Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from November 19, 2013 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

...one (well - some!...) may think of Genesis as this intense & forbidding character - but sounds here so notably thotful & unaggressive (in the British manner).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm

I think of Genesis as a countercultural chameleon. As his creative interests evolve/change he absorbs and displays.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
tim from champaign:

I definitely dig your point too, RRN. I think the difference between Genesis and some artists that are identified as transgressive, "dangerous" and intense is that Genesis is a thoughtful person. He can push and pull back. Whereas, GG Allin, Whitehouse, Boyd Rice, etc is push, push, push without any thoughtfulness beyond the ego..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & after all, the Impression is part of the palette Genesis uses, I should think - like many greats & media personalities (have called Warhol an 'Identity Artisit' for example)
...G.G. Allin denied being a Performance Artist - just wanted to identify as an uncompromised Rocker...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- so it's not just a question of 'Technique' - but 'To What End'...

"Death of Samantha"--sweet! AIU in general is a great, often overlooked album. I remember that (amazing) "lengthy 2010 chat"--afterwards Brian serenaded the NYC airwaves by playing an entire album side of "Fly", with Yoko buzzing as a fly! :)

Hopefully BT will play "Listen, The Snow Is Falling", it's almost December. It's the closest thing WFMU has to an old sentimental Christmas classic!
