There should be a webstream dedicated to the yip yip aliens reacting to every piece played on wfmu.

Yip Yip Webstream sounds like a good idea to me!
  12:14am

Hi & bye, Joe! I'll catch the archive as usual.

Good night, Sleepy Looms! Dream of Brazil.

Minnesota Jeff:

Good evening, Joe!

Hey Chop Scott--feather that nest! Hey, Minnesota! Hey david!

Wonderful Brazilian retrospective in this set! Hope someone from Brazil is listening and digging this!

Hello Joe!

Hey, Matt! What's up in Rio de Jan--I mean, Springfield?
  12:32am
Sara:

beautiful
  12:33am
Matt from Springfield:

Rio de Potomac is loving the new Astrud Gilberto! She's still got it!
  12:37am
Mara:

I love, love, love this show! Thanks Joe!!!!
  12:39am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, Secos e Molhados had good music, and it seems they did wear very Kiss like makeup back then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am
Joe McG:

Hi, Sara! Hi, Mara! Hey Matt--can you post a nice link to a picture? I'm so la-zeeee....
  12:44am
Matt from Springfield:

There's a few, I'll look for the most Kiss like one...
  12:44am
Minnesota Jeff:

This ain't too bad!
  12:46am
b:

Ugh. I tune in because I'm being annoyed by an awful old Kiss song I can't get off my mind and what are these guys chatting about? ARGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
Joe McG:

Hey, b: Dying to know what song you're thinking of.
  12:47am
b:

Die.
  12:47am
b:

Just kidding. Calling Dr. Love. Hate it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am
Joe McG:

Oof. I thought it might be "I Was Made for Loving You."
  12:48am
Matt from Springfield:

The most obvious one!
http://www.mp3mixx.com/artists/view/secos_e_molhados-366678

And some variations on that theme...
http://problemaseus.blogspot.com/2011/06/o-canto-que-encanta-xvi-secos-e.html Love the platter photo!
  12:49am
b:

That's even worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
Joe McG:

Thanks, Matt, great photos. @b: I played "Do You Love Me" last week--true!
  12:52am
b:

I don't hate all KISS. Just most of it.
  12:52am
Minnesota Jeff:

Dang, this song is damn good! (Jim Ford)
  12:53am
Minnesota Jeff:

What was the opening line, "Baby if the cake ain't missing, why are you covered in icing?" ?
  12:53am
b:

Oh my, P.J. Proby. KISS killer. Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am
Joe McG:

@MJeff: Yeah, it's a beaut of a lyric. Sure beats that "cake in the rain" shit!
  12:55am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, you know Kiss ain't got nuthin' on P.J. Proby!!
  12:56am
b:

P.J. could SANG, now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
Joe McG:

That thing he did with Led Zeppelin was pretty cute, too.
  12:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Pretty tune from Carol Kleyn! 1980? This could easily have been 10 years before then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am
Joe McG:

@Matt: Yeah, she looks like it, too, on the album art! Serious flower child ca. 1970.
  1:02am
b:

I've been spending too much time on Facebook. I just tried to "like" Matt's comment about Carol Kleyn.
  1:04am
Matt from Springfield:

Decompress here, b!

Someone once mentioned there should be a way to "like" our comments. The only way now is to make another comment, Re: to what it is, put a colon: and say "LIKE!"
  1:06am
Minnesota Jeff:

You are killing it tonight, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am
Joe McG:

And I thought it was already dead!
  1:07am
Matt from Springfield:

Lush sounds from Bermuda Triangle.

@MN Jeff: The first set alone killed it--every song after has just been gravy! Gooey, oozing gobs of overflowing musical gravy...
  1:07am
b:

Impressive version of Dream On! Always nice to hear someone do a classic well enough to not make me want to hear the original. Today I was listening to Gary Lewis & the Playboys' final LP and it was full of the opposite; yuck.
  1:08am
Freedom Rock:

Hey WFMU provides my Burnout Anthems!
  1:09am
Chop Scott:

JOE- I deeply thank you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am
Joe McG:

@b: I've always wondered if there's a great Gary Lewis album I've somehow overlooked. Is there? @Chop Scott: You understand!
  1:10am
Minnesota Jeff:

My fingers are crossed that we are heading into a 70's Rock Block.
  1:12am
b:

Unfortunately this was the first one I've ever heard all the way through, and they were burning out. Limp versions of Rhythm of the Rain, Turn-Down Day, Turn Around Look at Me, C.C. Rider, I Think We're Alone Now.....not a bad version of Everyday I Have to Cry Some, but that's probably just by comparison to the others I named.
  1:13am
b:

YES! YES! HOOK ME!
  1:14am
Minnesota Jeff:

Fingers uncrossed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am
Joe McG:

Sorry, Jeff!
  1:17am
Minnesota Jeff:

No problem. But seriously, no one digs out the lost rock gems like you and EFD. So many killer-cuts have blown my brains out for the first time listening to your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am
Joe McG:

@MJ: Thanks, man! Here's some weird obscure rock music for you...
  1:20am
b:

Obscure old rock albums are my business. Why haven't I heard of Fear Itself? GREAT stuff, thanks, and I even get the John Lee Hooker connection thanks to allmusic.com.
  1:22am
Matt from Springfield:

Not to mention, obscure old girl groups! The Skeptics!
  1:24am
b:

Fear Itself was on DOT?! Since when did Dot release ANYthing like that! Wow.
  1:25am
Matt from Springfield:

Not to mention, The Jelly Beans!!! Go Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry!
  1:26am
Julie:

yayyyy Joe time
  1:30am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Turn on McGasko and get a cup of coffee--It's Joe Time!
  1:31am
b:

I thought snarky. Restrained it. You're welcome.
  1:32am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: We could easily think of snarky comments about that song title, but it's Kiki Dee--why mess with something great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am
Joe McG:

@Matt: I wouldn't mind messing with Kiki Dee, yuk yuk!
  1:39am
b:

WOW! Gypsy Queen, fun choice.
  1:39am
b:

Did you know Don Robertson, the happy whistler, also wrote Lorne Greene's hit "Ringo"?
  1:39am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, that song was the original Surface Noise theme! (I keep forgetting just what that song was, hopefully I'll remember in a WFMU Trivia contest...)
  1:40am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Keep on doin' "the Mess-Around"...
  1:41am
Matt from Springfield:

1966! That's like a Santana predecessor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am
Joe McG:

@Matt: Yeah, Carlos totally copped that lick.
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

If only Carlos and Gabor had gotten into a competition, each trying to top the others "Latin riffs"...that would create exponential progress in the Latin riff area!

Clearly this song was written before Betty's experience with the Clean Up Woman... :)
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, funky clavinet and wah guitar!
  1:45am
b:

Clavinet. One of the greatest instruments ever invented.
  1:47am
b:

Groovy record. Obviously "The Man" kept this one down. Bummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am
Joe McG:

Can't keep Love down! Always comes back.
  1:55am
Matt from Springfield:

Cherie Currie tribute methinks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am
Joe McG:

@Matt: Intriguing idea! Not very flattering song if so.
  1:58am
Matt from Springfield:

That "Cherie" was the first thing I thought of seeing that title. Excellent New Wave song.

The Cuff Links! If it features "Joey Cord", it's probably a studio ensemble.
  2:00am
b:

An excellent edition of the Single File, if I do say so myself. And I just did.
  2:04am
b:

C'mon guys, you DO know, of course, that the Santana track is credited as a medley; Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen, written by Peter Green/Gabor Szabo. I'm sure Mr. Szabo appreciated the royalties, too.
  2:04am
Matt from Springfield:

Yes b! An excellent edition, of an already excellent concept.

Ah, "The Fishing Hole" is Andy Griffith's theme, "The Happy Whistler" is that original one.
  2:07am
Matt from Springfield:

Good think there's a record geek in the house! " "Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen" Peter Green/Gábor Szabó 5:22" Thanks b!

The introduction of the song, which was adapted from Szabo's "Gypsy Queen", consists of simple hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides on the guitar and bass, before moving into the introductory guitar solo of "Black Magic Woman."
  2:08am
Matt from Springfield:

I knew Peter Green wrote and performed "Black Magic Woman", I thought Carlos had improved an extended ending himself. But, I'll admit it was very creative of Carlos to make a medley out of those two songs.
  2:08am
b:

Mayberry. Not a place, a state of mind. I pretend I live there. That gets me in trouble sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am
Joe McG:

That's great that Santana cited it! I had no idea. Thought it was a Page/Jack Holmes type thing.
  2:10am
b:

Thanks Joe McG! You can play anything by Al Green or anything that glorifies Jesus anytime. Fitting, too, I have to call it a night; my duty to open up the church building in the morning and get communion ready. G'nite.
  2:12am
Matt from Springfield:

Praise the Lord and rest up, b!
Thanks for stoppin' by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am
Joe McG:

@b: Say a little prayer for me!
  2:14am
tomB:

Who's that voice at the front of the mike? Joe were you doing a Nazario Scenario?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am
Joe McG:

No no no, tomB! Al has a backup vocalist shadowing him. It's not really mixed well since it's dubbed from TV. I WAS singing in the studio, though!
  2:18am
Matt from Springfield:

First time hearing Carl Weathers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am
Joe McG:

@Matt: You heard him in all those "Rocky" movies!

some other guy:

I love this song.
  2:29am
Brian in UK:

Hi Matt. Just the early crop. Got to dig them up as it is so wet they might start to rot in the ground.
Great set, Joe suits the early mornin' you have brought out the sun over here.

For want of repeating myself must tell you what happening week afore last. My wife and three daughters took me off on a suprise trip to celebrate my impending 60th tomorrow. It was not 'til I was on the 'plane that I realised it was going to Prague. Brilliant surprise. Four days there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am
Joe McG:

@Brian: How excellent! Our own Kurt G. just returned from Praha with love in his eyes. I want to go there!
  2:39am

Surprise birthday trip! That's so awesome!
Lovely way to bring in number 60--our congrats go out to you as well!

Good request, SOG--if I weren't heading for the exit in 15, I'd go dig!
  2:44am
Brian in UK:

I am still in shock. Great value, the original Pilsner, they love pork there in all forms. Beautiful buildings. Sunshine. Great tram system.
  2:49am
Brian in UK:

Thanks for the word on Kurt G. I will check him out. Looks like he brought some music back. Time was too tight for anything but sightseeing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am

@Brian: Yes, he played some great tracks on his show last week!

These strings arrangements sound very familiar.
