	3:30pm northguineahills: Technically, I experienced the 70s first-hand, and I do remember them, but considering I didn't really get into music until I was 16, I didn't really "experience" the 70s.

	3:32pm fred: @ngh: depends on your field, really. LinkedIn is very easily walled off, which may or not be a good thing, depending on your field and the expectations there. In mine it's enough because I tell them I'm a software programmer who reads Virginia Woolf and Colson Whitehead, so they have found enough unusual stuff and stop there. In your case it might not be enough
	3:33pm BSI: As I remember it, much of the '70s was spent sleeping in the car whilst waiting in those epic lines at the gas station (see: fuel crisis, odd/even license-plate days, etc)
	3:35pm northguineahills: My field as a geographer is all over the place, and can be encompassed by any industry. Some jobs my personal tastes can be a plus, others, not so much.

	3:44pm j-No: Just because Pete Sinfield came up with the name King Crimson does not justify the amount of embarassment they had to suffer from his awful lyrics and song titles. His biggest crime though was the awful production on Roxy Music's debut album. I maintain hope that someday an unadulterated version of it will surface.

	4:18pm Carmichael: Fred, I also grew up in the 70s (late 60s, too!), so I don't know how much sanity I have left. But King Crimson were rock gods back in the day; now, they seem to be viewed as art school poofters. Time is a cruel mistress.
	4:19pm Cecile: If I were in NYC, London or LA in the late 70s, or SF in the early 70s, it would have been amazing. Or even in Ann Arbor when Station Manager Ken was around. Wait...I was in Australia for most of 1976. That part was awesome!!!!!!!

	4:22pm fred: For the most part I despise prog. But King Crimson sounds like good music to me, and I don't care about anyone who says otherwise.
	4:22pm hubba: Haven't seen much of anyhting... started Sweet Movie yesterday, then the family came home. I felt naughty.
	4:22pm northguineahills: I was in WV in '76, when I crawled out of the womb. My parents got out w/in 24 months as soon as they could (as did their friends and siblings).
	4:23pm Cecile: The Sorcerer soundtrack is one of my very favorite recordings.
	4:25pm hubba: some films by the excellent Japanese filmmaker Kaneto Shindo are palying at the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts in SF this weekend and enxt: Kuroneko and Onibaba... for those of us on the West coast.
	4:25pm Carmichael: Agreed, Cecile. But It seems to me the younger generation sees them as posers rather than talented musicians. They don't understand Fripp, and Eno is an oddball. How do you answer that kind of logic?
	4:26pm dale: that was krautrock-y, if i remember. not popul vuh....
	4:27pm Carmichael: Dale, Sorcerer was actually an updated remake of the film The Wages of Fear. They are both excellent movies. I found Sorcerer to be more gripping, especially the bridge-breaking-in-the-monsoon-over-swollen-river scene.

	4:28pm fred: @Cheri: whatever I said wasn't about you, What is High Mountain Temple? My ears are as close to salivating over that as can be allowed before a trip to the ENT.
	4:29pm steve: Carmichael, maybe its just because of where i live (north brooklyn) or who my friends are (musicians, artists, and nerds), but most 20s-30s people i know do appreciate King Crimson. you'd be surprised.
	4:29pm Cecile: that blows my mind, Carm. I have friends who hate 'em, which I can understand, but they at least respect Fripp.
	4:30pm Cecile: steve, I think that was the target audience for Crimso back in the day, too! :D
	4:30pm dale: spoiler alert - i loved the last scene where the guy from new york gets off the bus. i thought it was a brilliant movie.

MUST SEE "Killer Joe"!!! love seeing actors shatter their images -- like the "Brady Bunch" gals portraying teenage hookers in those 1970s made-for-TV movies :) and YES King Crimson were and remain AWESOME -- and yeah, they kinda fell into that "progressive rock" category back then (heavy airplay on WNEW-FM, etc.) perhaps that is why some (not all, thankfully!) of the young-uns do not "get it" -- they do not remember a time when major/mainstream radio stations were actually pretty freakin' free-form!!!
	4:31pm Cheri Pi: My ears really perked up at High Mountain Tempel- their page says they sound like:The sound of Pacific wind through Torrey Pine needles. The High Sierras. Big Sur Esalen think tanks. The Hippies, The Beats, The Freaks and The Freaky! " they've worked with Acid Mothers Temple etc...
	4:32pm hamburger: my first guitar learning book had a preface by robert fripp along with a photo - and my first thought without knowing anything about him was - 'omg - total music nerd'
	4:32pm northguineahills: My situation is the same as Steve's, however, I was really into Robert Fripp's instrumental work years before (in my teens) I could get into King Crimson
	4:34pm Carmichael: I wanna move in with you guys. People are much more musically tolerant out your way.
	4:34pm steve: i picked up a used copy of the Fripp and Eno Evening Star lp a few weeks ago, really nice woodsy ambient + guitar noodles for after work listening
	4:35pm hubba: I like parts of Crimson... but do I like the sum of those parts, eh? I think all you need is a little of something. I can't say there is a single artist/band/etc where I fall head over ehels for anyhting they do.

	4:36pm dale: i never got into crimson, eventhough i had two albums. i do like fripps 'exposure' though.
	4:36pm Cheri Pi: I saw KC perform here with Fripp and the California Guitar trio too, it mesmerized me and I didn't think I was going to enjoy it. A seminal moment for me.
	4:37pm Cecile: hubba, my best friend from HS thinks the same way you do. She would never have more than 2 albums from anyone because she could hear more different music that way.
	4:38pm Cecile: I pretty much wore out my tape of Discipline, and really enjoy the other albums on vinyl.

	4:40pm Cecile: Oh, speaking of music nerd-dom - I need a good pair of compact speakers to use with my turntable. All my other ones are huge dead things now. I'm not a super audiophile, so under $250 for a pair.

	4:41pm northguineahills: I've had multiple meniscus tears, and multiple surgeries, thanks to soccer injuries. They are not fun. Hope Fabio & Sven are walking fine.
	4:41pm steve: i haven't listened to it in a while, but Discipline always seemed like a ridiculously blatant Talking Heads ripoff to me
	4:42pm Cecile: Sven, I had arthoscopic surgery for mine. It helped a lot.
	4:43pm Cecile: It kind of was, but I liked it better than the Heads at the time. I think it was the insane guitars. Well, hell, I have three Adrian Belew solo albums, so maybe I'm not that impartial.

	4:43pm hubba: Carm, there was a period her ein town where the signs and lamp posts were dripping with Crimson/Zappa/Beefheart... when that group Hella were making the rounds. There were some noodl-y kids bragging about vinyl copies they scored 15 bucks... I liked Islands, is that what it was called, but about 75%... Television is band where I practically love everything, or Can maybe... Caetano Veloso has been good to me... but still, only about 75% of those albums, lets say, speak to me... the remaining are just filler. Sounds harsh, i know, but same with literature, movies, art... i would love the idea of someone "nailing" it... maybe i'll change my mind when someoen tells me, "you got it right and have shaped the way I see this thing forever." Still waiting... and waiting.
	4:45pm Cecile: Beefheart I pretty much like everything (except for those two crappy pop albums). He got it right.

	4:46pm Carmichael: This is my simultaneous 1 year anniversary of rotater cuff surgery and ACL tear. I don't remember ever getting hurt when I actually played soccer. Hang in there, Fab.
	4:47pm Cecile: The first two have some fluff to them, but also some great crazy guitar. The third, Desire Caught by the Tail, is really annoying in a good way.

	4:56pm northguineahills: @common: OW, OW, OW! I've also snapped my ACL a long time ago. I have no cartilage left in my left knee after a post-op infection (and they took it out). My orthopedic doctor ordered me 4 years ago to stop running and from playing soccer, so biking is my only exercise now.

Give me your SINGLE strongest judgment on the freakin' thing." (I didn't get the op.)

	5:04pm Cecile: sbp, my tear was small and they were able to do arthro. Also, I had fallen a couple of times before and had my knee drained twice. So it was probably the best thing to do.

	5:07pm Cecile: yeah. about as good as new. now my problems are arthritis in my joints and weak ankles. Oh, yay.
	5:08pm Cecile: that was me asking, xstat. But I like to have the sound filling the house! Then again, it's not a terrible idea.
	5:12pm still b/p: I'm aware of the wonkiness and risk of ouch with certain demands and angles, but I walk hard and bike regularly with no trouble, and when I hike I can climb and descend hard and fast without any trouble. So a vigorous scramble can be fine, yet a few moments on my knees on a floor can bring reminders. I think forgoing the surgery was good, all in all.
	5:14pm Cecile: then I wouldn't worry about it unless you start having really horrible pain. I went for nearly 10 years after the first injuries to having to have surgery.

I just started having my patellar ligament come loose while biking. Although, it's just annoying, I know if I don't put it back in place when it happens it can get stuck in an rather disadvantageous location.

In mine it's enough because I tell them I'm a software programmer who reads Virginia Woolf and Colson Whitehead, so they have found enough unusual stuff and stop there. In your case it might not be enough

	4:18pm Carmichael: Fred, I also grew up in the 70s (late 60s, too!), so I don't know how much sanity I have left. But King Crimson were rock gods back in the day; now, they seem to be viewed as art school poofters. Time is a cruel mistress.

	4:27pm Carmichael: Dale, Sorcerer was actually an updated remake of the film The Wages of Fear. They are both excellent movies. I found Sorcerer to be more gripping, especially the bridge-breaking-in-the-monsoon-over-swollen-river scene.

MUST SEE "Killer Joe"!!! love seeing actors shatter their images -- like the "Brady Bunch" gals portraying teenage hookers in those 1970s made-for-TV movies :) and YES King Crimson were and remain AWESOME -- and yeah, they kinda fell into that "progressive rock" category back then (heavy airplay on WNEW-FM, etc.) perhaps that is why some (not all, thankfully!) of the young-uns do not "get it" -- they do not remember a time when major/mainstream radio stations were actually pretty freakin' free-form!!!

	4:34pm steve: i picked up a used copy of the Fripp and Eno Evening Star lp a few weeks ago, really nice woodsy ambient + guitar noodles for after work listening
	4:35pm hubba: I like parts of Crimson... but do I like the sum of those parts, eh? I think all you need is a little of something. I can't say there is a single artist/band/etc where I fall head over ehels for anyhting they do.

	4:43pm hubba: Carm, there was a period her ein town where the signs and lamp posts were dripping with Crimson/Zappa/Beefheart... when that group Hella were making the rounds. There were some noodl-y kids bragging about vinyl copies they scored 15 bucks... I liked Islands, is that what it was called, but about 75%... Television is band where I practically love everything, or Can maybe... Caetano Veloso has been good to me... but still, only about 75% of those albums, lets say, speak to me... the remaining are just filler. Sounds harsh, i know, but same with literature, movies, art... i would love the idea of someone "nailing" it... maybe i'll change my mind when someoen tells me, "you got it right and have shaped the way I see this thing forever." Still waiting... and waiting.

	5:04pm Cecile: sbp, my tear was small and they were able to do arthro. Also, I had fallen a couple of times before and had my knee drained twice. So it was probably the best thing to do.

	5:12pm still b/p: I'm aware of the wonkiness and risk of ouch with certain demands and angles, but I walk hard and bike regularly with no trouble, and when I hike I can climb and descend hard and fast without any trouble. So a vigorous scramble can be fine, yet a few moments on my knees on a floor can bring reminders. I think forgoing the surgery was good, all in all.
	5:14pm Cecile: then I wouldn't worry about it unless you start having really horrible pain. I went for nearly 10 years after the first injuries to having to have surgery.

I just started having my patellar ligament come loose while biking.
