  9:17am fಠ.fಠ:

Oh, wow. Didn't noticed main Gif. I was reading about two of the movies this guy filmed (guessing that's a gif for Audition). Which one should I watch for this Helloween? Gozu? Visitor Q? Suggestions for films that go along this great music we are listening now?

  9:26am 3706:

My number is small. I'm hoping size doesn't matter.
  9:26am Brian in UK:

Ken, is there any mileage in sending out post card reminders about the Record Fair abroad? It winds me up because I cannot attend & seems to be a waste of money, albeit a relatively small expense.
  9:27am Douglas:

You're welcome Satan. I don't have a 1st born so I had to make a pledge instead.
  9:27am larry:

Make it reign Ken.

  9:32am Brian in UK:

Well the Canadians amongst you will just have to be the judges of that.
  9:33am fಠ.fಠ:

  9:33am Stevel:

I too have a romantic affinity for the deceased
  9:43am larry:

that's bound to be a dead end relationship
  9:43am fಠ.fಠ:

larry,

Larry is an epic saga about a hardcore fan that turned himself into a professional DJ. Look for the Larry tape recordings in Ken's archives for more info.
  9:43am paul:

  9:44am glenn:

alice is also a republican, which begs the question - wouldn't y'all rather have him for president than rick perry or michelle bachmann or whichever raving crazy wingnut they choose?
  9:44am Bison Quest:

Hey there, these Gifs are great! I'm DJ'ing at a Halloween night here in dear old Blighty! ANy chance I can nick 'em?
  9:44am BSI:

  9:45am fಠ.fಠ:

larry,

From an atomist point of view, there's no death at all. And if that is all that there is, then let's keep dancing. Let's break out the booze and have a ball.
  9:45am glenn:

i'm a non bity canadian, but let me ask my cats.
  9:46am Brian in UK:

In London, the young Paul Grahame lives with his upper class but financially broken family. His wasteful mother Hester Grahame is a compulsive buyer, spending all the family money on new expensive dresses, jewels and objects for their home. His father Richard Grahame is a gambler, losing money in the horse races. His uncle Oscar Cresswell is permanently covering the Grahame family debts. When the servant Bassett is hired, Paul finds that he can predict the winner of the horse races by rocking his wooden horse. Paul asks Bassett to become his partner. The two of them bet their money on the races. Paul wants to prove that he is lucky in order to silence the house, which perpetually whispers to him that it needs more money.
  9:48am pierre:

whoa checking in super late today, sorry.

Bonjour Ken,
Bonjour los listeners !
  9:48am glenn:

that sounds like the plot of a trollope novel.
  9:48am trssh:

@BSI I think it depends on whether it's a summer loper chomp or a full-on frost bite
  9:49am Sam:

This is great today! Go Ken with the creepy voice acting.
  9:49am Cecile:

hi, all!
  9:49am Brian in UK:

The house needs more money. REALLY.
  9:50am fಠ.fಠ:

  9:51am fಠ.fಠ:

hi, Cecile, Pierre! Welcome to the House of Soundly Horrors
  9:52am still b/p:

Glad you're Nosferatuning in!
  9:54am Cecile:

here's the scariest song i've heard - Without Sound by Kenny Larkin. He posits, in a careful and logical way, that without music the whole universe is doomed. (Your opinion on techno may not jive with his, but the logic is generally sound.)
  9:54am Brian in UK:

Anyone seen the Station Manager?
  9:55am Cecile:

My vote is still for Eric B for President.
  9:55am other david:

I fear Home Depot guy may be exacting his revenge as we speak and remain alert: http://bit.ly/o5SqMa
  9:56am pierre:

The head-gif is from "Audition" right ?
if yes, this is one of the scariest thing i've seen on a screen.
  9:57am T-Zero:

Brian, he's been taken over by William Berger
  9:57am BSI:

Black Pentecost: finally, lyrics I can get behind.
  9:57am Cecile:

Here tis:

You're welcome, America.

