Just so you all understand how weird it is to loose a staple gun: I have a hand stapler that I got in a trade with some school friends back in like 1978. Really nice stapler. I think I traded a Mego super hero or something for it. Yeah, I traded a toy for a stapler.

I don't care for the new ones the same way, but I'm sure some people prefer them.

@PSS That is some heavy stapler memory. From your link:
The first time I saw a Swingline 615, was in 2004 during a premarital counselling session with the white-haired scandinavian Pastor at my grandmother's Lutheran Church. I commented on the stapler and my fiance (now my wife) said she had used them many times . .

Okay i tried but didn't find my stapler on google image search. It's about 8-10" long,4-5" high at the button. It must've had a plastic piece on the button when it was new,but when i pulled it out of somebody's trash it had an ancient band-aid on the button. It's a swingline. It misfires about 1/3 of the time but i shake it and the staples line up for a few more.I rarely use it.

hello faye and children, i'm up for the last hour of your show

Most of my office equipment has come to me for free, one way or another. I've had a 3-hole puncher for decades. I think i've never used it. I have an excellent "old-fashioned" crank-grind pencil sharpener.(like we used in grade school.) That was my brother's and he likely stole it off the wall from one of the schools.
I use it A LOT.

Saturday nights on Faye's astral plane. Just WOW! Thanks!
  11:07pm

ACTUALLY, you have an excellent point there. If WFMU would provide garlic, ginger, a bag of onions and a random bunch of fresh herbs, I might succumb to a pledge. Oh, the impending pledge! How it calls at me from beneath the floor boards!

coelacanth:

Yeh,Faye the soundtrack is Brilliant! (this track is PERFECT)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
pacific standard simon:

Wait, I've got it! WFMU could offer, as a Marathon premium, little tin plaques that say, "PROPERTY OF WFMU", which you could affix to the stolen office equipment in your cubbyhole or bed-sit room.
  11:09pm
JakeGould:

I think maybe WFMU should offer a special artisanal WFMU branded “stone” to pledgers. Perfect for making free form stone soup. Think about it.
  11:09pm
Golde:

Those crank-grind pencil sharpeners are the best. I have one in my apartment that has been in there since there since the 1900s, actually. It was screwed into the kitchen, out of all places!

P-90:

@ Tot 50: that thing is a lengendary thing, used, apprecieated and admired for decades by millions who recognize the ineffable thingness of a well-designed, durable, exquisitely functional thing. I'm not joking, if The Dude who made the dies for that thing is still around, you have my deep respect for being a part of the process that broght that kingly thing into being.

@ Stanly Kubrick's hard-on for office equipment and supplies: yes, That Dude was an organization freak who was fascinated by the challenge of organizing an office as excellently as it could possibly be organized. The key story about that was that he meticulously stored all his notes, bills, correspondence, and everything else in standardized cardboard storage boxes; after investigating every available storage box, he designed one himself that was more functional than any previously available box, all his stuff is still in those boxes and I believe you can still order the Kubrick-designed boxes from the dealer in England

Golde:

Yes, yes, throw in all of the buzzwords like "artisanal" in an attempt to lure new listeners!! That soup actually sounds like the one my grandfather ate when he was imprisoned in a Siberian Gulag for a decade where prison guards ate no better than prisoners -- in fact, they ate the same soup. Water and potato "soup". I would also be happy if the radio station would commit to offering me a glass of water if I should ever need it. I might make the pledge under those terms...
  11:19pm

It will out-live you if you paint over it with 20 coats of paint. I highly doubt anyone in the future will bother to attempt to strip it. That's what happened to mine!

Golde, I am actually not painting on a canvas. Instead I guess you could say I am creating a “sculpture” with this. It’s non-canvas clothe stretched over a birch panel. And I am going to display the pin collection—tons of vintage 1 inch buttons—I have had since the 1980s.

  11:50pm
Stanton:

@Golde hmmmmm very good point. I suppose being at a block happens when you try too hard to articulate or can't seem to find anything to articulate. . . spinning your wheels as it seems. Like I said earlier it helps if I look at what I make as "compost" for the better stuff to grow--- while not half assing (much) what I am doing in the moment. I like to think that chips and chops at the ol' block. . .

diggin' this btw Faye
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm

So, Faye? You want to know why I babble about goofy stuff while listening to your show? It's because it would be kinda boring if I just kept writing, "Ooh, cool track!" after EVERY SINGLE SONG.
