Listener comments!

  3:07pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

my yoga position is the "farting domesticated farm animal"
  3:08pm
Laura L:

What a scrooge! C'mon, give the terrorists the leftover helium.
  3:08pm
another old man:

Is this the Irwin room in the WFMU funhouse?
  3:10pm
The Gambler:

The cards...you must know when to be holding them. And also you must know when to be folding them.
  3:11pm
marq:

I am here.... for some reason I guess.
  3:11pm
Kenny R:

I'm more fun than Kenny G
  3:14pm
Profiler:

Irwin is just a dialed-down, toned-down Old Codger.
  3:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Tim F-G sounds pretty cool. Is this stuff new or old?

I'm disappointed Ken isn't airborne yet! How are we doing on that goal, Irwin?
  3:16pm
Radio Stunt:

Did you notice the setup was full of hot air? Think about it.
  3:22pm
wet noodle:

WFMU programming is the finest stunt of all.
  3:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Should have included "Emergency" in the title like last year, let people know they need to get out their wallets immediately.
  3:23pm
Shekel Shakers:

There's some coins in Irwin's couch! Grab it and shake them out!
  3:24pm
Radio Stunt:

Do not contribute chocolate chanukkah gelt please, all you cheapskates out there
  3:27pm
Freedom Fighter:

What about me?
  3:30pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

"splendid!"
  3:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Professor Elemental needs at least one track with autotune -- T-Prof.
  3:31pm
screaming banshee:

And don't forget, Amandafans, for a sizable pledge you can still get Don't Mess With the Power Child.
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

MAMBANDA!
Danco samba, child!
  3:37pm
berlusconi's nose:

OH NO! the lil' monster HAS returned!
  3:37pm
Parq:

Thanks for playing "Valley of Malls", one of my alltime top FOW songs. Had the mixed pleasure of blasting that in a rented car while driving through the Mission Valley section of San Diego, which, trust me, *is* the Valley of Malls.
  3:38pm
josh:

i love amanda... more more more more
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cut on that darn music - NOW!

And what is it with Brandy and shaking "nipples", or "tits" at the end of these songs!
  3:43pm
marq:

yes, play some amanda. we need some amanda after this morning's duhbockle.
  3:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

That Lane's quite the clever fella! Most people would just play this song faster and punkier!
  3:55pm
marq:

doug schulkind's email says it was just over a third of the 180,000 goal. is that right? thought it would be more. this is hard to believe. so many people tuned in to this. hmmmm. can you spare a dollar mister? need some sardines and a loaf of bread. and a beer.
  4:08pm
(¸.•´ (¸.•[]`•.¸.•´¯`•:

I just donut think an hour's enough -- needed to pitch a little longer, little harder -- and didn't send out the mailing early enough -- I only got it on Friday or so....
  4:08pm
Dowwwn Towwwn:

Everything's waiting for yoooou.
  4:09pm
still b/p:

This IS the miracle of Lourdes!
  4:09pm
Marshall Stacks:

Lourdes help us.
  4:10pm
hamburger:

Agreed, the morning probably wasn't enough time... although I was concerned with Ken's safety for this stunt.. but I did pledge
  4:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

It was promoted pretty heavily for a week preceeding, but a 3-hour timeframe is kind of short to make that amount of donations. Still, I pledged, and I increased my amount because they played Kate Bush!
  4:17pm
marq:

yes. i was thinking during the fund raiser today..am i missing something? it seems like there are always rules unwritten or not that restrict things during fund raising. like if for some reason he stayed out there all day and night and until the next day until the exact dollar figure was raised. why did it need to be one hour? i am pretty sure the money would have been raised if it was arranged another way. like right now ken could be sitting in the chair and $5,000 away from the goal.hmmmm.
  4:20pm
hamburger:

so anyone know if there'll be a recap of this on 7sd?
  4:21pm
wriggling fish:

I gave on-line last week, but it was not immediately apparent that you could give at any time and it would still count towards Ken's ascension (I did find out that you could and it would). Maybe a progress bar thoughout the week with today as the climactic moment would have helped.
  4:21pm
(¸.•´ (¸.•[]`•.¸.•´¯`•:

Pure speculation -- I'm not on te inside -- but prob the DJs wouldn't like that -- too exhausting. They don't want to do more than 1/year (?). Thought I heard they were really cranky and stressed out by the end of last March's fundraiser. Also Ken might've frozen to death out there by now.
  4:21pm
Robert:

Doesn't the station have a general blog? I think we're disrespecting our ol' pal Irwin by still going on about the mini-thon and the stn. mgr.'s valiant effort, when Irwin is giving us valuable lessons in cheating at cards. Think of how much we could win and then donate.
  4:23pm
kicking cat:

Irwin knows we love him, don't you Ol' Pal?
  4:24pm
(¸.•´ (¸.•[]`•.¸.•´¯`•:

Irwin doesn't give a flying rat's cloaca what we talk about here; he even says so every week on air! And humorously! Always makes me smile. Unlike most DJs, h says to talk aabout everything/anything here in his comments.
  4:26pm
Everything:

