Listener comments!

  9:04pm
jonathan:

What album was that ELO track from? Thought I knew all the old ELO.
  9:05pm
efd:

it's on ELO II - just updated the playlist
  9:09pm
AZ:

Now this is what we call "a deep cut!" Note the astonishingly shameless lifts from "See My Baby Jive."
  9:10pm
Brian:

Huh, thought this Paper Lace song was The Sweet at first...
  9:13pm
efd:

hey AZ, nice to see you back on the playlist! Yeah, "shameless" sums that up pretty well.

Brian, I think if I were The Sweet I'd be insulted by that comment!
  9:20pm
AZ:

When I saw "The Prophet Song" pop up in the playlist before the music began, I thought: Wow! Evan's found some ultra-obscure cover version of the Queen's "The Prophet's Song"!. Oh well...
  9:21pm
Marco D Argento:

Hello EFD:) good Wednesday night to ya:)
  9:23pm
efd:

Hi Marco, thanks for checking in! Good Wednesday night to you as well.

AZ, yeah, I got a little trigger happy with the playlist update there!
  9:24pm
Joe:

hip hop and comics go together so.... great
  9:33pm
Joe:

Oh no.
  9:34pm
Joe:

here it comes.
  9:34pm
Joe:

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd there it is.
  9:36pm
Amanda:

The lead-in was not quite long enough for me, but I enjoyed that all the same.
  9:39pm
efd:

Joe, nice play by play.

Amanda, I know what you mean... I would have dragged it out more if I hadn't already talked a lot in that break.
  9:46pm
Marco D Argento:

Suzin waldman? She's still alive? R U sure???
  9:48pm
Joe:

She is, if you can call that living.
  9:50pm
Marco D Argento:

I don't know about this? didn't she retire and die of heart disease in 2008?
  9:53pm
efd:

Marco, I can assure you she's very much alive... maybe you're thinking of someone else?
  9:54pm
Joe:

Um... nope I listened to her call the game today, in fact. I'm not sure who you're getting her confused with?
  9:55pm
Joe B:

Black Angels = great. I recommend their other three albums as well!
  9:56pm
efd:

and the covers are as good as the music!
  9:56pm
Joe:

agreed, Joe B. - their first album hit when I was at a very impressionable age and has likely warped my tastes accordingly.
  9:57pm
Marco D Argento:

Well if you say so? I'm all mixed up:( I haven't listened to a ball game on the radio for 10 years?
  10:00pm
Marco D Argento:

But Bobby Mercer isn't alive right?
  10:01pm
john:

Hey Evan! I still can't get it straight in my head that the show starts at 9, apparently. Definitely going back to the archive for the 45 minutes I missed...looks great!
  10:05pm
efd:

Hi John! It's still not quite straight in my head either, to tell you the truth! I dare say the first 45 minutes are worth going back for.

Marco, yes, Bobby Murcer is dead.
  10:06pm
john:

They are, but I'm glad I got here in time for the WNYU flashback Lime Spiders!
  10:06pm
Amanda:

I will be going back for the Mo-Dettes song I missed when I was running to the grocery store a moment ago.
  10:12pm
john:

Pluton is French for Pluto. Who knew they were Disney fans....
  10:14pm
Skirkie:

Shana Tova, folks.
  10:20pm
efd:

Amanda, you won't be sorry!

John, it seems so obvious now - can't believe I didn't know that! Support disenfranchised planets!

L'Shana Tova right backatcha, Skirkie!
  10:24pm
Parq:

Bobby Mercer is dead?? I didn't even know he was sick!
  10:25pm
Parq:

And I've been digging that Modettes song for a quarter century, and I still don't have the vaguest idea what the lyrics are.
  10:29pm
efd:

That makes two of us, Parq!

And yeah, Murcer died maybe two years ago... I think brain cancer?
  10:30pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans! :)
Hi Evan!
Some exciting fantasy playoffs going on btw.
Currently, my New Jersey Knuckles are trailing defending champion Ubergoober in one quarterfinal 7-5. The other quarterfinal has EFD's Bernie Carbo Loaders tied with the Grand Slam Singles 5-5

In the consolation bracket, the current scores are:
Shaolin Monks 7 Kingman Rat Delivery 2
and
Villainous Fats 8 Get Metsmerized! 4

And here's a special hello to Amanda to greet her when she returns from shopping :)
  10:31pm
Danne D:

You are correct about Bobby Murcer - he passed away in July of '08 :(
  10:36pm
Danne D:

*scared that Evan will steal my bones if he doesn't win the fantasy league this year*
  10:36pm
Joe:

this song is profoundly disturbing when performed live. -Profoundly-.
  10:36pm
efd:

hey Danne! Thanks for the update(s). The Grand Slam Singles' manager is right here watching the action!
  10:37pm
efd:

Joe, it's pretty unsettling on CD so I can only imagine the live version.
  10:37pm
john:

Hey! I sure am!
  10:37pm
Amanda:

Never fear Danne, I have been back home some 30 minutes. Glad to see Mr. Skirkie in the howwwwse also
  10:38pm
Juice:

Oh yeah!
  10:38pm
Joe:

Especially when it's the first time you've ever heard it.

"Man, this song is great. Wait, is he singing about... oh. Oh I see."
  10:40pm
Scott S.:

Are you a libra EFD? I is!
  10:41pm
Skirkie:

Aye, in howse. I trust your various travels went well today Ms. Amanda?
  10:41pm
Danne D:

Happy birthday EFD! :)
An in-person howdy to you Amanda :)

I bet that a dance remix of that song would be killer, Evan!
  10:42pm
Elwyn:

Does drinking human bone marrow count as cannibalism?
  10:42pm
Danne D:

<to the Grand Slam Singles> - I would let Evan get near any skinning materials - I'm just saying.
  10:43pm
Danne D:

I like when Evan channels Penfold and says "Oh Crumbs"
  10:44pm
Parq:

The only predecessor name I remember for the Palladium is the New York Acadmy of Music.
  10:45pm
sue:

the academy of Music??
  10:46pm
john:

Danne, it's OK. My pitchers are doing it for him.
  10:48pm
efd:

Parq/Sue, I guess it was just the Academy of Music. I thought there was someone's name attached but I guess not.

Scott, yes, Libra here - Danne & all, hold all birthday greetings for a few weeks. :)
  10:48pm
Danne D:

Dangermouse was like the only good new cartoon to come out in like that whole decade it seems.
  10:50pm
Amanda:

Yes! My travels went awesome. I went to Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus on the #2 bus.

Love that Gary Numan track, by the way, though I say so long after the fact.
  10:52pm
Skirkie:

Ah yes, I use the #2 when my car is in the shop, tomorrow morning for instance.
  10:55pm
Scott S.:

I just have to say "F for Fake" is a great Orson Welles film
  10:55pm
Kramrellim:

It was Howard Stein's Academy of Music.
  10:56pm
john:

I agree with Scott, except for that last half hour digression, which I can never quite sit through without reaching for a book or the radio or the telephone...
  10:57pm
efd:

a-HAAA! I thought it was Howard something. Thank you, Kramrellim!

and thanks Scott, for refreshing my memory about the origin of that phrase.
  11:00pm
Mike East:

F is for Fake - is on my netflix instant queue now. Thanks for the recommendation...and thanks for great tunes, Evan!
  11:00pm
Mike East:

pardon me.."F for Fake"
  11:10pm
Danne D:

awesome Evan :)
This was such an amazing show
  11:13pm
Marco D Argento:

That song always makes me laugh:) how can you "put your camel to bed"
  11:16pm
Mike East:

off to catch the midnite bus to Jersey...enjoy the rest of the show everyone! Sorry I'll miss it.
  11:17pm
Danne D:

Marco - it's easy once you get over the hump
  11:17pm
Danny in BK:

This is amazing!!!!
  11:18pm
Amanda:

Their Hispanic Majesties Request is my favorite title for anything in recent memory.
  11:20pm
efd:

Agreed, Amanda! Glad you liked it, Danny.

