Fourth grade. Copying math problems off the board incorrectly, leading to parents checking for the right answers to the wrong problems, leading to a parent-teacher conference and ... glasses.
Avatar 7:44pm
deanland:

In the 3rd grade I was seated way far in the back of the class, the last row (due to being a disruptive type, back when the word disruptive meant ill behaved or naughty, not innovative). It was about that time I got my first pair of glasses and was STUNNED to learn that the blackboard was actually visible. I thought not seeing the blackboard was a punishment (despite thinking it was a certain form of freedom). First vanity moment re aging: one day, instinctively I removed my glasses to read something. The guy across from me said something to the effect of,"heh, you're an old man, eh, gotta take off the glasses to read?" I am reluctant to tell you just how many years ago that was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
G:

Yes, glasses likewise came to me at age 7 from "copying homework off the board" issues.

But I was thinking the topic was something like our first signal of incipient elderhood (which might be glasses, but not in 2nd grade)

sweet story, deanland... fleep, awwwww.... david_ - yeah!....

  7:53pm

Before my first pair of glasses (aged 7) I just thought the world turned soft when you moved away from things.
Avatar 7:53pm

I think my age vanity issues started when I would try to look graceful doing exercise or sports, and immediately get a charlie horse or feel some bone trying to work its way out of place...
