A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Forgot to ask, has the cold gone south?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am

thank you for asking brian. my cold has flowered into inflamed vocal chords! but it is getting better day by day. still not back to my soprano tones...

Hey, I always type 'place' as 'palce' too! :)
  9:14am
annie:

good morning all; sorry to hear about the throat issues, trouble. ..and are you accepting requests for performers here on the comments section? if so i'd be happy with anything by karen dalton..
  9:17am
doca:

hi trouble, sorry for the throat problems too. great selection so far, by the way.
  9:20am

Hiya Trouble and listeners, way to go playing Konx Om Pax at the end of last week's show, when I informed him of this he was stoked:)

Something important I discovered yesterday: A WFMU tote bag makes an excellent makeshift rainhat when one is caught in a sudden downpour without an umbrella.
  9:32am

came very close to buying idea box a week ago. The condition wasn't worth the price, though.

You sound like big trouble.
  9:40am

Adrian, there is a great double bill on 3rd November. Free Grasscut gig at Union Chapel then Murnau's Nosferatu at the Barbican with six piece ensemble.

you rock! @ the maiker faire this weekend in queens i saw infants soldering. those wacky science kids...
  9:47am
Titus in GA:

Wow! Julie Driscoll! Haven't heard this in years! Nice one, Trouble
  9:48am
Mike East:

I've got two pairs of headphones that have needed soldering for several months now. Unfortunately, I'm not very good with such things. Maybe I could get one of those infants to fix my stereo sound.
  9:48am
Cecile:

I wish I got to solder 'n' stuff. I got a chemistry set as a kid and was never allowed to use it unless dad was there. And dad acted like it was HIS toy. llolololol
  9:48am
Cecile:

Damn Fat Albert really got down when he was off camera.
  9:49am
doca:

hi cecile! it's been a long time.
  9:50am
doca:

i only knew this music from the dr. john recording. i liked it more funky.
  9:50am
Andrew Waterloo:

As a skilled solderer I tend to advocate simply buying new headphones. But, it really depends on where the break is and the quality of the headphones. Usually headphones have horrible stranded string-like wire.
  9:51am
maja:

Hi trouble, hi all. Glad to be here once again in real time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am

shhhh andrew, don't scare scottm, he's a newbie and we want him to forge forward!

hiya, doca!
  9:55am
Brian in UK:

trouble, scottm is not making horse shoes just yet. Serge Forwarde was a French singer in the 50s.
  9:56am
Cecile:

In lawyer Louie Nizer's book, there's a great story about how he caught Morrie Amsterdam (from the Dick Van Dyke Show) plagiarizing the original artist, and managed to get a settlement for the original songwriter!
  9:57am
Scottm:

My band is called Infants Soldering.
  9:58am
pierre:

I love this Father's Children track !
  9:58am
matt:

is something going on with the transmitter? because where I live at the far limit of 91.1 a NPR station has taken over the usually clear WFMU signal this morning.
  9:58am
Nate in Detroit:

Was that "rhum et coca cola" song used in a film/tv show/commercial recently (or maybe not so recently)? i know i've heard it before, but i can't place where...maybe it's just from wfmu
  9:59am
Brian in UK:

  10:02am

90.1 was horrible last month, but it's better now.
  10:06am

nate, it's also known as "drinking rum and coca cola" The Andrews Sisters (among lots of other people) had a hit with it.

Cecile:

a friend of mine and I were talking about Zoe Saldana potentially playing Nina Simone in a movie, and of course Diana Ross as Billy Holiday comes up...
  10:08am
matt:

okay, maybe it's the weather. billie holliday's miraculously appeared.
  10:09am
BruceF:

Your voice - Va, va, voom! Conflicted, as its got to be a real pain to deal with.
  10:10am
Cecile:

I think someone should remake Mahogany with a Billie Holiday impersonator as revenge.
  10:10am

HEYYYY!!! The description of this show is magical! I am pretty sure this is my first time listening to your show and I am feeling it. Good morning!! (extra exclamation points courtesy of a lot of coffee)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am

i could see maya rudolph pulling off the anger and intensity of nina very easily. she does not look like her at all though. i want to be the costume designer on that gig, nina had some outstanding looks!
  10:15am
Cecile:

She's still be better than who they are looking at.
I'd think someone like Kelis, too, if she's any good at acting.
  10:18am
ffrr:

What about Macy Gray?
  10:20am
Jennique:

Cecile, I did read that article about Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone in the NYTimes and it made me pause. They do raise some interesting points about identity and how much it was part of Nina Simone's music. Not sure who I would cast. Jennifer Hudson? She's got the pipes for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am

good morning jennique? how is everyone doing at the lonely homestead?
  10:22am

What about Michael Cera?
  10:23am

we were talking about Jennifer, Jennique, too. I was wondering about someone like Jill Scott.

Awright! BOC! I wonder if they have heard this????
  10:24am

Love this record. Quintron & Miss Pussycat were on Treme this week! :)
  10:24am

I kind of still love him, though.
  10:24am
Krypt:

  10:24am
Neg-guh-tor:

Where did you get this 9th ward Quintron record, Monica? I got it from a friend who is playing on it. She's a friend of Maria's, too.
  10:25am
Jennique:

Hey Trouble, pretty quiet down on our farm. Still trying to adjust to the hole left by our little pooper. She is greatly missed. Thanks for asking.
btw - really like your windows and electric lights in the coop! I want to move it with them!

hahahhahha Crypt.
I kind of still love him, though.
  10:26am
Jennique:

Oops, I meant to say move IN with them.
  10:27am
Cecile:

My friend (with whom I was debating Nina) lived in NOLA for years. When he got the first season of Treme, he brought over gumbo and also had 3x5 cards from which he explained nuances of New Orleans culture from time to time.

  11:07am
Adrian in London:

(Sorry to monopolise the comments everyone) @Brian I think he's writing one. And I'm seeing him in Brighton cos there weren't many tix for the Barbican left when I looked.
  11:11am
Brian in UK:

Adrian, nice day out at the seaside. There are some great gigs in Brighton. We saw Richard Buckner there back end of last year.
  11:12am
Titus in GA:

Gotta jet, Trouble:( Another very rad show from ya, today, thanks. Please get well soon! Cheers!
  11:15am
Brian in UK:

Adrian, it is a shame the gig is not around Guy Fawkes 'cause the folks of Lewes nearby really like to celebrate. When we went down some had face paint like it was a New Orleans scene. Spooky.
