This is beyond a NY market. This is worldwide. I'm a douche bag in Michigan, and there is good radio in Michigan, WCBN is amazing, WDET is on point, but WFMU is at whole new level. Pour this station some money, it's truly unique. Give the money, so worth it.
  1:35am
Holly in NC:

@Matt - Dr. Seuss lover. And currently not using my master's degree in health admin to tutor & babysit, dogsit, catsit, yomamasit, whatever. Loving it!

Hey Matt! Doing my taxes, that's how it's going ....
  1:37am
Destroit:

Hello Mario! Welcome.
  1:37am
Matt from Springfield:

@Holly: Wish you stable, full employment soon, but at least you're having fun with Dr. Seuss (and WFMU!) in the meantime. I'm a fan of ol' Theodore's work myself.
  1:38am
Matt from Springfield:

Carm: It's March, I gotta get on the ball with those myself. Deducting WFMU donations (minus swag received) gives a grain of satisfaction to the whole process.

Oooh, is that an original first printing 45 of this Jimmy Cliff? Nice find! You can get it if you really want it! ;D

Also glad last week's pocket-size Single File has been expanded into at least a Value size Single File this week!
  1:45am
Holly in NC:

@Destroit makes an excellent point. I'm fortunate enough to live an area with not 1 but 2 really, really good-great college radio stations - but 'fmu is a whole 'nother beast. And think of all the folks who don't have local options!
  1:46am

Still laying B, holly, I explored your triangle radio stations the best I could, NCSU won the prize (despite some horrid dubstep/trance bullshit on Tuesday night).
  1:53am
Brian en Angleterre:

david as the song goes 'You Don't Miss Your Water 'Till Your Well Runs Dry'. We are so spoiled here on this station with innovation and development taken as normal. There are no laurels to rest on here. So support, support, support.

  1:57am

Quickly, whats the difference between a porpoise and a dolphin?
  1:58am
Holly in NC:

@Destroit - KNC (NCSU) NOT on my list. But neither XDU (Duke) or XYC (UNC) serve Raleigh well. You were in the wrong part of the triangle!
  1:59am
Heartbreak0r:

The man I'm dumping says he really likes this song!!
  2:00am
KP:

Did i hear a porpoise sing?

Thanks for the demo, Joe!

What's the difference between a buffalo & a bison?
  2:06am
Joshua K:

A buffalo is the american version of a bison.
  2:07am
Brian en Angleterre:

You can't wash your hands in a buffalo!!!
  2:07am
KP:

The Monkees did do that on that last tour, as i remember JB saying.

Think I better go now.
  2:08am

You CAN rollerskate in a bison herd.
  2:08am
Holly in NC:

Also porpoises are less adaptive to captivity - born to be wild - yeah small, stout rebel porpoises!
  2:08am

Yeah! Breasts! Miniskirts! Theories! This show has it all! Pledge till it hurts!

@Destroit......I was trying to think of a witty & clean yet mildly risque triangle-3way joke, but no can do. Tired. Anyone else?
  2:22am
mike noble in dc:

hmmm... pledges must be backed up. i swore i'd get in on that last mic break.
  2:25am

Haha, no need for clean. Real talk! This quasi bluegrass music is great.
  2:26am
mike noble in dc:

bluegrass didn't emerge as a distinct form until after world war 2

@Mike in D.C. Point me at bluegrass history?
  2:30am

I grew up on bill Monroe, circa 1978, dancing in diapers.

mike noble in dc:

@Rich - I seem to have only absorbed that info by osmosis. I can't point you to anything specific unfortunately.

@Destroit & @Rich - what do you think, would a bio of bill monroe be a good place to start, since he's the father of the genre?
  2:36am
Brian en Angleterre:

Rich Old Timey was one name given to early styles, but in them thar days I guess they were less concerned in categories like we seem to be nowadays.

@ mike noble, wikiPedia bluegrass and ride my man, nobody is going to give you better guidance if you want to explore the genre. Modern bluegrass, listen to the Steeldrivers.

Brian en Angleterre:

Harry Smiths Anthology is a good starting point. All taken from singles 1927 - 1933 at a time when record companies would arrive in town and record whoever pitched up.

I like hearing Joe say "kitty." But now I want to hear him say "kit and caboodle." If he uses that phrase I will make another pledge. I'll add a $5 gratuity if he manages to get "pajama" in the same sentence.

if youns haven't seen it, i highly recommend the joe bussard doc DESPERATE MAN BLUES. if you're not content just listening to those old 78s compiled, but also want to learn about the eccentric guy who's the most renowned collector of the stuff. also if you are in the maryland vicinity, i hear the guy welcomes all visitors to his basement record library.

I missed the last prize drawing by a minute, but I'm still going to have a big mound of swag. Productive marathon this year, very close to the goal.
