass Bikini!
  4:22pm

I haven't heard this since 1983! (?) Now I'm thinking of the Escalator of Life.
  4:22pm
Joe Mamma:

That wuz me!
  4:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Great display on the WRVU radio! There's a long discussion on the Jun 23 2010 playlist regarding "Amandology" as a serious university discipline.
  4:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

I have some Peanut Butter cookies at home - what are your favorite cookie flavors, anyway? How 'bout cakes?
  4:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Also Irwin, the playlist (or rather Amanda symposium soundtrack) is excellent today, particularly re: Caravelles, Peter Godwin, and Lyn Collins ("it takes two to make a thing all right..."); we're just too ecstatic to comment on the music right now!
  4:27pm
Jody:

Those big flat frosty lemon ones that came in packs of ten and twenty that made my face as wide as an Arkansas trailer back in the 80's.
  4:28pm
don:

this bill wells trio is perfection
  4:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Until next time!!!!!!
  4:45pm
Marmalade Kitty:

would you care to name the grumpy one, Irwin? Hope it's not me??
  4:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Whew, what just happened? Was I REALLY chatting with Amanda and Jody on the playlist, or was it an Inception/Level 3 dream? I'm hearing Nick Drake, which would imply I'm now in a nice Level 2 dream.
  4:50pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Grumpy Jan..? o.o
  4:50pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

cool tune for changing seasons
  4:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Totally agree, as was Joni's original "Circle Game", figuratively. "Urge for Going" is a great literal change of the seasons song.
  4:52pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Bad Ronald..? o.o
  4:53pm
Marmalade Kitty:

naming names! Rolfs 'ariss
  4:54pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

that whole record (inherited from my folks) is just geared towards Sept/Oct and lovely golden afternoons
  4:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

@MKitty: I think he meant Jan (who once said he's a guy--so "Yahn" maybe?); Jan's not such a fan of Amanda. I though already had what was the best afternoon of this month!
  4:55pm
north guinea hills:

Nice Lennie Tristano!
  4:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, Tom Rush actually predates Joni, he recorded some of her songs before she did--thanks DCE, I got to check that album out now!
  4:57pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I was paranoid thinking Irwin meant me! haha, yes always fun! nameing the grump is also fun!
  4:58pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I go home now. You stay and cover for me.
  4:58pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I've been called out before on the show...and it's always a special privelege.
  4:59pm

Sonny Rollins = "MOR." "LOL!"
  5:01pm
Glenn Beck:

Ok I'm here everybody relax
  5:02pm
Mike East:

Sonny Rollins is coming into the rehearsal studio I work at next week. I think he's playin at the Beacon Theater. I'm hoping I'll be able to hear him through the wall at my desk.
  5:02pm
Glenn Beck:

Irwin sound my theme please!
  5:04pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: Hope you enjoy that -- since he's still around treasure that while you can!

@Bill: they say you can make some mean Jello by using dope instead of water...
  5:17pm
Jello:

Mike East:

To be honest, I didn't even know he was still alive until his management called me up a few weeks ago. All I know of him is the few records I enjoy from time to time.
  5:22pm
wikipedia:

sonny r. turns 80 on tuesday...
  5:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: I didn't realize Sonny was still alive either until you mentioned it, so I looked it up (I talk to "wikipedia" even off-line, y'know).
  5:26pm
RIAA:

Pirates are so *manly*!
  5:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Shit, you're right Irwin, Peter Frampton WAS in Humble Pie! That must be what gave "Town and Country" that sound.
  5:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

More new Amanda! This sounds like her "classic" Meme style!
  5:29pm
W00t:

Amanda threepeat!
  5:29pm
Irwin:

CRANK IT, CHILD!
  5:30pm
Todd in Whitehorse:

Is Amanda still here? I'm all aflutter.
  5:30pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Amanda could audition for South Park instead of Peanuts..
  5:30pm
jeremy:

holy crap this is awesome. love that it's not in mono too
  5:30pm
Hertz:

Part of that last screech was only audible to dogs.
  5:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

Don't crank it, SPANK IT, CHILD!

