Listener comments!

  12:07am
Matt from Springfield:

Became saddened when I heard that song come on; Robin Gibb was very sick for a while, and has now passed beyond the ether. Thanks for (yet another) tribute.
  12:07am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Robin and Donna were a huge part of the soundtrack of my life during my grade school years. I'm sad to see them go. Eff you, cancer.
  12:08am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Good evening/morning, Therese. :)

Hello Matt.
  12:09am
Matt from Springfield:

What year is the Times Square soundtrack from?

Hello BGZ!
Avatar 12:12am
Therese:

Hi BGZ and MfS- Eff you cancer, is right!!!
  12:12am
G:

"Times Square is a 1980 film starring Trini Alvarado, Robin Johnson, and Tim Curry. The plot of the film essentially embodies a punk rock ethic - misunderstood youth forming a band and, through music, articulating their frustrations toward adult authority, personified in the film as parents, the medical establishment, and politicians."
  12:14am
Matt from Springfield:

Hmm, Tim Curry.
In any case that song was pretty good, though not exactly punk rock. Unless, you're counting the early 90s TV album "Punk!"
  12:15am
G:

"The movie features a soundtrack of punk rock and New Wave music with a wide range of artists including The Ramones, The Cure, XTC, Lou Reed, Gary Numan, Talking Heads, Suzi Quatro, Roxy Music, Robin Gibb & Marcy Levy, Patti Smith and The Pretenders."
  12:16am
Droll:

Matt, You're thinking of Adam Curry.
Avatar 12:16am
Therese:

Lately, that early 90's TV album "Punk" has come up in conversation far more often than it should.
  12:18am
Matt from Springfield:

I swear, Therese, I walked into that link, and now I can't get those people out of my head! When I sleep I see them, putting on wigs and trying to sell me non-punk products...
  12:19am
Matt from Springfield:

Was it Liz Berg who first rediscovered that link?
  12:19am
Bob in DC and/or Virginia:

Greetings, Therese! Getting a really strong eighth grade graduation party vibe so far tonight.
Avatar 12:19am
Therese:

Liz, or possibly John Allen?
  12:20am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Allan Moyle didn't make another film for a decade: "Pump Up The Volume" starring Christian Slater and Samantha Mathis. He also directed "Empire Records" and the VH1 movie "Man In The Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story."

And yes...I seem to have been stumbling across that "Punk" ad a lot in the past couple of weeks.
Avatar 12:20am
Therese:

Thanks, Bob. My work here is done...
  12:20am
Martha:

Was gonna make a comment about Suzi Quatro and punk/new wave but I think I should quit while I'm ahead -
  12:22am
KP:

I ordered "Punk." very excited. Kama Kama Chameleon!
  12:22am
Ace in Al Ain, UAE:

@Bob in DC... Yeah, I've made out with two girls already, and 7 in Heaven hasn't even started yet.
  12:23am
Matt from Springfield:

@KP: Rush Delivery and COD available.

Hey Ace, still in the UAE? When are you moving back?
  12:25am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

<singing> I'm on a yacht
I'm on a yacht
Take a good hard look at the mothereffing yacht! </singing>
  12:29am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I bet this song has a laser whip solo.
  12:30am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Matt: Does anybody still offer COD? I chuckle whenever I order something and it says COD is not available.
  12:31am
G:

"Notice: COD only available in 1947. Please check there."
  12:32am
Ace in Al Ain, UAE:

1 month. My wife is already there, and managed to find work, so that's a plus. Meet you at the Bradlick Shopping Center. I assume the Ben Franklin 5 and Dime from 1984 is still there. I'll be in the sewing aisle, pricing McCall's Pattern Books. I'm enjoying all this talk of punk whilst listening to disco.
  12:32am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

O-H

I-O
  12:34am
Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: I guess there's still old people who call and ask if COD is available.

@Ace: See you there. You're really a local time machine! :)
  12:37am
Matt from Springfield:

This is a great comp--I first heard Mary Wing play from this comp, and then found out that whaddaya know, (not surprisingly) Joe McG has played the SINGLE 45 for "Money's Too Tight To Mention" before!
  12:44am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I can't put into words just how much I love LCD! James is starting to do more DJ sets outside of NYC now that "Shut Up And Play The Hits" is going from festival screenings to theatrical release. Adam Yauch's Oscilloscope Laboratories is distributing it.
  12:57am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Stevie Ray Vaughan
  1:01am
Droll:

BGZ, SRV (RIP) on guitar, that's Tony Thompson (RIP) on drums, and this was produced by Nile Rogers (who's very sick now). Another FMU DJ was lamenting that many of our heroes are getting to "that age".
  1:05am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Droll: It's certainly felt that way lately.

I didn't know that Nile has been in poor health. I'm sorry to hear that. The casual listener has no idea how important his role in the history of music has been.
  1:07am
G:

"In January 2011, Rodgers revealed on his website he is fighting cancer, which was diagnosed in October 2010."
  1:10am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

He sounds congested on most of the songs on that album. I think it was lack of confidence in his singing. He really belts it out on "Sounds Of Silver" and "This Is Happening."
  1:11am
Matt from Springfield:

This Upside-Down Bat is rejoicing!!
Thanks for another World Goth Day promo--this has gotten good air time on FMU!
  1:13am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Jaeger is a preferred goth beverage? I had no idea. I always associate it with Slayer's Kerry King (and walking around at Slayer shows with 20-ounce Coca Cola bottles filled with Jaeger).
  1:21am
Mary Wing:

Jeff Sarge in a minute on Monday?!?! WTF?
  1:21am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Will Julie play Disney storybook records to tuck us in at the end of the show?
Avatar 1:22am
Therese:

One minute that I'm sure he will make count, Mary!
  1:23am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

<singing> Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Funkytown </singing>
  1:26am
Mary Wing:

I wish you hadn't mentioned Skyline Chili; the nearest restaurant is 391 miles away. I may die without ever tasting this particular delicacy, heh.
  1:27am
KP:

Where were we?
  1:27am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Klaus!
  1:28am
KP:

Hello, Mary.
  1:29am
Mary Wing:

Howdy; what's shakin', KP?
  1:29am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Mary: If you have a Kroger supermarket in your area they carry Skyline...canned and frozen cube. Go in with low expectations. I was completely underwhelmed by it at a Skyline location. The store bought version is no worse.
  1:31am
Mary Wing:

No Krogers here on the east coast, I think. And I use the term "delicacy" with limited seriousness. :-)
  1:32am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

And speaking of chili...Carroll Shelby, who lent his name to a popular chili making kit sold in stores here in Texas, passed away on May 10. He's best known for creating the Cobra automobiles (the Mustang Cobra in particular).
  1:32am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Mary: I sensed a shred of sarcasm in your comment. :)
  1:34am
Mary Wing:

Cars and chili making kits; he was a real Renaissance man!
Avatar 1:34am
Kenzo (lastever):

Hmm, wow!
  1:34am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

If you haven't seen "The Nomi Song" I can't recommend it highly enough. You can rent it on Amazon for $2.99.
  1:43am
Mary Wing:

Loved The Nomi Song, yep.

Gotta push off to bed; see y'all in the wires!
  1:44am
KP:

Mary, nothing shakin but the leaves on the tree.
  1:45am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Mary: Goodnight, Mary. Have a great week!
  1:45am
KP:

Bu bye!
Avatar 1:46am
Therese:

Goodnight, Mary!!
  2:05am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I forgot about the eclipse. So I watched the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" video. Bombastic Jim Steinman tunes heal the soul.
  2:06am
KP:

Winter's Bone, 5 months. Did eventually watch it.
  2:07am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I'm worse than you, Therese. I've had Disc One of "The Staircase" since November 2010.
  2:08am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Now I know why "Blank City" is listed as "Long Wait" in my Netflix queue. :P
  2:09am
KP:

BGZ. you win.
  2:10am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I think Netflix adds titles to the streaming library based on two things:
1. Somebody has the disc for eternity
2. I get tired of waiting for a title to stream and rent it from Amazon. You can thank me for "Drive" now being available for streaming. :D
  2:17am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

This reminds me of the song played at my Pepa's funeral last year: "I'll Have a New Body (I'll Have a New Life)" by The Statler Brothers.
  2:25am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I'm not all that familiar with Lee Hazlewood's music. I've been digging the tunes you've played over the past few weeks, Therese. Do you have a recommendation for an album to start with? I'm leaning towards "Movin' On" because it has "Hello Saturday Morning" on it. And a semi truck on the cover!
Avatar 2:30am
Therese:

I am partial to to "The Cowboy & the Lady." with Ann-Margret.
  2:36am
KP:

BGZ, whatever you get make sure it has Some Velvet Morning on it. You could work your way up to it by hunting down the Vanilla Fudge version.
  2:36am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

"Ram" reissue?
  2:37am
KP:

Your show goes quicker than anybody's. I guess that's a compliment.
  2:37am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Blerg...you said it while I was doing math.

Billy Preston was the fifth Beatle. Ravi can be the sixth Beatle. :P
  2:41am
KP:

Stu Sutcliffe was literally the fifth Beatle.
  2:42am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I've been debating getting the "Temporary Secretary" re-edit by Radio Slave.
  2:47am
KP:

Best Coast reminds me of band called Haight Ashbury i just came across on FB. HA is from France ithink and sound lot like Bangles. They've been called "Psychedelic ABBA.”
  2:50am
KP:

wow this is great. Who would cover this song? ... The Trypes!
  2:56am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Is this what plays when people go towards the light?
  3:02am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Enjoy your holiday weekend, Therese. See you back here in two weeks. :)
  3:04am
KP:

Adieu!
