Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from August 16, 2013 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

@fred - I think Bud is so popular because you can drink a whole bunch of them, which seems to be the point of a lot of people, as opposed to a good beer that actually tastes like something and I've found I can only drink 2 or 3 of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm

I think at the end of the day, the average person isn't that concerned with what their drinking, watching, or listening to. As long as they're enjoying it and it didn't take too much energy to get it. Now, they'll portray themselves as more discerning and ultimately rational about their choices.

Avatar 1:46pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

@fred: Guinness is a fine thing (if on tap & not served TOO COLD (as we americans seem too effing keen on doing) -- but the ABV% is fairly low; it's definitely calibrated for many many many pints in a sitting.

India Pale Ale
Avatar 2:07pm
Carmichael:

Fred, an IPA is an extra-hopped version of a standard pale ale, which raises the sugars and consequently the ABV level. The British found that their ales would wilt on the long voyage to India, so they hopped them up to fortify them. An IPA is usually 6.5 to 7 ABV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm
Andrew Waterloo:

IPA is your hoppy beer.
  2:08pm
Bradd in Spokane:

Not necessarily super strong though. See Double IPA and Imperial IPA.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Mike East:

I had an IPA with some oysters and clams yesterday. Local, but not THAT hoppy. delicious.
Avatar 2:10pm
Carmichael:

And there's now a category called West Coast IPAs, which are either double-hopped or dry-hopped, either of which will get you into the 7.5 to 9 ABV. Will make your taste buds curl up and pulsate, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Wretch:

"IPA" makes me think of "Epa! Epa! Thousand eyes!"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I usually pick up something strong, and then something more drinkable like a premium ale
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
tim from champaign:

I'm on a hop kick right now. I go in cycles where hopped beers are too much for my palette. Then other times I seek out the hops.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
fred:

I'll confess to being ignorant about English beers. I'm in France and the Belgian stuff is much more common over here when you go beyond the crappy local stuff. Even Guinness has to be earned: not uncommon in bars, but the good one is elusive. Sounds worth looking for though, "hoppy" is good, and Belgian beer is often too sugary for me
Avatar 2:12pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

...a good strong Belgian is also the pause that refreshes. And causes a wee stumble here & there.
Avatar 2:12pm
Carmichael:

Sierra Nevada is the go-to beer out here for bbqs and tailgate parties. Sometimes Racer 5 from Bear Republic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm

We have something called Mill Street Organic that has been really popular around here.
  2:14pm

@tim: a splash of water can be good with the cask strength stuff, though in my opinion you'll get the same olfactory release without diluting the taste by pouring a smaller amount and letting it rest for a few minutes before drinking. Wine glasses are better than straight so-called whisky ones, pour it to maximum air contact and let it rest a bit. Ice is a big no-no, it dulls the taste