I'm such a sucker for house/techno with a breathy male voiceover.
  9:58am Sam:

The zombies are coming!! Seal the cemeteries!
  9:59am T-Zero:

piere, you ever watched Anatomie?
  9:59am Luke:

hello all. is Ken keeping it "real"?
  10:00am fಠ.fಠ:

pierre,

Yes, I also think that's taken from Audition. By the way, any good classic horror french cult film you could suggest to watch this Helloween?
  10:00am Pulpio:

Tannis, anyone?
  10:03am Cecile:

I'm not huge on scary movies. There has to be a humor or suspense element. I hate gore unless it's completely fake like Machete or Zombieland.
  10:03am Sam:

Speaking of Mia Farrow - You know what Tutankhamen said when he found out he would be the next leader of egypt -
"Me? A pharaoh?"
  10:03am Brian C.:

song from "V" section in 3…2…
  10:04am Zombie:

Really, you're overreacting.
  10:05am Vivian:

Hi Cecile-oh, how I love Machete! We saw it three times at the drive-in.
  10:06am fಠ.fಠ:

It would be awesome if Ken would hijack a silent horror film with his Dj skills and soundbites. It'd be like watching the Nosferatu original film with the Type O Negative soundtrack only 100 times better/interesting.
  10:06am pierre:

@ fಠ.fಠ: i don't know, us french are not famous for fantastic movies, althought i could always recommend "La Féline" by J. Tourneur, and this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pack_(2010_film) (i've not seen it, but i'm curious about it…) you can find some more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:French_horror_films

@ T-Zero: nope, i've heard about it though… is it any good?
  10:08am Stevel:

The Residents: Creepier than a rotting fox!
  10:08am 85% dc pat:

I'm with Cecile, like the Blob, or..I actually saw Frankenstein from beginning to end the other day and it's a pretty typical 30's Hollywood film, EXCEPT for Karloff who is insanel
  10:09am Jim:

I didn't know that King Missile put out anything after Failure. I love The Boy Who Was Made of Bone China.
  10:09am Cecile:

Vivian, I want it for Christmas. I've seen it three times as well.
  10:09am Guy Fawkes:

I've been rotting away for years.
  10:09am still b/p:

I've only seen the first several minutes of Machete, but that's enough to catch a handful of decapitations and unexpected cellphone storage.
  10:09am T-Zero:

Yes, it is, thought not a feat as far as cinematography goes. The plot alone is scary. The fact that most of the male actors resemble each other also makes it more difficult as a who dunit
  10:10am fಠ.fಠ:

Strange song, Cecile. That one from the electro-house man guy.
  10:11am Freaks:

Gooble Gobble One of Us We Accept Her!
  10:11am fಠ.fಠ:

thanks, Pierre, I'm gonna check it out.

OH, I was just thinking about the creepy laughters at the end of this waltz! They say they used this song to start their concerts. Wow.
  10:11am annie:

i'm only here for the gifs
  10:11am Cecile:

I love it. Marshall Jefferson's Mushrooms is even stranger.
  10:12am Cecile:

sbp, to paraphrase a popular campaign, it gets even better.
Insanely better.
  10:13am Bison Quest:

MARTYRS is supposed to be good, speaking of French Horror.
  10:13am Bison Quest:

Also, Celine and Julie Go Boating is a classic.
  10:14am Cecile:

I think Ran is pretty terrifying.
Not because of horror, but because of the toxic family relations.
  10:15am 85% dc pat:

Say, that's a really crooked finger...
  10:16am fಠ.fಠ:

pierre,

yes Cat People! I saw that one when I was a child. The second most beautiful woman in the history of the cinema stars that movie.
  10:16am BSI:

but hey, ZOMBIE LAKE was a French film, no?
  10:17am glenn:

ellen barkin's in cat people?
  10:18am Brian in UK:

fಠ.fಠ: back to Nosferatu, he was her dad.
  10:18am Cecile:

I like watching the Nightmare before Christmas.
  10:18am pierre:

yeah BSI, and FOFO, "Le lac des morts vivants" is great, all of Jean Rollin's movies are pretty cool in terms of french horror/soft erotism (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Rollin)
  10:18am Jim:

I think fಠ.fಠ means Simone Simon.
  10:18am fಠ.fಠ:

Pierre,
Of course I got confused with the 1982 movie with the same name. ^_^
  10:19am clueless in Mi:

pierre: Nastasha Kinski?
  10:20am Cecile:

Ken, I hope you get a nap in sometime today.
You sounds as unhinged as a sliding door.