Thanks for stopping by, Mike!
  11:22pm
Marco D Argento:

Before my iPhone battery dies I'd love to hear mission of burma's - that's when I reach for my revolver.
  11:22pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Last couple of songs were outstanding--reminding me of how much I've missed this program over the summer
  11:27pm
efd:

Thanks, Michael!

Marco, I love that song but it's going to be tough for me to squeeze in a request this late in the show. Maybe next week?
  11:28pm
Danne D:

Still adjusting to Amanda commenting late in the show. I'll never get used to the new time slot :)
  11:30pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--with summer rapidly coming to an end, is there a schedule change for fall?
  11:32pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Hey EFD Jo Callis and Phil Oakey probably made a year's pay on that commercial (If I recall correctly they're the co-writers).
  11:36pm
Danne D:

C'mon Ev, Ted FUCKING Williams was the highlight - you just can't say so on the air :)
  11:37pm
Marco D Argento:

I follow you on twitter:)
  11:38pm
Marco D Argento:

Anyone can follow me on twitter too:) Marco_D_Argento
  11:39pm
Marco D Argento:

I don't believe 70 million people are on twitter! That's gotta be wrong!
  11:41pm
Skirkie:

about 15 million are fake spam bots, another 4 million, strippers.
  11:42pm
efd:

Michael, yes, there will be a new schedule in early October; should be announced a week or two before then.
  11:42pm
cheri:

hi evan--how was your labor day weerkend? i'm sorry i'm late but i just came back from a party,,,i'm soo sorry evan,,
  11:42pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Hey EFD, speaking of crappy commercials--I saw some commercial when I was in New Orleans last week (but I'm sure it's national) for a perfume that used the Rolling Stones'
She Said Yeah" (the actual track)
  11:42pm
Marco D Argento:

Ohhh you don't know how much spam there was when I first signed on to twitter
  11:42pm
Skirkie:

And probably another 4 million are just people who have said. "Trying to figure this thing out." and have said nothing since.
  11:44pm
Marco D Argento:

1 day I got 60 followers! All spammers!!!
  11:45pm
Marco D Argento:

I deleted my account 4 times! Until twitter started getting tough with these fucken spammers
  11:46pm
Marco D Argento:

Just mention things like tide and Lexus and see what happenes!
  11:47pm
cheri:

efd--i mite be here early next week,,g'nite evan
  11:49pm
Danne D:

There is a tedwilliams on twitter.
But no tedfuckingwilliams
  11:52pm
Danne D:

Do you think Johnny Cash stole his bones after he shot that guy in Reno?
  11:53pm
efd:

I have a feeling it wasn't a friend of his whom he shot.
  11:54pm
efd:

Michael, I don't think I've seen that perfume/Stones commercial.

Hi Cheri/bye Cheri! see you next week.
  11:56pm
Danne D:

In Honor of Dave the Spazz, a different Stones commercial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZBmhEMFdl0
  11:56pm
cheri:

evan,,since i dropped my phoney personas would you consider me a "DISCO DIVA"?
  11:57pm
Danne D:

wait, what phoney personas, cheri!?!?

I will remind Evan that no less than Rush Limbaugh married one of his listeners.

Just sayin' ;)

Anyhow, goodnight Cheri :)

Goodnight Evan :)

Goodnight Funkville!
  12:00am
Joe:

  12:01am

cheri:

  10:46am
listener:

  12:47pm
Lou D.:

It was originally called The Academy of Music and the show you saw was the Pleasure Principal tour. It had the keyboard players in the back in towers with fluorescent lights running up and down them. I was at this same show.
  12:48am
juice:

I just saw a commercial that uses the original Human League version of Fascination for the Samsung 'Fascinate'. It's a breath of fresh air compared to that Kingsford Charcoal commercial!
