Favoriting July 27, 2011: Fucking Kings of Leon aren't real monarchs. It's just a band name. There's no Kingdom of Leon to be King of. And if there was, there would be ONE king, not a committee.

Hi Irwin!
  3:02pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

why did your mom dress you with a bow in your hair?
  3:02pm
Um:

Uhh
  3:03pm
Weekly Listener:

Lee has certainly changed styles.
  3:04pm
Laura L:

Those children rock!
  3:04pm
Listening Out There:

A: To get to the other side.
  3:04pm
Wick E. Pedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_León
  3:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Wick. I was just about to say.

"The Kingdom of León coexisted as a personal union under the Crown of Castile, with León possessing separate institutions, such as its own cortes, the Real Adelantamiento of the Kingdom of León, the Merino mayor of León, among others, many of which lasted until the 19th century."
  3:05pm
Denseley:

Man, you play this song every week.
  3:06pm
Stanley:

Is that Irwin lurking in the background?
  3:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

The King of Spain is still technically the King of Castile and Leon. The Kings of Leon could simply be past kings as zombies, or else each is king on a rotating basis.
  3:06pm
Kingdom of Leon:

OK, so we weren't Castille or Aragon. But jeez.
  3:07pm
Lizardner Dave:

Has anyone else noticed that there's a new selectquote.com ad campaign airing?
  3:07pm
Irwin:

To reiterate, there IS NO Kingdom of Leon.
  3:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Denseley: Yeah I know, almost like it establishes a THEME of sorts for the show. With a SONG. Funny inn't it...
  3:07pm
Kingdom of Leon:

We could kick the Sultans of Swing's asses.
  3:08pm
Contraction Action:

OK fine, as long as you weren't intending the equally-valid "There[WAS] no Kingdom of Leon".
  3:09pm
William Jefferson C.:

It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.
  3:12pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

baked, please
  3:12pm
G:

That's Irwin's great-grandfather in the back of the photo. Irwin inherited his hat, and a farm that was underwater on a mortgage.
  3:13pm
clyde stubblefield:

stupid funky- let's bring it Irwin
  3:13pm
Wild Neil:

90% of our population was rural 100 years ago...this is how people used to actually live....have some empathy for how HARD their lives were....and they were probably happier without IPODS, Email and freakin' cell phones!!!
  3:14pm
Cell Phone Owners:

How do I shut this goddam thing off for while.
  3:15pm
Tom ( The Bactrian Support Network ):

Votes for Amanda and Thomas rewrites the Beatles !!! yeaaaaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3:17pm
BDR:

I agree completely with you on Kings of Leon. Completely.

Imagine my surprise when you played Band of Craphorses last week, a band equal to Kings of Leon sucktacular suck.

Now, the Mike Doughty? Sweet.
  3:18pm
Matt:

Was that Sublime?
  3:19pm
Wild Neil:

Irwin, YOU ROCK, dude!!!
  3:19pm
Cell Phone Owners:

Did he catch that from the Old Codger?
  3:19pm
?:

yeesh . . . I pity the DJ having to get up close to the mic in the next shift . . .
  3:19pm
Nathan Detroit:

Irwin is our King of Cleon
  3:19pm
Lizardner Dave:

Hope Ken and Andy don't spend too much time asking about Soul Coughing tonight. Mike doesn't really like that (or at least I don't think he does based on what I've read).
  3:20pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

oh, you sound HORRIBLE!
  3:20pm
ginger tim:

Summer cold?

  3:21pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

vacations are a lot of work, but at least it gets one out of his/her rut.
  3:22pm
Corpse of Dennis Hopper:

"BEST BAND NAME EVER"
  3:22pm
USPS:

What is the exact address of Ken's head injury?
  3:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

I am quite pro-hippie. But I gotta agree with you: of anti-hippie songs, this is my fav as well.
  3:24pm
Trivia:

Steely Dan aren't real dildos. It's just a band name.
  3:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

WIZZ-O!! This one is new to me as well!
  3:28pm
hamburger / london:

hello! I'm liking this Wizz-O
  3:28pm
Clapton:

Wizz-o is a guitar God.
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hear these solos! This must be the encore or something! Has anyone got a ticket stub from this "Live & Insane" show from May 1 1982?
  3:29pm
Miriam:

grate a two or three tablespoons worth of fresh ginger, put it in a small pot with a cup and a half of water. Sprinkle in a bit of Cayenne pepper, as much as you think you can take. Boil until there's only about a cup of water left. Strain the ginger gratings out and drink it down. Bundle up, hat and scarf included, and get into bed. Sleep or read or watch tv, and sweat sweat sweat! Wake up well.
  3:29pm
Wizz-O:

Fond memories of when we opened for Turds of Misery.
  3:29pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Matt, check with the Tight Bros caller, maybe he saw Wizz-O and the laser beams and flipped on acid and....
  3:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi hamburger!
I saw on TV that in Britain, they can't tell the difference between Wizz-O and a dead crab.
(see: Python, Monty)
  3:31pm
Brass Knuckles:

Jesus. Songs just keep getting worse.
  3:31pm
Handsome Harry:

I don't hate this version of Hackensack.
  3:31pm
Nathan Detroit:

White Manna please!
  3:31pm
hamburger / london:

hi matt - not familiar with that reference (shame on me)
  3:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Dude, that's a good point! He was in the front row, FLipping on acid, and loved that light show you described! Then Mick Ralphs, MICK freakin' RALPHS, a legend in his own right (from Mott the Hoople and Bad Company) DUELS back and forth with Chris. And then, after "Tonight I'm Yours", he just STOPS, bows to him, and walks away. Chris is like the greatest guitarist EVER!!
  3:32pm
Handsome Harry:

The version by Turds of Misery is way better, though. Obviously.
  3:32pm
Tavish MacLeod:

Ugh, this is a little painful...
  3:33pm
Christopher Walken:

Katy, didn't we speak of this song's need for more cowbell?
  3:33pm
Aharon:

Pretty good job by Katy Perry. I like how she pronounces the word "Hackensack" as an Eastern European would.
  3:34pm
trs:

Hellbo.
  3:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

@hamburger: A Gilliam-imation seguing into pepperpots comparing Wizz-O Butter at a market. Pretty funny!
  3:34pm
Van:

Well obviously, if Irwin has a fever with his cold, it is he who needs more cowbell
  3:35pm
THE Bruce Dickinson:

Katy, that take was great, but...where's the cowbell??
  3:37pm
Remote Diagnosis:

Possibly Irwin contracted diphtheria, phthisis, or the whooping cough visiting that farm family to take their picture.
  3:37pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I introduced my kid to Professor Elemental last week and they got on splendidly.
  3:39pm
Katy Perry:

A cow-bell would offend the Eastern European sensibilities of Hackensack sophisticates.
  3:39pm
Brass Knuckles:

Sounded like Art Brut but worse.
  3:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Ever-so Splendid!
  3:39pm
AnAnonymousParty:

"It's blended". And why not?
  3:42pm
1/2 Million Gallon Tank:

Do I get a cut on the publishing?
  3:43pm
drewo:

Love this Bee Gees song! Maybe next time in the full million gallon steel tank!
  3:45pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Where's the "1/2 million gallon steel barrel" preset on my reverb unit?
  3:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Rotary Connection is awesome! Makes me want to abandon Touch-Tone and mobile phones!
  3:45pm
john:

That was not as awesome in a 1/2 million gallon steel tank as I imagined it was going to be when I saw the title pop up. Maybe nothing really could ever be that awesome, though.
  3:48pm
Kings of Lions:

I have no connection with the Rotarys.
  3:50pm
Respiratory Specialist:

Irwin's snottier than usual this week!
  3:54pm
joke in:

what do you do if you don't want to lose?
ir...win?
  3:57pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

another hipster band mining the girl-groups catalogs, YAY
  3:58pm
Innervisions Fan:

It's been a few weeks.
  4:01pm
Aharon:

Boy, it's good to be reminded every so often that Stevie Wonder lives up to the 4 decades of hype.
  4:01pm
Innervisions Non-Fan:

Give that man a pepto-bismol.
  4:02pm
Huh?:

something stupid in Welsh?????????
  4:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yep. "Something Stupid" a la Cymru!
  4:16pm
Talking Heads:

We oppose this song and everything it stands for.
  4:19pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

go Stevie (other Stevie)!
  4:20pm
Stevie Nicks:

What?
  4:22pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

not that far
  4:29pm
jonah matranga:

wait, this 'far'?
  4:29pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

no, farther yet
  4:30pm
father yeti:

here we am
  4:32pm
G:

Contemplative Amanda...
  4:33pm
Stevie Ray Vaughan:

Whoa, how'd y'all get in here?
  4:35pm

Amanda was listening to Syd Barrett and Tom Waits that day
  4:35pm

  4:38pm
Utility Bill:

  4:39pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

my wife's curling iron is so HOT!!
  4:40pm
Utility Bill:

....pass the super fucking cookies...
  4:41pm
Reddy Kilowatt:

Stay outta my stash, Bill.
  4:41pm
Clock:

I'll clock your ass.
  4:42pm
Brass Knuckles:

(whisper yell) Hey little kid. Do you want some candy?
  4:42pm
Barry:

Don't forget the corporate jets. We focus grouped the shit out of that.
  4:42pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

but seriously, why do we have to have a clock on every appliance? I have three clocks in my kitchen and none of them is right.
  4:43pm
little kid:

suck my clock brass
  4:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

What if I put my clocks inside an airtight plastic seal? Then it won't suck so much time away. Actually I'd need a "timetight" plastic bag.
  4:44pm
sigh:

ok, that's it.
  4:44pm
Utility Bill:

...yeah...timetight...I get it...I think they have those now...pfffffffttt...
  4:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Clocks have little objective meaning anyway, since all of them can be manually adjusted and changed. Time is whatever you want it to be.
  4:45pm
Barry:

@sigh: A member of the Haters Club, eh?
  4:45pm
Fran:

Amanda is a genius.
  4:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Amanda's screech on the other hand, is objective. Because whenever you hear it, you KNOW it is time for AMANDA!!!!
  4:45pm
Utility Bill:

....oh YEAH, man....time...like that Pink Floyd song...yeah....or the CHAMBERS brothers...yeah...
  4:45pm
Atomic Clock:

I'll give you a wedgie you'll never forget!
  4:46pm
Atomic Rooster:

I'll give you a _______ you'll never forget!
  4:46pm
Clock:

Does anybody really know what time it is?
  4:46pm
@cfoxxrun:

Hey Irwin! What is your all time favorite Amanda joint?
  4:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Clock: It was Amanda Time one song ago!
What time is it in Chicago?
  4:48pm
Dead Corporated Eyes:

what was the phone number to call to hear "at the tone, the exact time will be ...."? I can never remember it. And my clocks suffer because of it.
  4:49pm
Clock:

At the tone the time will be: 25 or 6 to 4.
  4:49pm
Chicago Time:

25 or 6 to 4
  4:49pm
Clock:

Great minds...
  4:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, Pastor Joe makes the stereotypical American seem so...stereotypical.
  4:49pm
Chicago Time:

damn, beaten by the Clock again...
  4:50pm
Clock:

haha!!!
  4:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

OMFG...."Bob" SINATRA!!!
  4:50pm
Chicago Time:

dude, I've got welts
  4:51pm
Clock:

@Chicago: I spanked you with the big hand, the little hand, AND the second hand.
  4:51pm
Jesus:

Shut-up y'all, I'm busy dealing with all this NASCAR shit right now.
  4:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Clock: If it's the second hand, then why is it the 3rd hand??
  4:52pm
Clock:

How could anyone have forgotten *this*?
  4:52pm
Bud Collyer:

Beat the Clock!
  4:52pm
Clock:

@Matt: To confuse people. Duh.
  4:54pm

Bud, violence is not the answer. Bud might actually be the answer.

@Irwin: That was LAST NIGHT!
The Jeff M. and Mary Wing fill-ins have already happened! The Sue P. and Nat Roe slots are on BEFORE YOU! And don't mumble with authority at me, buster!
  5:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

I like most everything Lane Steinberg releases--I'm glad he's coming on the show, even if the only persona that day will be Cracked Latin.
  5:43pm
Irwin:

@Hosts: I just read what's in front of me. I don't verify its accuracy or vouch for its authenticity.

With Tullis & Clark remixes, I think WFMU has moved from a non-commercial station, to a POST-commercial station. A whole new philosophy!