You can't get really good fresh-squeezed possum anymore.

You are not, "clueless"! The hottest women in cinema:
1st Monica Vitti
2nd Natasha Kinski!
  10:21am Carmichael:

Good morning Kenneth and midweekers.
  10:21am BSI:

Pretty much ANY zombie film made prior to 1982 is GREAT. All of them. Even the terrible ones are great, particularly ones from Europe. Zombie Lake is one of the great/terrible/great ones. Something to be proud of...
  10:22am fಠ.fಠ:

Exactly! Klaus Kinsky was her dad. But I haven't seen that version.
  10:22am Cecile:

I love the original Cat People.
  10:23am clueless in Mi:

twas "erotic"
  10:23am Irish McCalla:

I'm hotter than either of them.
  10:25am Bad Ronald:

Morning!

I love Mad Monster Party. Francesca is hot!
  10:25am 85% dc pat:

#1. Vampya
#2 Lillian Gish
  10:25am Cecile:

if they made a movie called "Bernese Mountain Dog People" I would be a shoo-in for the lead.
  10:26am Mark:

I knew Winnie the Pooh was a Satanist!
  10:26am Cecile:

it would be a horror thriller about possessed dog-drawn Swiss milk carts.
  10:26am Brian in UK:

Monica could not act but that did not matter one jot.

My vote is for Briggitte Fossey especially in Le Grand Meaulnes
http://abbracciepopcorn.blogspot.com/2009/02/ritratti-di-signore-brigitte-fossey.html
  10:27am pierre:

@ Ken : does a "horror show" would feature a Cramps song? or is it too "téléphoné"?

@ BSI: when i discovered Lucio Fulci, my movie life took another turn…
@ FOFO: both version are worth seeing to me, even if i like the "NOIR" taste of Tourneur better
  10:27am 85% dc pat:

"Vampyra" but you knew that.
  10:27am fಠ.fಠ:

Talking about terror movies and hotties...What about that film with Chesty Morgan where she kills pretenders with her gigantic (real) boobs?
  10:28am Detroit Mac:

A touch of: MR BLUE
by TOM PAXTON
would be appropriate here
  10:31am 85% dc pat:

love the Psychic TV stuff..inspiring
  10:31am BSI:

@Pierre: no doubt the Italians did the best zombies. Bruno Mattei as well (Hell of the Living Dead, anyone?)
@Cecile: swiss milk carts are terrifying enough already!

Holy crap, that sounds nuts.
Kids, do not keep exotic animals as pets. Oy.

Is Jersey City a nice place to live? What are rents like? I might move there.
  10:48am Ken:

Professor Dum Dum Rules.
  10:50am Cecile:

we will have to agree to disagree on both Wilco and Professor Dum Dum.
  10:51am annie:

cecile, i'm in your corner..
  10:54am Ken:

I cannot agree to disagree. But I can agree to not give a shit.
  10:55am Cecile:

That works for me. Perfectly.
  10:57am Nate in Detroit:

Loving the Halloween show, Ken! My favorite holiday. Speaking of which, any FMU'ers coming to (or heard of) the Theatre Bizarre Halloween party in Detroit this weekend? Will be my 4th time this year. Can't wait! http://theatrebizarre.com/

  11:14am Ken:

Normally Satan only thanks people who pledge but I will ask him if he can make an exception for you Aaron.
  11:14am PW:

This is the best radio program I have ever heard. I heard 10 seconds of Deicide mixed in there after the Nurse with Wound. So awesome.
  11:15am giselle:

  11:15am Vivian:

Did the Purposeful lady say 'All I want is peace and a hamburger'?