Great screeching on this one!
  5:32pm
nestor:

that was me poot? lol.
  5:32pm
jk:

the harmonicats rule!
  5:33pm
Joe Bacon:

Amanda proves herself a worthy student of the James Brown Scream. Now if she had only mastered the James Brown Mock Faint, she would have given Tiffany a real run for the Teen Idol crowd!
  5:35pm
Marmalade Kitty:

My dog is empathizing!
  5:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Indiana Hoots, there's an Amanda-themed blockbuster right there! I'll give Spielberg a ring to see if he'll take the project...
  5:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

@MKitty: is your empathizing with Luke Vibert, or Amanda?

Jan, it's okay to crawl out of the shelter now! (And is it "Yahn", like the European way, or "Jaen", like Jan & Dean?)
  5:38pm
Laura L:

What about an analysis of the Blixa Bargeld scream vs. Amanda?
  5:38pm
?:

Irwin plays Steely Dan. All is forgiven.
  5:41pm
Marmalade Kitty:

My inner dog is empathizing with Luke VibertFly Hawaii.. My /dog/ was empathizing with Amanda, i think
  5:41pm
jan:

Jan like "and Dean". Only thing is- Steely Dan grates my ears in a polar opposite way to Amanda
  5:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

Irwin, I owe you eternal gratitude for unleashing Amanda on us, and now this fantastic Q&A! Plus Nick Drake, The Dan, and now THE CHURCH! Please don't wake me up!
  5:44pm
nestor:

yay thanks brm
  5:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks "Jän"--well what about the other songs in this set? Like this old Bee Gees?
  5:46pm
Marmalade Kitty:

bee gees before their balls dropped you mean?
  5:46pm
?:

You know what would make this afternoon just perfect? Miley Cyrus.
  5:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

@MKitty: your dog empathizes with many more frequencies than we can, and 'FMU is certainly a good place to find super/sub-sonic sounds!
  5:47pm
Marmalade Kitty:

sorry, after!
  5:47pm
Dale from North Dakota:

In the world of one hit wonders, Haircut 100 was one of the best
  5:48pm
Matt from Springfield's Dad:

"Is this Joe Jackson?"
Actually it's a New Wave band called Haircut 100.
"No, it's gotta be Joe Jackson!"
  5:49pm
Marmalade Kitty:

The very best of, as opposed to..
  5:49pm
Bill:

I still waiting for the Amanda, Miley Cyrus duet.
  5:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Bee Gees SHORTLY after their balls dropped, up to their pre-disco days. "Poor man's Beatles" ballad sound.
  5:50pm
jan:

Since you asked- Ah ah ah, stayin alive, stayin alive, in a monotone. I'm the guy who complained about high register vocals and twangy guitars that sometimes make it into Irwin's programming. Irwin introduced my ears to Luc Vibert Nuggets years back and I purchased the Disc.
  5:52pm
Monitor:

So you come by your Luc Vibert and grumpiness honestly -- from the DJ. Is that it?
  5:52pm
Marmalade Kitty:

@Matt from Springfield, my inner dog hears everything!
  5:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

(rumble, rumble) NOOO! I'm NOT waking up Jack! This is the best Level 2/3 dream I've been in for a long time! I can already hear 7SD coming on the horizon, to give me a rude awakening!
  5:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

@jan: Luke Vibert was nice, glad you enjoyed something in that set as much as I did!
@MKitty: This show has been one long treat/belly-rub for my Inner Dog! How bout yours?
  5:57pm
jeremy:

this guy isn't labeled yet???
  5:57pm
jan:

i'd rather buy used CDs than download from itunes, but sometimes someone burns a copy for me, if that's what you mean. Irwin is going through an Amanda phase. later he will find something equally distinguished for our listening pleasure or displeasure. Speaking of which, this accapella about radio deserves comment- anyone want to take a crack?
  5:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ron Griffin's protege, Ed Schneider! This episode is simply too great to end, but as it must, I salute you Irwin, for an almost constant stream of beauty and ecstasy today! See you next week!
  5:58pm
chi/kme:

jan: i got nothin.
  5:58pm
Joe Bacon:

Thanks for another great show, Irwin!
  5:59pm
Monitor:

Let's end it here.
  5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hmm, maybe 7SD isn't waking up, but rather a Level 1 surreally-constructed dream. I'll see what Andy & Kids are up to...g'bye Irwin and everyone!
  4:12pm
mono messiah:
