Listener comments!

  3:11pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

well hullo there.
  3:13pm
Looms:

Hello there too!
Fabio, your Mr. Giant Man copy sounded a bit overused, maybe you need to get a new one (though, it might be all the storms around fault)
  3:14pm
?:

ok, this Quad just got seriously cool . . .
  3:16pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

it'd be cooler if I had a quadrophonic system at my desk
  3:17pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

or if I was sitting on the Quad in some small liberal arts college getting high with some college girls.
  3:21pm
Some College Girls:

Hey, why not? *Giggle* Should we wear our cutoffs and tube tops?
  3:23pm
Dean Wormer:

That's it. Triple secret probation for everybody. Especially Cecile.
  3:25pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

*imagination runs rampant*
  3:34pm
sfrances:

All hell breaks loose indeed. This Dusty fan tunes in early for Strength Through Failure when I can~
  3:49pm
blee:

This mouth jazz is dynomite, daddy-o.
  3:50pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Charlie Brown's teacher?
  3:50pm
Carmichael:

OK, here now. Hi Fabbie, hi everyone.
  3:51pm
hubba:

how's it hanging everyone?
  3:52pm
BSI:

@hubba: whatever it is, sounds like a massacre!
  3:57pm
?:

Tom Waits wishes he was as good as this guy
  3:57pm
hubba:

What sounds like a massacre?
  4:01pm
BSI:

hanging everyone! Egad!
  4:03pm
hubba:

right over me head I say, right over me head
  4:05pm
hubba:

Just snagged a new pair of headphones from an empty cubicle... Happy Holidays hubba!
  4:09pm
northguineahills:

I wish they were showing High Plains Drifter.
  4:11pm
Mike FUn:

Burt Reynolds is part native american.
  4:13pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

Oh please, nobody who listens to WFMU is up by 10 AM
  4:15pm
BSI:

...mind-altering headphones...!
  4:16pm
Looms:

@Pidgeilante Justice: I wish you were right :)
  4:17pm
Cecile:

What the hell did I do, Dean Wormer? :D

ha, looms, ITA with you.
Avatar 4:17pm
fabio:

High Plains Drifter, though a very good Eastwood movie, is not a Spaghetti Western - it's Hollywood.
  4:19pm
Cecile:

but no Trinity movies....those were supposedly the sleaziest and most amoral of all spaghetti Westerns. I know they used to play forever in our town, and there were always a ton of ads for them on TV.
  4:23pm
hubba:

The Eiger Sanction, right up there with some of his more entertaining films... art historian who is a world-class mountain climber doubles as a hitman that likes to be paid in expesnive works of art. Goes from super cheese into intense action sequence... recommended!
  4:25pm
Carmichael:

You can almost summon High Plains Drifter at will on DirecTV. That and Outlaw Josey Wales are ALWAYS on.
  4:28pm
SVen:

Are we deep yet?
  4:28pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

check
  4:29pm
BSI:

we deep.
  4:30pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

eyeball deep
  4:30pm
Carmichael:

way deep.
  4:30pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

Poll: Which WFMU DJ's show inspires the most illicit drug use?
  4:31pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

they're more of a symptom than a cause
  4:31pm
Dill:

JM in the AM -- I can't get through that w/o a heavy laudanum
  4:32pm
SVen:

How about which show most closely mimics the effects of heavy drug use?
  4:34pm
BSI:

.......deeper...................
  4:35pm
Mike Fun:

Nardwaur with cough syrup, Clay pidgeon with cheap beer, Bryce with pseudoephedrine, and this show dead sober.
  4:35pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

I feel like if I were locked in a dark room and wearing a blindfold while listening to Fabio's show, it would spur full-blown psychosis within 3 hours.
  4:35pm
Cecile:

Billy Jam, hands down.
  4:36pm
Cecile:

that's the DJ that inspires illicit drug use. Because he is a big ol stoner hisself....
  4:36pm
Dill:

PJ - I'd feel that way denied Fabio's!
  4:37pm
Looms:

d@_@b
(ps: music is THE drug)
  4:38pm
Cecile:

fabio is like the time I saw Alice Coltrane stone cold sober. It's wholesome yet hallucinogenic.
  4:38pm
Mike East:

I'm gonna have to go with Cecile on that one.
  4:39pm
Carmichael:

I saw WKRP sober once. It was boring.
  4:39pm
hubba:

yeah, there are some suggestive shows, most, Ken makes me feel pretty doped-up, but hands down Failure delivers the goods more often than not... if I had the ability to trip again, I'd want Fabio in the vision quest navigation chair....
  4:40pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

@Mike

I have a hard time placing Clay's show. It has to be the alcoholic/drug equivalent of an esoteric guilty pleasure
  4:41pm
Cecile:

Oh, it's Boone's Farm in a Midwestern parking lot in 1977.
  4:43pm
Mike Fun:

PBR's in the back yard with the slightly nerdy but cool uncle I never had.
  4:45pm
Carmichael:

TJ Swann behind an Ohio Dairy Queen on Friday night.
  4:45pm
Cecile:

It's like seeing the Guess Who with no original members in 1979, but you dont' care because since it's an actual social event with people, you got out of babysitting for once.
  4:46pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

haha, I think the Guess Who and Steppenwolf was like my 2nd concert ever, we're talking about 1985 I think. I remember hippies trying to sell us acid in the parking lot for $2.
  4:47pm
Cecile:

It's like wondering if you still have New Wave cred because you liked that one Sniff 'n' The Tears song.
  4:48pm
armalade kitty:

I'm in the failure tank
  4:48pm
northguineahills:

Is this the new Robert Hampson? This is nice!
  4:49pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Cecile, that is a song title in the waiting, right there.
  4:49pm
BSI:

such effervescent FAILURE...
crawling down the gelatine-coated walls of a gargling F-hole...
  4:50pm
glenn:

hmmmmm. so cecile, are you saying you saw the fake guess who and got out of baby sitting?
  4:52pm
Cecile:

I did!
It was exciting. I went with a friend from Spanish class and we talked to actual boys there. The concert was quite lousy, though.
  4:54pm
Dean Wormer:

Boys??? QUADRUPLE secret detention for you.
  4:55pm
jan:

wait who was a more musically proficient spacemen 3? i missed it
  4:55pm
Cecile:

Oh, I'm old now. I'm in permanent detention now.
  4:56pm
too much coffee:

elend => "AY-lend" (like "say")
  4:57pm
Cecile:

jan, Jean Michel Jarre and a hobo.
  4:57pm
too much coffee:

otherwise Fab speaks pretty good kraut
  4:58pm
Carmichael:

Hey, I actually LIKED Sniff 'n' the Tears. No one else did, though ...

I saw the Guess Who in '73 with Montrose, Elvin Bishop and Redwing. Ol' Elvin stole the show, although Ronnie Montrose was great.
  4:58pm
BSI:

Martin is a splendid film. I endorse.
  5:00pm
dinatekno:

I love the film 'Martin'. Saw it as a teenager in the 70's....spoke to a lot of us that were feeling just a bit 'different'.
  5:00pm
Cecile:

Hey, I liked the album, Carm. Didn't love it, but it was solid.
  5:01pm
Carmichael:

Carve Your Name on My Door and Poison Pen Mail were 2 standouts, as I recall.
  5:06pm
Cecile:

And driver's seat was the kind of weird, angular kind of prog-pop that appealed more to new wave kids than prog or pop fans - see also the Korgis, Ian Gomm, et al.
  5:07pm
BSI:

getting deep again.
  5:08pm
BSI:

I heard somebody call my name & I looked up and all you guys had all become PUPPETS, man, it was weird.
  5:12pm
Cecile:

this actually sounds like the inside of my head.
  5:13pm
northguineahills:

This sounds like when I was dropped on my head.
  5:13pm
Cecile:

but with a lot fewer feedtime riffs and ponderings about dinner.
  5:14pm
BSI:

your skin is like FELT or terry-cloth or something, man, I can't handle it.
  5:15pm
glenn:

dinner - is it all it's cracked up to be, or just a passing fancy?
  5:15pm
too much coffee:

ah yes this gonna be good
  5:16pm
Cecile:

I like it, but YMMV, glenn.
  5:17pm
too much coffee:

@glenn: it's a passing fancy. you only need one "meal", a.k.a a "proteins and greens" session per day, which you can take any time you want (just not too early). no need to make a big fluffy "dinner" event out of it, though.
  5:18pm
too much coffee:

except for obligatory social occasions, of course.
  5:20pm
Carmichael:

Every meal is the most important meal of the day.
  5:23pm
BSI:

Jeezus. I'm stuck on a long shift & starving my fool puppet head off. Would very nearly kill for a mighty cornbread (pepper style, not sweet) ... egad...this isn't helping...
  5:24pm
Cecile:

I liked dinner before it got famous and started handing out with actors 'n' stuff.
  5:26pm
too much coffee:

"shchEH-pa-nik" ?
  5:26pm
nic:

yeah it was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5:27pm
xezzy:

You were close once with Szczepanik, fabio! Passed. 'Sz' as in SHazam, 'cz' as in ka-TCHeng
  5:27pm
too much coffee:

@carmichael: if you eat right, yes. problem is most people eat way too much unnecessary & unhealthy crap.
  5:29pm
Pop And Chips:

Who's unnecessary, coffee guy?
  5:29pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

That reminds me... I missed 4th meal last night. I really need to remember to go to Taco Bell later tonight
  5:30pm
Cecile:

Most of us could use more meals, just smaller ones. Prevents the "crazy hungries."
  5:31pm
too much coffee:

@cecil: yup, that's the ticket
  5:31pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

aka zombies
  5:31pm
Soda And Chips:

Ooops, forgot my audience for a moment.
  5:31pm
too much coffee:

eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired
  5:32pm
too much coffee:

and fuck when you're in the flow, man
  5:34pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

speaking of flow and hard to pronounce names... you can read Finding Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
  5:35pm
BSI:

hot holy magical god margarine. This Sapat piece....
  5:36pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

time signatures are for suckers
  5:36pm
WRECKEDUMB:

i like this Sapat. thanx fur turning me on.
  5:36pm
blee:

@TMC, you sound like a talking food pyramid for a North Korea.
  5:38pm
Mike East:

@Soda and Chips - you just cracked me up. I must say I was thinking to myself - "they must be midwest."
  5:38pm
blee:

I only say that because I'm still drinking the coffee.
  5:40pm
too much coffee:

@blee: it's just the way we roll here in Paradise
  5:40pm
blee:

Comment 15 years behind: "This Sapat is So Phat!"
  5:41pm
too much coffee:

don't believe all that western propaganda
  5:42pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

I hope clay doesn't have a show today. I miss hearing clay's crazy word association banter with Fabio/callers.
  5:47pm
Cecile:

NICE.
  5:47pm
blee:

@TMC So you're saying I should give up the Atkin's Diet? I went from 335 to 331 in 5 years. All that bacon can't be bad for me.
  5:48pm
hubba:

In the midst of formatting... I hear this sunshiny rendition.
  5:49pm
too much coffee:

judging from the song, Clay must already be with us!
  5:49pm
hubba:

Cecile, Roy Wood "Boulders" A-side... your take?
  5:49pm
ted:

ELO!??...from Fabio?....not that I'm complaing, just a little surprising...unless Clay has taken control of things
  5:49pm
dale:

does no one listen to el dorado anymore?
  5:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

@TMC: YES! Or, be still my heart!--possibly JULIE too! (This is a fave song of hers)
  5:50pm
Carmichael:

Hubba, either Boulders or Mustard in its entirety!
  5:50pm
too much coffee:

@blee: naw man! eat whatever makes your tummy tingle!
  5:50pm
Cecile:

I haven't listened to it in a long time, but I remember it pleasantly.
  5:51pm
Cecile:

And let us not forget "Introducing Eddie and the Falcons"
  5:51pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

We are one step away from hearing Far From Over
  5:51pm
BSI:

@Dale: yessir. That's when I jumped on the ELO thing, when Eldorado was the new-weird record in town. Dug it like hell. Still do.
  5:51pm
ted:

i love the avant garde as much as anybody, but there are no flies on top notch ELO...not all their stuff, but certainly some of the early stuff
  5:51pm
hubba:

Hey Carm!! Absolutely essential these days... along with, gulp, Narvel Felts
  5:52pm
too much coffee:

but as for my own dietary predilections...
  5:52pm
Cecile:

I can't listen to Eldorado. Cleaned out too many chicken fryers to that.
  5:53pm
hubba:

breezed in on a haze of nag champa...
  5:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Clay IS Mr. Blue Sky! How appro to "breeze in" at that moment!
  5:54pm
too much coffee:

early morning = dates, fresh fruit, hardcore yogurt (greek, icelandic, etc). afternoon / throughout day = light snacks (real bread, occasional soup, cheese).
  5:54pm
too much coffee:

nothing really heavy until late afternoon / early eve, hopefully after some kind of serious sweatytime (= exercise, you preevs)
  5:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

I think that was an old National Lampoon photo--at least, they reused and popularized the deodorant testing photo.
  5:56pm
dale:

it's good record BSI. the opening overture is great. cut to the quick with hygiene habits clay!
  5:56pm
too much coffee:

the one "big" meal should be mostly greens + protein. late eves = whatever, but nothing heavy.
  5:57pm
too much coffee:

& lots of exceptions depending on mood / what's avail / who I'm hanging with, etc.
  5:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Uh oh...wearing his Mom's clothes to school, had a Ken doll...
(Anyone else think only of Station Manager Ken nowadays when they heard the words "Ken doll"?) :)
  5:57pm
dale:

sorry cecile. very progressive chicken shop, though...
  5:57pm
too much coffee:

because again, it's all about the Flow, you see.
  5:58pm
dale:

ken - would you give this banter an hour unto itself?
  5:58pm
Carmichael:

Face the Music was great also.
  5:58pm
Cecile:

Platforms are easier to walk in than stilettoes. I am now limited to 2" heels or less. I used to love my 4" platforms.
  5:58pm
Cecile:

Jim Carroll?
  5:59pm
dale:

jim carroll?
  5:59pm
too much coffee:

not good = coffee or heavy caffeine first thing in the morning (despite my name), or late at nite. as well as processed sugar of course, and most industrialized / productized foodstuffs in general.
  5:59pm
Ralphine:

Pete Carroll coaches the Seahawks.
  5:59pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

occupy = dusty slump
  6:00pm
Carmichael:

I wore platforms in the 70s too. I think all short guys did, along with the white guy afro.
  6:00pm
hubba:

no, not really... Now that Clay is here, see ya'...
  6:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

DustyDrama! Radio plays! Huzzah!
  6:00pm
hubba:

I stood on a platform once, maybe twice...
  6:02pm
G:

Clay, King of the "Semi Non Sequitur"!
  6:02pm
Freericks:

Fighting with Fabio.
  6:03pm
dale:

way way out by gary lewis and the playboys fits clay's description
  6:04pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

fabio "porn" count = 3
  6:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Take what you need and leave the rest.
  6:04pm
Carmichael:

Clay is a hep cat.
  6:04pm
too much coffee:

oh and my finaly dietary tip: try to go way moderate on the porn consumption please.
  6:05pm
Cecile:

playboy after dark
  6:05pm
too much coffee:

like Clay says, just take what you need from it... then move on.
  6:05pm
seang:

maybe Pete Shelley, Buzzcocks
  6:05pm
too much coffee:

as you would with, you know, any other semi-benevolent drug.
  6:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

JESUS! I didn't know that. I like Bob Welch, I have 3 of his solo albums.
RIP, that's truly sad...
  6:06pm
silent H:

Hey Clay have you heard of Tommy Mischke
  6:06pm
Cecile:

Ebony Eyes
Church
  6:07pm
Pidgeilante Justice:

more marching band music
  6:07pm
Carmichael:

Black Magic Woman
  6:07pm
Cecile:

YES
  6:07pm
Carmichael:

Fuckin' A Clay!
  6:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Clay played this for the DJ Battle!
  6:07pm
dale:

sadly i've known a cuple of folks who blew out their brains, another jumped over niagara falls. don't know what pain people are in.
  6:10pm
too much coffee:

love ya, Clay!