  11:18am Cecile:

  11:18am George of Troy:

Whenever I play this Ashley piece at home, my wife asks me to turn it off.
  11:18am S.O.Hobo:

"It was awkward for him"?! This whole thing is awkward!
  11:19am Vivian:

@ Viele- In a sea of cubicles, I've learned to keep Ken's show on low volume,
  11:19am Sam:

You should play a loop of "comma zero, comma zero" behind this
  11:20am Ken:

My college radio station got in big trouble for playing this piece.
  11:20am annie:

oddly enough, i prefer this over the pron for the blind thing..
  11:20am Dan B From Upstate:

I'm... having a really hard time working right now...
  11:21am Cecile:

George, I know how she feels.
  11:21am PMD:

@Ken, I'm not surprised. I had to turn it low.
  11:21am kated:

I have a very high tolerance for the annoying and weird, but this is making me nuts!! Please change tracks!!
  11:21am jan:

Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon - if only someone- maybe Katy Perry would cover this song- the lyrics are great, but the tune is a bit somber.
  11:22am Ricardo Montalban:

Creepy show, Ken!
  11:22am PMD:

@annie, I never heard that one... I'll have to listen to compare.
  11:22am Vivian:

Oh Ken, I thought about Phil's Baby the other day!! It's so creepy!
  11:22am Dan B From Upstate:

Then there's this girl... The creepy music in the background just makes it great.
  11:23am annie:

imho, it's awful
  11:23am Sam:

This is HOT!
  11:23am Detroit Mac:

this always reminds me of my tape romance with K C Wozencraft in 1968
  11:24am Cecile:

I think that Robert Ashley piece is genius, and I only needed to hear it once and I never need to hear it again. It had its intended effect. Very chilling.
  11:24am Timmay:

it's deliciously disturbing... can't stop listening...
  11:24am hubba:

Good morning everyone!

Is this Shelley Duvall?
  11:25am Cecile:

it's like Pan's Labyrinth. A great movie that I never fucking need to see again.
  11:25am annie:

i think that's the first time i've heard (almost) the whole thing.... yes timmay, that's it!!
  11:26am Sam:

If you listen to this too much you can lose your sanity, and the problem with sanity is that once you lose it, it's REALLY hard to get it back.
  11:27am Mark:

sanity is overrated
  11:27am glenn:

cynthia lydell is the woman in the robert ashley piece.
  11:27am hubba:

No, this is more like Laura Dern...
  11:28am Detroit Mac:

Pardon me, your teeth are in my neck...
  11:29am still b/p:

"'My instructions [to friends] were simple: just describe a sequence of events, without any moral or psychological interpretation of those events, but include your sensory perceptual role in the events.'
Ashley found all submissions unsatisfactory and subjective, and he wrote this one himself."
  11:29am Cecile:

Oh, vampire killers. Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate. Happy times.
  11:29am glenn:

david beckham is overrated. sanity is a good thing.
  11:29am Listenerine:

Sanity has zero market valuation.
  11:29am cglenn:

ken's the bomb
  11:30am Timmay:

Imagine spooning with her, then her gouging your eyes out with spoons
  11:30am George of Troy:

@ Hubba: Agreed. I thought it was an excerpt from Wild at Heart when it started.
  11:30am Ricardo Montalban:

The Phil's Baby thing reminded me of Twin Peaks and the doomed Laura Palmer, but perhaps I am being overly nostalgic
  11:30am Brian in UK:

Really found the Greek chorus sound effective appearing occasionally as if to comment or chide in the background of the Robert Ashley piece.
  11:31am Mark:

what is sanity?
  11:31am Thelma:

The worst horror is that the pledge line isn't moving and WFMU may have to spend winter in Zuccotti Park.
  11:31am Nate in Detroit:

@hubba @george of troy - I was thinking the same thing
  11:32am OM:

I think Cutting a Chicken was one of the first tracks I've ever heard on WFMU.
  11:34am AnAnonymousParty:

Do you have 'cutting the cheese'?
  11:34am Brian in UK:

He got Marty Feldman's eyes. Pan's Labyrinth again, Cecile?
  11:35am glenn:

sanity is.......... good brain chemistry. nothing more, nothing less.
  11:35am hubba:

@ G of T & N in D- I try and listen to something more objectively, if that is possible, but David Lynch has forever imprinted my brain with a certain cinematic audio aesthetic... although, Ken seems to bring out something almost entriely different with his selections, so kudos for making me fear my co-workers this morning!
  11:35am Cecile:

I know.
I shut up about it now. eeegh.
  11:36am Mark:

but is not sanity subjective?
  11:36am Brian in UK:

@AnAnonymousParty No but we got cutting the mustard
  11:37am Kim Carnes:

..... She's got Marty Feldman's eyes.
  11:37am Sargent Dick:

That's muster to you, private!!
  11:38am Brian in UK:

Hey glenn has this programme got a sanity clause?
  11:39am Chico:

There ain't no Sanity Clause!
  11:39am Chico:

you can't fool me there ain't no sanity clause
  11:40am hubba:

He's makng a list...
Checking it twice...
Gonna find out who's naughty or nice...
  11:41am glenn:

i'm pretty sure that if it did, we'd all be on double secret probation.
  11:43am Dan B From Upstate:

For some reason, the Patton Oswalt bit about playing the chipmunks record at 33 rpm pops in to my memory today...
  11:43am Robert:

No hypnotic dog yet?
  11:44am Brian in UK:

Is that stealth prohibition?
Was Nipper the Hip-notic dog for HMV?
  11:45am Viele Bunte Autos:

WFMU should do a permanent weekly show down at Zuccotti, I say
  11:45am ?:

just pledged, Ken, but I did so solely for the gifs. I can't remember the last time I logged in and actually listened to your show! ;)
  11:45am glenn:

i thought nipper was the rca dog, no?
  11:46am Brian in UK:

We love you whole-heartedly.
Think twas HIS Masters Voice.
  11:48am Robert:

What'd they do, curse in Englsh?
  11:49am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Hi your darkness
  11:49am Purposeful DJ Slow Morning:

The language pushed my knickers down....
  11:50am pierre:

Cromagnon is a strange and (kind) of creepy band as well… just sayin'
  11:50am BSI:

crazy uncle Al...!
  11:51am Brass Knuckles:

Thinking ahead. Show to replay on Halloween, chase the rascals away..
  11:51am annie:

so, it's really cool to read fb comments and playlist comments........ a morphing occurs..
  11:53am Aaron in Minneapolis:

By the way Mr. Satan, when is a man named Andy Breckman entering your rhelm
  11:53am Dan B From Upstate:

I've been wondering for a little while now... what's the origin of the phrase, "Oh, Spiderman!" in the satan voice?
  11:54am Aaron in Minneapolis:

He always is telling people to go to it anyways, I just wanna know
  11:55am Detroit Mac:

Is our Fearless Leader going to leave us on a down note?
  11:56am Tyler:

Dang! I think I missed my name being said in demon voice. I hate when work gets in the way of my listening!
  11:56am BSI:

some of the best notes are way the hell down...
  11:58am Brian in UK:

Looking forward to the three hour single next week.
  11:58am S.O.Hobo:

Mr. Tooth Decay is always scary!
  11:59am Detroit Mac:

Aloha from Hell
  11:59am Cecile:

all of these are scary. But brushing prevents them, so brushing is not scary. It's happy!
  12:00pm Dan B From Upstate:

Is the devil sitting on Ken's shoulder right now?
  12:02pm Cecile:

aw, now I are embarrassed.
  10:33pm Antoine Dodson:
