Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

I've always felt a bit disappointed that i was never introduced to this type of music growing up in a Baptist environment. The church i went to had me convinced that God had terrible taste in music. It took me a long while to realize just how wrong i was.
Maybe suburban Connecticut Baptists are just out of the loop musically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
sinner:

I know what you mean. But one of my own gospel music epiphanies was when I heard an old stodgy baptist hymn sung in funky style. Yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
Kristina Koffee:

cklequ, same boat but didn't grow up Baptist. I think it's still fair to say most suburban people are out of the loop, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
sinner:

Remember, too that most of this music would not have been played during a church service, but a gospel music programs at churches, auditoriums, and the like.

You killin' me bro
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm

@natural: Hah! You ain't kiddin' man. I'm lovin' it too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Mike East:

i've sung "this little light of mine" to my daughter practically every day of her life (she's 5 months old)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
sinner:

that whole LP is great and the title track is, too. funky.
