I was surprised while listening to an old Lester Bangs interview that he considered Cheap Trick a new wave band. Were they? I never thought of them as such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Parq:

RC, they were kind of fellow travelers -- the new wave enthusiast's arena band. Nobody in my crowd actually considered them a new wave band, but everybody seemed to dig them anyway.

Cheap Trick WAS a cheap trick!

Epic certainly did their part. Remember that group of 10" EPs, released in 1980(?) Included Clash, Cheap Trick a few others.

I heard 2 verses and then a chorus, not 3 verses
  12:33pm
Greg:

Whoo-boy, I love that government center song so much...
Avatar 12:34pm

What part is the chorus?
Avatar 12:35pm

Me too Greg - what a piece of Rock

We gotta rock-a rock-a rock-a nonstop tonight
Uh huh, at the government center
Make the secretaries feel better
When they put the stamps on the letters
Avatar 12:39pm
Michael Shelley:

That's the exact same structure as the first verse
Avatar 12:39pm
Michael Shelley:

or does it open witha chorus
  12:41pm
Eric:

same chords but the feel is different, and they repeat it once again before the last bridge and outro... it's a definitely a less obvious kind of chorus
  12:43pm
Eric:

what you call 3rd and 4th verse are the chorus
  12:44pm
Greg:

Maybe that drum fill between the second and third versus is the chorus. :)
Avatar 12:47pm
Michael Shelley:

Perhaps we're over thinking it!
  12:49pm
cal zone!:

It def has a sing-along chorus-like verse, which makes it an A#1 hit!
  12:50pm
KP:

The Dillards!
  12:50pm
Jimmy Wipper:

Dillards! Yay!
  12:50pm
Dennis Diken:

Mikey, to me it's an example of verse = chorus, where the verses are strong enuff and that's that. I think "This Boy"is another example and we could probably come up with others. maybe "Liar. Liar" too?
  12:51pm
Eric:

Yeah the important thing is that it rocks!

The song was also covered by two New Jersey groups: the Smithereens and The Ergs!
Avatar 12:58pm

That Swedish band was Dutch. Which gives me a perfect excuse to be annoying: WFMU has NEVER played a song by the brilliant Spinvis.
This is your chance, Michael!
