Listener comments!

  3:11pm
Looms:

Hi Scott!
  3:13pm
Scott W:

Hiya Looms!
  3:19pm
Wild Neil:

Scott! Hi!!! You Rock! Keep up the great work!
  3:20pm
BSI:

outta meetings finally! Deploy headphones! SAVE ME FROM FURTHER DEVASTATION!
  3:20pm
dc pat:

Scott's work is rock.
  3:21pm
Brown Chicken:

Brown cow
  3:22pm
Wild Neil:

I thought the guy said "Eatin' Chicken,Its a Gas...blah blah blah..."
  3:25pm
Stanley:

Phew! Couldn't connect to wfmu about half an hour go. Nearly had a heart attack.
  3:25pm
Carmichael:

Wow, the Motels ... Where has Martha Davis gone?

Hi Scott, hi everyone.
  3:26pm
glenn:

my second favourite martha in rock and roll.
  3:26pm
Scott W:

anyone else having problems connecting? Martha Davis is (I think) still touring "Martha Davis's Motels" or something to that effect. All new young guys
  3:27pm
Carmichael:

Who's your 1st, Glenn? Martha and her Muffins?
  3:28pm
Looms:

I lost all data (128k stream and website connections) during Irene's show.
  3:28pm
Cecile:

They were an interesting band. Rather theatrical. I am always on the fence if their production hurt or helped them.
  3:32pm
glenn:

actually, for a while there were two marthas in martha and the muffins, as well as daniel lanois' sister jocelyn, who i had a super huge crush on. so, the answer is martha johnson.
  3:32pm
Scott W:

was never sure about motels til i saw/heard this live version of "total control" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLBZjdrKSpY now i'm positive
  3:33pm
v k:

@Looms - i lost contact with earth (WFMU) during Irene's show also
  3:35pm
Cecile:

I'd love to see what Martha Davis could do if someone decided she was going to be the female Roy Orbison and just set the drama to 10. No synths, a full orchestra, completely OTT.
  3:38pm
Scott W:

make it happen, Cecile!
  3:38pm
glenn:

oh yeah, is that the one where's she smoking on her knees? kinda, well, erotically?
  3:40pm
Carmichael:

Yeah, Total Control was the perfect song for them. She had the pouty drama vocals under that backbeat, mixed with the dreamy 80s sax and the stop/start rhythm.
  3:40pm
Scott W:

she's smoking in it, gets on her knees later to hold the mic for the sax solo
  3:41pm
Scott W:

great muted guitar too
  3:42pm
Cecile:

Ha, Scott! I wish. I can't even get creative control over a data entry protocol.
  3:42pm
Carmichael:

I think one of the Andes brothers was involved by that time. They went through so many guitarists, it made their songs sound wildly different.
  3:45pm
still b/p:

I had to make several tries to get to this playlist from the homepage in recent minutes.
  3:46pm
Scott W:

thanks for the updates all, the problem is a known one & we're werkin on it
  3:46pm
RuPaul:

You betta WERK.
  3:47pm
maestroso:

The Motels are playing, or just played, at the newly refurbished Newton Theatre in Sussex County NJ. Don't know if Martha is with them but I would assume so. Website is blocked here at work so I can't get any more info.
  3:48pm
BSI:

is it a KNOWN problem, in the biblical sense?
  3:48pm
Wild Neil:

Newton? I remember seeing Lord of The Rings (Ralph Bakshi) back in 78 with my mom and freezing my ass off...
  3:48pm
Ruaraidh:

Sounding great from over here in Scotland, Scott. Hope yr well!
  3:49pm
aaron in chicago:

back after more than a month without WFMU. another few days and i would have started shopping at banana republic
  3:52pm
Carmichael:

The Motels played at the Newton on 9/10, 1 day after Todd Rundgren.
  3:54pm
Cecile:

oh, Jeezus. Ralph Bakshi. My first purchase at SF con was a Wizards Tee with a picture of Necron 99/Peace on it. They would take the transfer and make it while you waited. I had them cut off the caption on the transfer that said "Peace" because I thought Necron 99 was cooler.
  3:54pm
Cecile:

That was back in 1905
  3:55pm
Joe H:

Great show Scott! We must get together for beer sampling soon. It's that Oktoberfest time of year dont'cha know!
  3:55pm
Cecile:

American Pop. Six kinds of lousy. Ugh.
  3:57pm
Scott W:

Cheers Ruaraidh! Bottoms up Joe H!
  4:01pm
BSI:

HA! Wizards... had to look that one up: 1977. Saw it in the theater weekly when it was out.
  4:02pm
maestroso:

Ah, ok. I was at the Todd concert.
  4:03pm
BSI:

Holy crap scott..... keep it up on this vibe and I'll send you buckets of GOD for xmas.
  4:05pm
Stanley:

Wow this shit really kicks
  4:06pm
Scott W:

All I want for Xmas is Buckets of God!!!
  4:07pm
BSI:

done!
  4:11pm
glenn:

is buckets of god a new metal band? if it isn't, it should be.
  4:14pm
nondairykramer:

this sounds suspiciously like On Any Street Corner by Tuxedomoon.
  4:14pm
hubba:

hello all... glad to see buckets of god are still playing. I thought someone of those dudes were home schooled?
  4:14pm
dc pat:

glenn: it is cuz I just formed that band. New record coming out tomorrow.
  4:17pm
Cecile:

Does it have a John Baizley cover of a hot nymph sitting on a pile of bones, dcp? Because that's sales GOLD with there.
  4:18pm
glenn:

i don't know john baizley, but if his work os anything like frank frazetta's, i agree.
  4:19pm
glenn:

or even better, tom of finland.
  4:19pm
Cecile:

it's like Frank Frazetta if he had better anatomy lessons, but was way more into Mucha and Aubrey Beardsley.
  4:20pm
andaloudog in DC:

Hey! The new Doug Gillard. Thanks!!!
  4:21pm
Scott W:

Hell yeah, Doug is great! Wotta guitar player, whew
  4:21pm
Cecile:

It would have to be cover art from the hearafter. Tom went to the big leather bar in the sky a while ago.
  4:21pm
Wild Neil:

Frazetta used to have a museum in Stroudsburg, PA, near the Delaware water gap...
  4:22pm
dc pat:

wait, what do you mean "anatomy lessons"? If we're talking about female parts, forget it--I'll go with Frazetta... But yeah, it'll have all that stuff....and several moons, and floating plates of tofu, and dudes with 90 arms, etc, etc...
  4:22pm
glenn:

and he's wearing really big aviator sunglasses and looking down at us and laughing.
  4:23pm
Carmichael:

Yay, Ian Hunter!
  4:24pm
Ralph:

Is this song about the seats on the Titanic?
  4:24pm
Cecile:

I mean that Baizley's anatomy is less exaggerated. But his grody nymph chicks are still pretty scantily clad.
he's the lead singer in Baroness.
  4:25pm
hubba:

gotta love sax crooning!
  4:26pm
Ralph:

Man Gilberto dropped some LSD on this one!
  4:42pm
Ike:

Has the air rushed back into the room?
  4:43pm
blackgreen13:

ah, back. guys had me worried
  4:44pm
BSI:

jeezus. Yr.mother and I were worried SICK.
  4:45pm
hubba:

made it... thought i was going to be shut out
  4:45pm
Stanley:

You're back! Lost you for a while there. Looms, how was the connection where you are?
  4:46pm
Ralph:

Yeah I got bounced too, but we are all aboard - Choo choo
  4:49pm
hubba:

This is nice... i recently discovered Cassell Webb, she has some moments...
  4:49pm
Looms:

Stanley: what Ralph said.
  4:52pm
Ralph:

Man the days are getting shorter and prime for the Winter Solstice. Get your wands and cauldrons ready.
  4:53pm
Ralph:

My song! Reminds me of the days of Alice and the Bensonhurst bus!
  4:57pm
Ralph:

This is rockin'! \m/
  4:58pm
BSI:

ooh. um, yes. this Tamili collection is now a must-must.
  4:59pm
Ralph:

Indeed, my most-initialed fellow.
  5:02pm
Ralph:

Now this is stuff I heard when I was a kid but little did I know it was ART!!!
  5:05pm
hubba:

this track, er Ongaku 70 comp est rad!
  5:05pm
Ralph:

C'est vrai!
  5:08pm
Ralph:

Damn I missed this guy on the Livenation tour.
  5:10pm
Ralph:

If Zappa and Iron Butterfly had a baby.
  5:11pm
glenn:

oh god, perish the thought.
  5:32pm
Don Martin:

@LockGroove: Exactly.
  5:35pm
Cecile:

@BSI, remember that game with the machine gun jetpack I was raving about a while back?
  5:37pm
Ralph:

So how did this evening end for Nat?
  5:53pm
Marmalade Kitty:

love this by Art Yard
  5:56pm
Cecile:

  5:58pm
Scott W:

  6:01pm
Cecile:

  5:39pm
Marie:
