DB, Switch off the transmitter and see if outside stimulus occurs. Well, this is FMU, so the dead air may be expected. First announce the transmitter/existential experiment, then wait.

Yup, Fred, Mr. Saturday Night over here!
  9:42pm
Droll:

G, I once convinced a friend the line in that song was "I might sink a little drink and shout out JUBILEE!" My entire defense was "He was a 70's bisexual glam rocker. Which sounds more plausible?" I won him over instantly.
  9:45pm
G:

There's one born every minute, Dan'l :-) Thank ungod we're not the one. :-)
  9:47pm
G:

I guess the proper term for that is "faux mondegreen practical joke."
  9:57pm
G:

I'll be listening, gotta get off the kb somewhat for now, so's I can pack to drive to family stuff tomorrow. Key must enter ignition at 6:45 AM. No time to pack in the morning...

Mellotron -- It's about time!
G, Who said it was faux?
  9:58pm
Uncle Michael:

Man, this is really cool.
  10:05pm
Looms:

Correct, Daniel.
  10:05pm
Uncle Michael:

That track is called Haunted House on the HiD reissue? I'm coming up with the title Haunted Island.
  10:06pm
fred von helsing:

the "ü" tells me it's not finnish, it's parbly estonian
  10:07pm
G:

@Droll: OK, I'll call it faux. :-) That was just Elton striving to be topical by adopting for one song the Taupin-created lyrical persona of an aggro yob of the type well known in the UK in the early 70s. Aggro yobs shout out "She's with me!!!" and not "JUBILEE!!!" a la Liberace or something... :-)

EJ (Reggie) is my homey and I gotta speak up on his behalf -- he played my high school gym to benefit the yearbook early in the Yellow Brick Road tour...

Back to the pack task
  10:08pm
fred von helsing:

but "kääpiö" is def finnish, = dwarf

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm

G, enjoy packing!
  10:20pm
Droll:

G, Right, EJ playing a ruffian is "Jubilee" is the same way MJ's "Bad" isn't "Bääd". The 70's EJ isn't a problem for me, but the milquetoast 90's and later stuff is much lower than Phil Collins' work of the same era.
  10:21pm
G:

Ugh, I'm in mid pack-age. Wanna be done by 11something...

  10:26pm
Droll:

. o O ( The new Scott Walker is way fresher than that noise kids make today )

G, I just remembered (listened to Irwin's show via archives). 9c1 * 9c1 * 8c1 = 648 possible comment quiz answers. Like you and Matt noted, the first two digits are 1-9, and the last digit must add to no more than 9 without using 0, meaning it's 1-8. 9*9*8=648 possible answers.

Uncle M, this album is fantastic - makes you focus like a mofo... FvH, I know - I might see what Terre's up to in the post Xmas party upstairs!
  10:27pm
Uncle Michael:

D., I have it. I just haven't devoted a lot of listening time to it, so that when I hear a track on FMU, it's still very fresh to me.
  10:28pm
Krys O.:

Scott Walker's The Drift was a good'un too
  10:29pm
G:

648, glad someone can do that math. :-) I do logic more than hardcore math, and would have had to figure it out from scratch laboriously. :-) Still more fun than packing.
  10:29pm
Uncle Michael:

Been all the way through it only once. It's not as scary as The Drift.
  10:30pm

@Uncle Michael: Bish Bosch has a very peculiar timing and logic, enjoy it!

Thanks for the Scott

Krys! YES!
  10:33pm
Ike:

Yeah DB, the Port Authority is ridiculous. Who ever imagined the MTA would do such a vastly better job post-Sandy? Time for the PATH to be given to the MTA! I'm sure at least they'd run a late-night shuttle bus while repairing signals. All PATH riders who are on Twitter should harass the P.A. at @PATHtweet endlessly.
  10:34pm
sweet cheri:

well daniel i'm heading out now see you real soon, happy new year!
  10:34pm
G:

PATH = Punk Ass Transit Hell

FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily
  10:37pm
jack m.:

ahem...may i, as a rider for almost 30 years, show some path love? c'mon, guys, really? aside from the odd hurricane direct hit, it's generally more reliable than the friggin' F train. :P :))
  10:38pm
PATH:

Yeah, you guys are meanies sniffsniff
  10:39pm
fred von helsing:

Hey wait a minute what did FMU stand for again ? It wasn't Fairly Ridiculous U (Rutherford?). It was in Montclair.
  10:39pm
PATH:

I recommend swimming, in a pinch
  10:40pm
Ike:

@Jack the F train runs all night!!! What are you smoking!?!?! I'd give my left arm for an apt. in Kensington or someplace off the F lately! Countless late-night types are bailing on Jersey because of this CRAP. Supposed to be 24/7 service, where is our #@$$%! shuttle bus!?!?

Sorry, I'm a bit sore about this.
  10:41pm
Ken:

Let's not forget bicycles, people.
  10:42pm
Droll:

Ike, Is there some technical or safety reason they don't run the PATH trains at night, or are they just testing people's patience as part of a giant social experiment?
  10:44pm
fred von helsing:

They are waiting for the mutations. You think the storm didn't find some EPA sites ?
  10:44pm
PATH:

I get so sleepy by 11, I just watch the local news while drifting off in my lovely comfy bed at home..... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  10:44pm
Ike:

Droll, they're repairing signals & other equipment. (During the day, they're operating signals manually, whatever that means.) But they are so uncommunicative that you could easily assume it's a social experiment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
D. Blumin:

Sweet Cheri, see ya and back at ya! I'd love to ride my bike over the river - and was hoping that would be possible post endtimes, but alas, noooooooooo!
  10:46pm
fred von helsing:

manual signalling system, holy crap, SO 80s
  10:46pm
Ike:

Yeah, 1880s!
  10:47pm
Looms:

I thought these train problems were typically french but you guys are proving me wrong.
  10:47pm
PATH:

Bikers, just get a good runing start like Evil Knievel, and jump the river. Not THAT's Trans Hudson.
  10:48pm
PATH:

"Now THAT's" -- I am SOOOOO incompetent...
  10:49pm
PATH:

PATH is here for PATH. You would-be riders are just the pretext. Learn it, live it. OK, so don't love it.
  10:50pm
Ken:

I will add one bottle rocket to my Trans-Hudson Rocket Bike for every 20$ pledge
  10:50pm
Droll:

Communicating manually? As in manualism? The hand-farting thing? That's amazing! Is this on YouTube?
  10:52pm
PATH:

Post-Sandy the MTA head Lhota could be the next NYC mayor. Our intrepid PATH leadership will be the next big-pension retirees. Happy happy joy joy!
  10:55pm
jack m.:

my point: aside from this current crazyass situation, the path normally runs all night and is as, if not more, reliable than the ny subway system (and also smells less of pee.)

and on that note, merry xmas!! :))
  10:57pm
PATH:

Yeah, new slogans we are focus grouping:

PATH: Our P Does Not Stand For Piss

Just Get Home By 9 to Play It Safe, You Little People. Have a Nice Day!
  11:04pm
Looms:

Are you wearing a Santa suit right now, Daniel?
  11:04pm
PATH:

@Looms: He's NUDE people!!!! RUN!!!!!!
  11:05pm
Looms:

The end of the world as we know it! :D
  11:07pm
Ike:

Jack, I bet the MTA has never failed to offer service on any particular subway line past 10 p.m. for months in a row w/o a shuttle bus. Not acceptable. You should be outraged & bugging the P.A. about it.
  11:10pm
PATH:

P.A. = Proudly Awful
  11:10pm
Droll:

PATH, The experiment is working, he's about to pop! I'll turn on the high-speed camera!
