Joe McG:

Hey, Looms!
  12:24am
G:

Did they lift this solo from CCR's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am
Joe McG:

Hey, G--Maybe! They usually lifted from the Temptations, but given their producer, that's less surprising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am
Joe McG:

Hooray! Off for only one week and I forgot how to do everything!
  12:29am
12539:

uh oh.
  12:29am
G:

I got curious. That Spinners track was from the same album as the big hit "Then Came You" with Dionne Warwick on vocals...
  12:30am
Equipment:

Gotcha! :)
  12:31am
Destroit:

Haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am

Damn equipment! It always makes me do things wrong.

After I've watched the sun going out, i've read your comment and I'm very disappointed, Joe! :D
Going to bed, bye all!

Chop Scott:

JOE!
Cheers to the good son with that opening set...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
Joe McG:

Thanks, CS. I resisted going on with it. EWF's "Mom" is a gem. I kind of like the Supremes' "Living in Shame," too. Well, maybe another time!
  1:22am
Joe D.:

Hey Joe I got a requisition form for some ductwork here... the lack of response to my previous inquiries has got me pretty peeved... I already filed them twice... in triplicate...
  1:22am
Matt from Springfield:

Whew! Made it in time for Single File! AND Texas Bohemia, love that comp! How ya doin', Joe and everybody?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am
Joe McG:

@Duffy: Do you need me to make some calls?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am
Joe McG:

@Matt: I'm doin' alright, still recovering from my death-defying illness...
  1:26am
Matt from Springfield:

With General Cranberry, illness won't know what hit it! :)
  1:28am
Joe D.:

yeah! Call Archibald Tuttle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am
Joe McG:

@Joe: No problem, I'll call the boys and they'll pay a personal visit. @Matt: I've had Cranberry in my house all week but the germs are anarchists.
  1:34am
Matt from Springfield:

Shango--sounds a bit like Mouth & McNeal,
I had thought the band was "Django".

@Joe: Nuclear option--Cranberry-Nyquil cocktail!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am
Joe McG:

Wow, Matt, that sounds great! I used to be addicted to Nyquil. Slept like a baby for a full year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
Joe McG:

Caution: Millie alert!
  1:41am
Matt from Springfield:

Boom! Millie swoops in, with a spoken intro too!
(Love is a *fire*, don't smother it into smoke...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am
Joe McG:

This song was originally on "Caught Up": on one side Millie is the wife and on the other she's the "other woman."
  1:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, earlier version of that Eagles song.
Wasn't aware that's how Millie divided "Caught Up"--she has played both the wife and other woman before, but that's a creative way to divide a record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am
Joe McG:

Boy, am I a stoop--I didn't even know the Eagles recorded it. The version I know is by Dolly P.!
  1:49am
king penguin:

Mostly if not all acapella.
  1:53am
Matt from Springfield:

As with "Dazed and Confused" (Led Zep~Jake Holmes) and even "First Cut Is The Deepest" (Rod Stewart~Cat Stevens), many times the hit isn't the one by the original writer/singer.
  1:54am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi KP!
(Whenever I see your moniker, I think of Syd Barrett, singing not "I'm A King Bee", but "I'm A King Penguin" instead)
  1:55am
Matt from Springfield:

OH HELL YEAH!!!
"Leader of the Pack" may be the Shangri-Las *best* song, I think this is their *finest* song (best arrangements, vocals).
  1:56am
Matt from Springfield:

ORIGINAL 45 too! "Red Bird" label, still sounds AMAZING!
  1:56am
king penguin:

Yeah but Led Zepplin flat out stole Dazed and Confused, and a lot of other things. Stewart just covered Cat Stevens, although Dylan successfully sued him for Forever Young.
  1:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Zeppelin's MO was to flat out steal songs from other people. I remember first hearing Jake Holmes version and being astounded how blatant that one was.
  1:59am
king penguin:

i'll gladly accept any mention of Syd Barrett and my nom de plume in same context.
  1:59am
Matt from Springfield:

Anton Karas! I always confused this with the "Third Man Theme", which is slightly different, but wow, that's the same composer! Variation on his other zither song.
  2:01am
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, The Adventures of Harry Lime, a radio "prequel" to The Third Man, also starring Orson Welles. I guess they altered the theme slightly.

"Most episodes would begin with "The Third Man Theme" being played, abruptly cut off by an echoing gunshot."
  2:09am
oogoo:

court teel u road
  2:10am
Matt from Springfield:

Court Teel U FMU...
  2:15am
Matt from Springfield:

"Arabian Garage Psych Nuggets from the 60s and Early 70s"!?!?!
Ali Baba and His 40 Records?!?
That sounds fake! Like the parody of a FMU selection! :)

Sounds splendidly awesome though!
  2:18am
Matt from Springfield:

A++ to The Trypes, they may be the only group to have covered "The Inner Light".
  2:20am
king penguin:

the Trypes are a Tryp.
  2:27am
Brian in UK:

Hello Joe. Sunshine & blue skies for a second day. Just fed our cat with the thyroid problem.
  2:28am
Matt from Springfield:

Thought this sounded familiar! Thanks for this cozy, groovy track. Thanks for this entire cozy, groovy set as a matter of fact.
  2:28am
Matt from Springfield:

Good sunny morning, Brian!
  2:32am
Brian in UK:

Good day to you Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am
Joe McG:

@Matt: Thanks, Matt! @Brian: Sorry to hear your cat has a thyroid problem. If it makes you feel any better, so do I!
  2:34am
Brian in UK:

Yes Joe but you do not try to wake me up at 5 o'clock to be fed!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35am
Joe McG:

Ha ha!
  2:37am
Brian in UK:

Great to see you had some zither action earlier. Was it Michael Rennie in the TV series?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am
Joe McG:

That's a stumper, Brian. I didn't know there was a Third Man series. I've only ever seen the film.
  2:44am
Brian in UK:

To be honest all you need is the film but something in the dusty recesses where spiders play tripped a memory. More tea I think. Nice set.
  2:46am
clarke:

3rd Man was a radio series - orson welles, produced and acted in - under a contract - as Harry Lime. they are very good.
  2:47am
Matt from Springfield:

This demo is excellent quality as is
(though needs tons more cowbell...)
  2:48am
clarke:

welles was short on money and had to 'whore himself out' on the radio to be able to finance some of the films he wanted to make..
  2:49am
clarke:

and i lost my viginity to Don't Fear The Reaper (the long version, ha ha).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am
Joe McG:

@Matt: One of the members was on Diane's show this week talking about cowbell. @Clarke: Ha ha ha!
  2:50am
clarke:

yea -- the whole thing started and ended -- crazy middle part and all...ha ha ha.
  2:51am
Joe B.:

Duck Dunn RIP
  2:51am
P-90:

Never caught this BOC demo before. So different from the album version that hit so big (with plenty of cowbell), but they knew what they were after. The tempo is identical to the final arrangement, the essence of the final version is all there. Fun to hear the process.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am
Joe McG:

@Joe B: Oh, no! Now I know what the last song will be...
  2:52am
clarke:

my (younger) friend has everyone beat: he lost his virginity to Accidents Will Happen..
  2:52am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe B: Nooooooooooo!!
Another RIP, farewell to Donald "Duck" Dunn. Booker T and the MGs. Blues Brothers. We miss you.
  2:54am
clarke:

oh man, i am friends with Duck's niece, melissa dunn -- memphis songwriter/musician. will have to get in touch...damn.
  2:55am
P-90:

Glad I caught the MG's last time they were in town. These guys all seem too young to be dropping like flies.
  2:56am
Brian in UK:

Sad.
  3:00am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Joe, we'll get a tribute next time. Hope you're feeling 100% better by then.
See you all later!