Hey, have you heard what Anything's up to? You'll never believe this...(sips water)
  4:26pm
Anything:

Everything's just a scumbag. Clearly it's because Everything is jealous of ME.
  4:28pm
Nothing:

What about me, dear cousins?
  4:28pm
Something:

come on guys, can't we meet halfway?
  4:29pm
Lizardner Dave:

Once upon a time there was a message board. The station didn't have the time to keep up with moderating it or safeguarding it from spammers so it went away. Now we just have the comments streams.
  4:30pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Elf Power will cure you.
  4:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Robert: What if 'FMU just got insiders to skim off of the totals at a casino counting room, like the Mafia in the film "Casino"?
  4:32pm
marq:

yes. it is always an edgy issue with freeform of any kind. if wfmu REALLY wanted to raise some money it could in a big way. but then it would all be over. given in to the world around us. we don't want that.
  4:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LDave: Variations of mathematical formulae with randomly-generated equation digits keep the bad spammers away.
  4:37pm
Lizardner Dave:

@Matt - Yeah, I know, but that was one of the stated reasons the station ditched the board. I'm sure there were unstated reasons.
  4:38pm
marq:

we listeners do not know enough about the internal culture at wfmu. that's it.
  4:39pm
BSI:

KENNY GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4:40pm
BSI:

PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!
  4:41pm
marq:

kenny g has been a big sore spot missed at wfmu. he kept wfmu together. there is still a big hole (though it an a hole) in wfmu without him.
  4:42pm
Laura L:

Kenny G! We don't know what he'll do either! There's no replacing you, Irwin, but thank you for Kenny G as substitute!
  4:42pm
Jim:

Dreadful r e m on antidepressants or something
  4:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@marq: Let's try to make a documentary about the internal culture at 'FMU!

I believe they've said there have been 8 failed attempts at capturing the station in doco form. With us all working together I think we stand a great chance of crashing and burning for the 9th time!
  4:43pm
jeremy:

wish i was part of this jeremy trio. love this song
  4:45pm
Jim:

Tom waits? Your voice is here.
  4:47pm
Robert:

Please, nothing about internal culture. That's Pacifica-land. Just let me believe it's like it is in "Dead Air", i.e. that they'll sell each other out for the chance to do it, while zealously guarding their own independence and cannabis stash.
  4:48pm
BSI:

Or Bryce's aphid stash. Some things must remain sacred.
  4:48pm
marq:

ok robert. much small culture at wfmu when wfmu is bigger than the small culture wants to believe. wfmu is world wide and not inside of a capsule next to a post office.
  4:50pm
Robert:

But I do want to get in on marq's money-making scheme. I'm broke and I'm at robgood@bestweb.net; does it involve very highly paid mystery shopping or reshipping foreign goods orders?
  4:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

This Lothar is fantastic! Must learn more...
  4:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

And this demo! No idea a guy wrote this, let alone sung it!
  4:53pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I know what banks like
  4:55pm
stomping elephant:

Wasn't Lothar the name of the theremin, like Echo was the name of the Bunnymen's drum machine??
  4:56pm
Irwin:

Lothar was indeed the theremin of the group.
  4:56pm
Cheri Pi:

& as Roland was to Big Black
  5:11pm
...:

sounds like the Codger!
  5:15pm
marq:

robert: nope.
  5:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

How come this hasn't topped the Country Charts yet?
  5:17pm
cosmic:

yeah. uh uh oh!
  5:18pm
Lizardner Dave:

Now this is some star country I can get behind. I won't stand too close though.
  5:18pm
marq:

Matt: it isn't idiosyncratic enough for the general public
  5:19pm
don:

this shit is fire irwin - where is the entire album to be found?
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

This makes me warm and comfy yet envious. Us Internet listeners can often conflate WFMU with a very cool stream, but to think that in the NYC metro area this is actually being broadcast on terrestrial radio. Thank you 'FMU for all you do!
  5:22pm
marq:

I knew we could push Irwin's buttons enough to make him speak like that.
  5:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

What, the rejected associate producer applications bit?
  5:33pm
marq:

thanks wfmu. and Irwin. for being wfmu. not controlled even by the larger listener area of the rest of the world.
  5:34pm
jeremy:

why have i never heard of this band?
  5:41pm
hamburger:

@jeremy. that's what I've been saying ever since I've tuned on to WFMU, but more so, how do these DJs find the time to find this music? I used to be the more 'eclectic' type of listener around people I knew, but after WFMU, it really was stepping through the looking glass..
  5:43pm
jeremy:

@hamburger - agreed. my tastes seem to be drawn to this show and scott william's show. love the diversity and quality
  5:46pm
mick:

...hahaha......wet noodle !!!!
  5:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

L&R! 80s goth rock! Do you have Gene Loves Jezebel too?
  5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Loved the show today! Have a good one Irwin!
Good night everyone!
  12:50pm
PMD:

Stole your yoga thing - great!
