And yes I am, Mad Dog! AND getting smashed in the face while at it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Andrew Waterloo:

So is this a bootleg of the Koln concert or just a posting of the LP? rootstrata.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Daniel Blumin:

Not sure, Andrew - think the LP is a booter...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Yah.. looks like it may be a boot LP pressed from the boot mp3s.
Avatar 11:04pm
Droll:

In the internetz age where all music is pirated, bootleg is such an anachronism.

DB: According to the search-thing, tonight's the first time you ever played The Lips.
Avatar 11:05pm
Droll:

Do they really make LPs of MP3s?!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Yup, they make them out of CDs and other records as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
G:

Yes, it is well known in ROIO world for unscrupulous people to dupe the clueless out of sometimes sizable bucks by making vinyl or double vinyl out of something electronic and easily traded for free (ROIO is a "tape trader" term for boot, "recording of hahaha indeterminate origin")

just make some decent cover art and price it at $30 a copy. considered sleazissimo and grounds for expulsion among actual ROIO traders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
G:

Sometimes there are maybe half a dozen different album names and cover arts for essentially the same original source recording of the same concert, all going back through various generations to one 1970s cassette taper. Often you can tell from particular little glitches which prior ROIO version a vinyl ripoff artist is using as his "master tape"
  11:15pm
Basil:

Heya...that Hawkwind....recorded by THE Gary Lucas? Flavour Bud Living n' all?
Avatar 11:15pm
Droll:

G, I have some twice-removed ROIOs that are CDs of a LP, presumably because whoever stamped the LP boots is long gone. But taking the inferior sound of (freely available) MP3s and adding LP surface noise sounds like the worst of all worlds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, ROIO is sort of the snobs term for bootleg. Remember the Pink Floyd trading rings being fairly abrupt about it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
G:

They aint tryin to maximize fidelity, they'z tryin to maximize income
Avatar 11:18pm
Droll:

That cha-ching sound must be someone being born.
  11:18pm
Jelrod:

after a brutal day of apartment hunting, this audio bath is most intoxicating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Andrew Waterloo:

It seems odd to be talking about how nefarious peoples exploit vinyl collectors on record store day...
Avatar 11:20pm
Droll:

[nods knowingly to AW]
  11:21pm
Basil:

Great show. Thanks so much. So..yeah...That live Hawkwind...Gary Lucas of Magic Band fame?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Daniel Blumin:

Droll, at FMU, yes... but on college radio... twas a different story altogether... hit to death... An anachronism, eh? Why I oughtta!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Daniel Blumin:

Jelrod! Hope you found sumthin... I believe it was the very same, Basil! Thx fer checking in! (And not out!)
